Whats the point in that !? Why can't we just sell our players and get a bit of money fo them, rather than just letting them go out on loan to our rivals?!

Bad times when swansea city are paying players more than us..

I blame Crouch... he gave Dyer that new contract... what do you mean he didn't... who did then...?

As long as this means we keep Saga and he is available to play then I don;t give a toss.

I think we drew ourselves into a bit of a corner with Dyer.

We never seemed all that keen to keep him, but at the same time we didn't want to lose him for nothing. So we offered him a contract in the hope that we'd get some tribunal cash when he went elsewhere. But he couldn't find another club so ended up signing for us, and we are now stuck with a player who probably doesn't want to be here and the feeling appears to be mutual.

I can see us letting him go for free in the summer, and this little gamble could have cost us several hundred thousand.

So that's why he didn't report back for training straight away....

Yep, and we were called stupid for pointing out that it seemed a little odd......

I have spent the last 10 minutes trying to see the logic of loaning out Dyer, and purchasing Ryan Smith....................no can't work that one out.God i was so glad to see Burley go, as he was causing me to doubt if i knew anything about the game........now this.

The club is beyond parody.

Why would any decent player/coach/manager want to come here or stay here? Please someone, why?

Unfortunately I have no idea.

I think 2009 will be worse than 2008 for us to be honest.

July 2008....

Nathan Dyer has revealed the club's new coaching set-up was the key factor in his decision to sign a new contract.

The England Under 19 international had been stalling on a new deal while he waited to assess the recent changes at the club.

But the pacy winger is delighted with what he has seen from Jan Poortvliet and his coaching team and he is hugely excited about the new campaign.

He said: "I never wanted to leave the club but I had to make sure it was right to stay.

"I am only 20 but already I have had a lot of managers and a lot of chairmen and I wanted to make sure the set-up was right.

"Rupert Lowe has come back as chairman and I like what he has had to say about the club and the way he wants to take it forward.

"The philosophy of exciting attacking football with young players will suit me and I am really looking forward to being involved.

"I needed to see what the new manager was all about and what style he wanted to play and I have been very impressed by what I have seen.

"It all looks very exciting. He wants to play with wingers and with young players and he wants to play fast, exciting and attacking football.

"That is ideal for me and the future is really bright so I am delighted to be part of it.

"I never said I did not want to stay here but with so many changes I had to be sure it was right and that is why it has taken a while to get it all sorted.

"But I am delighted it has all been done and now I can focus on preparing for the new season and trying to win back my place.

"That won't be easy because there is a lot of competition with Lee Holmes coming in and Bradley doing well on the right and other young players coming through too.

"But that can only be good for the club and I am very excited about the way things are shaping up."

Nathan Dyer has settled his uncertain future by signing a new contract with Saints.

The exciting winger has put pen to paper on a three-year deal keeping him at St Mary's until 2011.

The England Under 19 international had been training apart from the first-team squad while his contract situation was resolved.

But now he is back in the fold and setting his sights on regaining his first-team place in Jan Poortvliet's exciting set-up.

He said: "I am delighted to have got it all resolved and to have signed. I never wanted to leave the club, it was just a question of getting it all settled.

"Now I have to try and win back my place because Bradley Wright-Phillips has been playing well on the right and scoring goals and Lee Holmes looks a very good player.

"It will not be easy to force my way back in but I will be working hard in training and in games to try and force my way back in."

Poortvliet added: "I am delighted Nathan has signed because he is a very talented player who can take people on and make things happen.

"He likes to run with the ball and has great pace and he will be a great asset for us this season."

Plc chairman Rupert Lowe said: "I am very pleased Nathan has signed for another three years and that he clearly believes in what we are trying to achieve.

"He is quick, attack-minded and talented and he fits right in with the way we want to play fast, attacking football with young players coming through."

Indeed. It was "perfectly normal" to some people. What do they know? Pah.

we only needed to match his previous contract to ensure we got a tribunal fee. Therefore if we didn't want him we have done just that. I would imagine his first pro contract was not massive.

Even if it was only a couple of grand a week, that's probably 150k-200k per year once employment costs are taken into account.

I really hope we have a right winger ready to sign on loan, can't see it happening though.

We are in trouble if we're to rely on Smith all season.

in terms of numbers then we have BWP. Jesus what a poor squad we have to work with, JP has no chance.

League 1 here we come.

Well done Wilde and Lowe you ****s.

Making the 'huge' assumption that we are relegated - can a chairman, who has been so influential in the two relegations he has overseen, really keep his job?

Of course it's a bit too late in the day then. Still, "At least we won't do a Rotherham if we go down..."

Lowe has totally lost the plot.

He is loaning out a good financial asset and a much better winger than Ryan will ever be to a rival CCC club.

Bonkers.

Lowe is proactively seeking our relegation!

The *@**@**!

fair point, perhaps they should have cut their losses, but if he had rejoined Burnley for example and was tearing up the place we would have people on here moaning non stop. At present loaning him out is covering his wages, but with every new club the likelyhood that we get a fee reduces.

They are probably trying to think up ways of putting a positive spin on the deal.

Will be interesting to see how they re-word this quote from the summer:

Plc chairman Rupert Lowe said: "I am very pleased Nathan has signed for another three years and that he clearly believes in what we are trying to achieve.

"He is quick, attack-minded and talented and he fits right in with the way we want to play fast, attacking football with young players coming through."

To be fair here, where as it seems another **** up, i'm not sure what we could have done differently.

Maybe we shouldn't have offered a new contract but if i were a gambling man i'd have got him signed up on one so we could have got some sort of fee. As it is the gamble isn't coming off cos everyone's worked out he's sh!t, but, to be fair, if Swansea take him off us for £250k in the summer, it's a gamble that has not cost us anything. Of course his replacement could have been someone better that a 21yo Millwall reject, but see the thread discussing the quality of our transfer policy for more on that!

Wonderful. Why we would prefer the left footed Ryan Smith to the right footed Dyer on the right of our attack I will never know.

I'm going to enjoy the explanation for this one.

However it's reworded, I reckon it's a safe bet that there'll be no quotes from our esteemed chairman!

More players to follow this route...

This club has become a joke...

Incompetent decision making board.

A mushroom like, clueless joke of a coaching set up.

Players who do not have what it takes for this

league through no fault of their own.

Odds-on candidates for relegation.

Spilt fan base.

Dwindling attendance..

I fukking dispair, I really fukking dispair. Lowe you are a kunt.

I'm likely to be going to a fair few Swans matches before the end of the season. I'll let you all know how he gets on.

£1k a week bottler or £2k a week thief. The agony of choice.

Sorry, i want Lowe out as much as the next man, but don't see this as a bad thing.

Smith looks poor but no worse than Dyer. He really is rubbish.

Dyer going and freeing up a wage can only be good.

He hardly set the world alight at Sheff Utd. Christ he only got a couple of games for them in three months.

I used to be amazed how the OS was always last to report news, now I just laugh

Spilt fan base.

The fan base is split as far as many can't be arsed to attend games anymore, but we are united in hating Lowe and Wilde. Ignore the minority of weirdos that support Lowe - they are an internet phenomenon that shout loud but are an insignificant number.

WTF is going on at SFC?

Where is the logic of giving a guy a 3 year contract then sending him on loan?

Mind you we gave Wotton a 3 year contract as well!!!?????

Wotton's going. My source claims he slated McGoldrick in the tunnel in front of both teams before a game (game unclear) and that he is generally a bad influence on the team. Hence the no shows recently.

I don't even bother reading the OS anymore.

off to Brighton according to many on here a couple of weeks ago. Is that still the same?

I've no idea where he's off to, but the bottom line from my source was that he's going whether it's Brighton or the free transfer bin.

Why did we offer him a contract in the summer if we couldn't afford to pay him?

Dyer was shipped out because of poor attitude and disruptive influence. Jan doesn't want him around the club anymore. I don't imagine this is a financial decision, Saints just want him away from the club.

He was shipped out to Sheffield United after a particularly poor performance and, if rumours are correct, and incident on the coach returning from that game. Dyer is felt to be a bad influence on both BWP and McG and Jan seems to think it's better for the club if he's not in the dressing room.

The answer is: (b) preparing for L1

It looks like they will take relegation in order to secure the future of the club - how else can some of the decisions being made be explained? Staying up this year would be a bonus - and for all those like me who are pleased Saga is back, don't hold your breath - he'll be gone again pdq and we'll be stuck with the inconsistent 'forwards' we have now.

Remember those heady days when RL talked about taking the club to the next level? Perhaps it's a case of two steps backwards...?

Don't know whether anyone has noticed but Dyer is **** and has been for the last two years! he is also a highly disruptive influnce.

Ryan Smith however has looked keen, pacey and confident in his couple of appearances so far and was by far the best player down at Plymouth.

Can i ask if you watched Smith last sunday?

Or did you watch Dyer last season before he got injured?

That seems to contradict Jan's statement when Dyer signed a new contract.

Where is the proof of incidents at Sheff Utd or at Saints of his disruptive attitude?
