Pelle or Austin?

I maybe harsh with my view on our players but we claim to be pushing for further up the table . Tadic , for all his skill is hopeless in front of goal . Only luck has allowed him to score . In fact plenty of our goals this past season were due to luck .

Considering our lack of creativity and relatively few goal chances its frustrating when so few get put away .

If Austin isn't the answer then fair enough but we do need someone better than Pelle . He isn't likely to improve due to his age and building the team around Austin would most likely give better results .

 

I agree Juanmi is an odd signing . I can't fathom why we need him . It would be criminal to rely on Pelle again considering how he fell apart last season .

 

Our defense was reliable until Forster was injured . Surely a back up keeper , keeping Toby and a decent Striker have to be priority in pushing on .

Replacing Steven Davis would be great too but Reed can fit that role .

 

Juanmi just doesn't fit unless another striker comes in . Koemans fixation on Pelle hinders the team massively

 

this does seem like a bit of a sensationalizing.

 

tadic hasn't scored just by luck. you don't know if juanmi will fit in or not...because you literally have never seen him play for southampton and have no idea what koeman's plan is for next season or for additional transfers this summer. our defense was reliable after forster was injured, kelvin davis pulled off some heroic saves but waning motivation from clyne and injuries to alderwiereld/morgan didn't help us.

 

Davis had his best season ever last season, to talk of replacing him is a bit premature. Agreed reed is good, though.

 

there is a difference between fixation and giving someone confidence. Koeman didn't have a backup (maybe long could have been given 1-2 more games starting instead of him...arguably), but he put trust in him. Pelle clearly excels when he's confident and plays with more freedom (e.g. away at Stoke in the autumn when he just thumped a 25yd shot on a whim).

 

He really didn't 'fall apart'....noone was expecting him to set the league alight, he was average for years in holland and italy. 16 goals in all comps in a season isn't disastrous.

 

If anything can be held against our team, it probably isn't creative. We don't put them away, but in most games last season (agreed, not so much in Feb-April time) we still were trying clever balls and switching the ball to the other side.

You do talk a load of poo don't you?

 

Tadic isn't a goalscorer anyway, and he's a terrible penalty taker, but he's also scored goals which are not luck based.

 

I'm not sure why you think Pelle won't improve when he's only been playing in the Prem for one season and he's only 29. Also, scoring 5 goals in the last 10 games he played is hardly falling apart.

 

The defence was reliable until Schneiderlin and Wanyama weren't available at the same time, had nothing to do with Forster at all. A "back up" gk is a very bad idea, we already have about 3 of those. A first team goalkeeper who Forster can challenge is a must.

 

"Keeping" Toby is tricky, when he's not our player. A(nother) decent striker is an option, but we now have 3 or 4 support strikers who can play up top - but none of them are the same style as Pelle. Steven Davis has been mostly sound, other than not being able to finish and a couple of dodgy matches where he looked under par.

 

I have no idea why you think Juanmi doesn't fit when he plays the kind of supporting attacking role that totally suits a side pivotal on Pelle, when we've lost attacking midfielders Elia and Djuricic from the end of last season.

Austin is not the same type of forward as Pelle ..........way over-rated and over-priced......we don't need him.........an older Ryan Seager..........

 

We will not be signing him..........why would we waste the money............other fish to fry in MF, DEF and GK

I seriously consider doing a long, detailed post responding to the many errors in this post, but then I realized, I could do the same type of detailed analysis and make $95 doing my lawyer work. So ....
