Visiting the Outback

Hello to our Aussies friends.

Heading to the land down under next year (Aprilish) and I plan to see three things - Sydney, the jungle (coupled w/ the GBR because they're usually near each other) and the Outback. Port Douglas is my planned stop for the jungle/GBR but I'm having difficulty trying to nail down the Outback experience.

Kimberely looks beautiful but that part of the country seems too far out, Uluru seems too much of a hassle to get to (and pricey) so I've narrowed it down to the Flinders Ranges. Adelaide seems easy to get to from Port Douglas or Sydney and I'd like to stay at a station and there are a few good options in the area.

Based on that, am I looking in the right place? The Flinders Ranges have some beautiful features so it seems like a win-win, Outback experience with views. I appreciate any advice. Cheers.
