Mouldy Coat Posted 21 June, 2015 Share Posted 21 June, 2015 Who remembers the day?....one game most have probably forgotten given the 0-0 score line and outcome of the replay at Carrow Road with Le-Tiss and Horne both getting sent off and then Saints nearly holding out for another penalty shoot out with 9 men. This after beating United away on Pens and then a heroic Barry Horne effort at the Dell v Bolton to take it into extra time sparking wild pitch invasions. The game v Norwich at home was scrappy but I remember Hurlock giving Robert Fleck a nice flying forearm in the face on the half way line and right in front of the ref and getting away with it. However, the question is....Franny Benali was sporting two black eyes before the start of that game at the dell, but does anyone know why?
Saint J 77 Posted 21 June, 2015 Share Posted 21 June, 2015 As you say it should have been a forgettable game really but I remember this game well. I remember Ruel Fox having a good game for Norwich. The reason I remember it so well I was stood next to some ****ed up guy next to me was shouting major racist abuse at him, shouting at our players to get him. I am pretty sure that guy would have been arrested today. I remember that replay too I was so gutted to miss out getting to the semi finals after the win at Old Trafford and scrapping past Bolton with that last grasp long shot from Barry Horne to get extra time. Just felt like it could be our year. To blow it against Norwich after all that was a major disappointment.
Stud mark of doom Posted 21 June, 2015 Share Posted 21 June, 2015 I was there. Can't remember anything much about the game but I expect I left early for a quick swim in the sea, like usual.

Mouldy Coat Posted 21 June, 2015 Author Share Posted 21 June, 2015 I fancied us to have turned Sunderland over in the Semi final (They were league below us) John Byrne scoring in every round up until the final to knock out Notwich in the Semi's
The9 Posted 21 June, 2015 Share Posted 21 June, 2015 Pretty sure it was one of my first Saints matches, having moved to University in October 1991. Was that the game where Robert Fleck was getting "you fat b'stard" chants and he pulled his shirt up to the East Stand bench seats near the halfway line, or was that a different match? SW5 SAINT Posted 22 June, 2015 Share Posted 22 June, 2015 I remember worrying after the semi final draw we might have to play poopey in the final that year!
Tom & Gerry Posted 22 June, 2015 Share Posted 22 June, 2015 Poopey so nearly beat Liverpool in the semi final. A Saints Poopey cup final will never ever again seem so possible.
Mouldy Coat Posted 22 June, 2015 Author Share Posted 22 June, 2015 Saints Poopey cup final that year would have been murder all the way up to Waterloo and beyond
