cellone Posted 22 June, 2015 Share Posted 22 June, 2015 I'm an 'avid church goer'... and have known avout Big Vic's faith for a fair while...but I have no problem with Redslo's original comments.. let's not get to serious about this... P.S. Pretty sure Victor would describe himself as having a faith rather than being religious but lets' not start another debate.. as Far as I'm concerned he's a Saint... and that's why I'll be supporting him... (and nice to know he does stuff for charity as weel) Is the correct answer.
Patrick Bateman Posted 22 June, 2015 Share Posted 22 June, 2015 Since we haven't heard about his signing a new contract, I assume he is referring to the length of his original contract which is four year, two of which are gone. It is not clear to me how these two statements are connected, but perhaps you didn't mean that they were. Southampton St Mary's, yeah? Do I need to point this out; "The club has been nicknamed "The Saints" since its inception in 1885 due to its history as a church football team, founded as St Mary's Church of England Young Men's Association (or St Mary's Y.M.A) and has since generally played in red and white shirts." and "St Mary's Church one of two Christian Churches in the area the other being St Michael's 1000 years old Saxon church are members of the local parochial council which serves many Christians in the area as well as many West African people. The church has peels of bells which ring on a Monday night bell practice. Famed for the bells of St Mary's sang by Bing Crosby." FFS.

Matthew Le God Posted 22 June, 2015 Share Posted 22 June, 2015 Good man vic! For going to church, for involving himself in charity and for being a decent footballer for Saints! What if the church he goes to worships a different deity to the one you've chosen to believe in. Does that still make him a "good man"?
hypochondriac Posted 22 June, 2015 Share Posted 22 June, 2015 Whatever your views or beliefs, that's unnecessary. And hypo could have been referring to Vics charity support, or something not mentioned in his comment. It was a combination of things. Heard a few things in confidence from someone who is associated with him through his church attendance. Also know he does a load of stuff for lots of charities that is unpublicised. I hope the usual militant atheists can pipe down because as usual this isn't the time or the place.

hypochondriac Posted 22 June, 2015 Share Posted 22 June, 2015 When the pro religious stuff is left out of this football thread, I will leave my antireligious stuff out of it. As for keeping it to the lounge, I do not actually read the lounge because I am not here for religious or political discussions. I simply will not allow gratuitous pro religious comments to gone without a response in a thread like there where they do not belong. I did not bring up the subject first and it is not like I would have objected if someone had posted "God knows, Vic is a good player." Gratuitous pro religious comments? You ridiculous w*nker. St Chalet Posted 22 June, 2015 Share Posted 22 June, 2015 Please keep it civil if you must debate Vic's religion and whether it makes it makes him a top bloke. Hypo, for the avoidance of doubt that means you.

I made a throwaway comment that he goes to church a lot and is a great bloke and it gets immediately pounced upon by the militant atheists. Bunch of mentalists you must agree surely? hypochondriac Posted 22 June, 2015 Share Posted 22 June, 2015 I think you are being a bit sensitive and overreacted if I am honest. I called him a w*nker because he referred to my comment as gratuitously pro religion which it obviously wasn't. Not even a little bit. It's pretty sad that a thread about what a decent bloke Vic is has descended into this. Would be nice if the last page and a bit was deleted. hypochondriac Posted 22 June, 2015 Share Posted 22 June, 2015 What is it with these geeks hating God.? I really don't care what anyone's religious beliefs are to be honest. It's entirely a personal matter. My own experience however is that those who attend church regularly that I know of are also normally top blokes. Might be a coincidence but I think having a religion can definitely be a positive thing for some people. As I said though it's a personal choice and I certainly wouldn't judge someone for being an atheist.

They are the ones who can't accept people having different views but naturally assume they are the live and let live types. But they tend to be the zealots. ericb Posted 22 June, 2015 Share Posted 22 June, 2015 What is it with these geeks hating God.? I'm not a geek and I'm totally indifferent to God to the point Id say I'm an atheist. Mind you what i personally dislike is anyone trying to raise their beliefs against another as some sort of moral correctness. What history has taught us is most beliefs, religious or political only serve the interests of those that benefit from them and punish or hurt the rest. That aside I hope big vic is staying, he's not as good as Morgan but without both we'll be far more exposed at the back and probably drop a place or two. How does it make someone a good person to goto church? If a God did exist I'd rather not worship one who requires constant worship, a God like that sounds like living in a North Korean dictatorship. If Wanyama does a lot of charity work that is commendable. But if charity work is motivated by sucking up to a man in the clouds so you get a place in heaven, then that rather taints it. Charity work for secular reasons has more honesty and integrity to it, than feeling obliged to do it to please a man in the clouds. Matthew Le God Posted 22 June, 2015 Share Posted 22 June, 2015 'Man in the clouds' bless. It is what a lot of religions effectively believed. Is that really any more silly than the Judeo-Christian deity? Is that what you believe? Of course not.
