The Official Saints European Tour 2015 / 16 Thread - Died Peacefully 27/08/2015

It depends on location, west ham only found out last night as if both Malta clubs went through their game (1st leg next week) would be switched. Lucky for them Valletta went out but even still they couldn't book up.

Iceland is another problem country. Its due to number of uefa suitable stadiums to use. As we go through the rounds most clubs left will be able to use their own grounds.

Guess probability wise there should be quite a low chance of that, but always worth bearing in mind when looking to book up early.

I think you have missed some information from here, as I know for a fact that RANDERS(DEN) are playing Anders Svensson's ELFSBORG(SWE) in the 2nd round. An Anders return to St. Marys would be wonderful...

Yes we could ask him about coffee shops in West Quay, his specialist subject.

I've just updated the map show those teams eliminated in the 1st round. Will keep it updated and will add stuff when we know who we have.

Good effort, good to look at the possibilities on a map to get a scale of where we could be heading.

Nice to see a trip almost to Mongolia is still a possibility.

BTW, some excellent research and work Marsdinho, to be applauded by all forum users.

I seriously doubt we'd switch the home or away game (Saints have already confirmed a Thursday on the Newcastle moved fixture page) and we'd also only have from 23rd until 30th to arrange things anyway, unless we drew one of the few unseeded teams going directly to 3rd Qualifying Round. It MIGHT be possible if Saints contacted both possible opponents and confirmed preferred days and home/away order before their 2nd Qualifying Round games, but then we'd probably know about that before the 23rd as well.

The important bit is that they keep us as informed as possible, and they were absolutely crap at telling us what was going on for the Salzburg friendly tournament (I'm currently in Munich). I had to tweet them twice over a week to get them to confirm what Red Bull Salzburg were saying months ago, and they didn't put anything official out until the Thursday before the Saturday tournament. That's just not good enough when fans will be potentially spending hundreds of pounds to watch the matches.

On the bright side, not going to get to sit next to the opposing team's drummer and chanting brigade many times in my life, and our tickets were €16 not the ripoff €32 most Saints fans paid for their top tier perch.

I'm sure that's been the case in previous years too: it's most odd, as if they're embarassed to have fans there. I've only been to one foreign pre-season game when I was living nearby, and the best bet has always been to check the other clubs' websites.

I hope somebody from the club is reading this..

Decent on the pricing, would have preferred not to have to buy my ST seat at the same time for the friendly though as prob sat somewhere else with friends who aren't ST holders.
I think you can buy your Espanyol ticket after buying your Europa ticket, and pick anywhere (available) in the ground).

Surely a sellout for the qualifier?

Despite the cheap prices there will be a lot of tickets to shift for this game, as with all cup games there will be a number of season ticket holders who don't go plus it is very likely not many away fans will be in attendance so we'll probably have virtually the whole Northam stand to sell.

You would have thought a lot of people will take the opportunity to take kids along with it being the school holidays and cheap prices.

I reckon we'll have about 24k for Europa game, hospitality will be quite empty.

Tbh Im not overly sure we even need the Espanyol game.

You often talk rubbish, but I'm inclined to agree with you there. ;-)

A max of 14 Saints players can play in each of the European 3rd round qualifying games and I would hope we use our best possible team in those matches to avoid messing up.

Perhaps Koeman will use the Espanyol game for the many players we have that won't play in the Europa games.

Could have maybe matched West Ham's £10 then?

Although if you don't want to go a fiver probably doesn't persuade you.

I see no reason for us to drop prices at all, I reckon we'd get at least 25k at £30 irrespective of the opposition for a first European match in 12 years. About the only thing likely to dent the crowd would be getting thrashed in the first leg if we're home in the 2nd, and even then with the times we'd have shifted loads of tickets already.

As for Espanyol, I had no intention of going (ridiculous really when I've just spent about £600 going to Salzburg), but the "extra fiver" double purchase deal has swung it for me.

Also, West Ham tickets were £20 on the night (or would have been, had they not sold out beforehand).

I think you might be overestimating the appetite for Europa league football The9. I'd love to see us sell out but don't think we'll get that many due to

- we always struggle to sell tickets this time of year, even for attractive Premier League fixtures.

- Unglamorous opposition many fans won't have heard off (an attraction for me but not the masses)

- probably very few away fans attending so we'll have more tickets than normal to sell.

Champions League 2nd qualifying round starts tonight will be interesting to monitor progress in that with some teams due to potentially join us in the play off round

25k @ £30 against minnows? No chance.

Well I want to go to the Europa home games could be another 12 years before it happens again. I Would have thought the novelty value would make these games popular. If we were a regular Europa league team I could understand these early games being poorly attend but we're not so why wouldn't people want to go?

3 days until the draw?

Friday, though most likely we still won't know who we're playing til a week Thursday.

We will have a better idea who we're playing on Friday morning as they will put teams into 5 Pots and we will be guaranteed to draw one of the unseeded teams in our pot.

I'm guessing as there are 58 teams and UEFA have said 5 pots (with one having a different number of teams) that will mean 4 pots of 12 teams and 1 pot of 10. As there are even numbers of seeds and non seeds, on the morning of the draw we'll know which 6 (or if we're in the bigger group which 5) unseeded opponents we might face. Well, which 6 or 5 "either/ors". Then we have to wait a few hours for the actual draw.

Rest assured geek fans, I've taken the day off to follow this crap, so I'll be a-posting about it (once I've done my travel research and cued up some flight info just in case).

Undoubtedly, although the maths doesn't look quite right.

I'm going to book the days off work tomorrow. I am pretty keen to go to the away leg wherever it is as I can't make the next round if we get there (holidaying in Vegas).

Thoughts on me being able to secure a ticket on my season ticket? Didn't do any aways last year unfortunately and a few of the boys reckon I haven't got much of a chance of getting a ticket. Might I miss out or are they talking drunken balls? I'll probably travel anyway depending on where it is...

Which days are you booking off? As we don't know when the away leg will be yet.

Tomorrow? I booked Thursday and Friday for every possible date for 3QR, PO round, and all 6 Group games back in May, knowing that I'm getting at least 10 of them back, and that only 4 more days are needed before my leave year runs out in April for the knockout matches. :D

Oh, plus last Friday/Monday for Salzburg, and the Thursday/Friday of Rotterdam - which annoyingly coincides with the 2QR results and could have an impact on ability to book stuff...

... and the draw date, booked that too.

"Depending where it is", is basically your measure. It'll depend on how far it is, who we're playing, what transport is like and the size of their ground and our allocation. I think you may have to be quick if you have no aways from last season but there will probably be some going to general due to the need to confirm travel etc. and people faffing as they arrange with their mates.

Thanks for the replies The9. Very helpful. I will keep an eye on the draw and the games next week. There are some absolutely corking ties out there. I missed out on Bucharest away a few years ago so i'm not going to take any chances this time round. Think me and few mates are going to go in pretty big for a dirty weekend on the continent before flying off to Vegas a week later. Shaping up to be a solid couple of weeks.
