"Head coach Jan Poortvliet is pleased with the level of competition for places in his squad ahead of the expiry date of a number of loan players at the club.

"We will see on the 1st January what the situation is with the loan deals," he said.

Reading defender Alex Pearce has already extended his stay at St. Mary's by a further month, but there may be further movement in and out with Chelsea player Jack Cork's future high on the Dutchman's list of priorities.

"As far as I know, we want to keep Jack and Jack wants to stay here," he stated. "He feels comfortable and likes it here and we hope that he stays".

Dear Jan,

Probably best to keep shtum the next time the OS come knocking for an interview.

This is a massive blow we are so short at centre back and he will be helping 1 of our relegation rivals gutted I know the lad is to good for us long term but Watford FFS how sad is it if he and Chelsea see them as a better option than us.

It is time for change !

Comes to something when we can not even keep our loan players from going elsewhere.

Some will say it is all about the Watford coach, maybe? But if that is the case can JP & MW tap up some of the huge talent they coached in Holland to come here please.

Some of you need to realise that as far as Chelsea and Jack Cork are concerned this is all about Jack's development for the purpose of getting him ready for the Chelsea first team. Now he may well not make it at Chelsea but they have to give him the best chance possible. Whilst his loan spell with us has been beneficial to Jack and Chelsea I guess they see the link up with their ex reserve boss as being a key factor. There is also the fact they may be looking at the situation of unrest at our club, the fact we are struggling at home and deeply embroiled in a relegation battle with a very good chance of going down.

To them Watford may seem a more stable bet for Jacks development and who could blame Chelsea and Jack Cork for coming to that decision.

It is a gutter but that is what you get when one of your best and most influential players this season is a short term loan deal. The real question that should be being asked is what is happening with the fully contracted 'stars' of the future of the glittering Saints academy? Must do better would be my assessment!

I would like to thank Chelsea for the loan and Jack for his efforts. Jack will have a good career in the game.

Bugger.

I was really hoping this story wasn't going to be true. I guess Rodgers Chelsea connections did it. We really are screwed now. I don't suppose we could offer Jan's job to the Man U reserve team boss?

This is quite right and whilst we had no direct control over what happened to him it is a pathetic endictment that Watford are considered the better option.

Maybe our set-up is just a tad too Revolutionary ™.

Very sensible and reasonable argument. I think you're probably spot on there.

A big loss, but good luck to him. would have loved us to sign him up if that were at all possible, but it's not to be

It is no endictment at all.

The bloke who coached him during his early career is now the Watford manager.

I would have gone there too. He probably sees that as a more likely future home and here he was always just a visitor.

What is an endictment is that our best outfield player is a kid on loan!!!!!

And despite the fact it's on Chelsea's site, despite the fact that the Echo state clearly that JP was told TWO DAYS AGO, there is still nothing on Pravda (The OS for anybody under 25 :-) ). Brilliant, just brilliant. We are indeed mushrooms - kept in the dark and fed BS.

Nothing on the Watford site either. Could it be that Saints and Watford don't have the same money to spend on their media relations as Chelsea do?

I am concerned by this news, I really am.

What is wrong with the club? It doesn't sound just financial...

He is not our player and we do not call the shots on his future.

Indeed. We were softened yesterday with the two new signings, now comes the ****. Sorry fellas but Ryan Smith signing has not made me think "Oh well. we've lost Jack Cork but we have Ryan Smith, it's not so bad"

By the way, good luck Ryan i hope you proove me wrong.

We all know who calls the shots at SFC though. Lowelife probably decided in his infinite wisdom to make changes.

Fair one - he's gone. He belongs to a well run club who now want him back - probably to develop him further and possibly to remove him from the moral-sapping poor confidence losing club that is run by Lowe and JP.

The key question is...

'Should we be relying on loanee kids as our best players to save us?'

The answer is NO. We should be relying on experience and muscle - this is a battle for survival. NOT for FA Cup draws on Sunday. WE ARE IN A BATTLE FOR SURVIVAL.

If Lowe doesnt wake up soon we're fekked. We have 30 odd days to get experience in at CB and striking positions. AND a new MANAGER.

WE MUST WAKE LOWE UP ON SUNDAY.

If we do we may survive. If not we're going down as the bottom team by a country mile.

And how do you cme to that decision Stanley? If Chelsea want him back or to move him on to Watford that is hardly down to Lowe is it?

That is the problem with players you don't own. They can be moved on.

Maybe, but Portaloo doesn't choose the players, **** me he doesn't even watch them before they come to us so who decides?

You may fall for the Lowe spin on everything, but i wouldn't trust a word said on the OS if this is the excuse they wheel out.

Lowe is de facto Director of Football, so not JVPs fault. Probably out shooting pheasants (the unemployed?) when the deal was there to be done. The deal should have been tied up weeks ago, as it is Lowe looks to have taken Cork for granted and left it too late and the probably tried to nickle and dime him. Meanwhile Brendon Rodgers is in Corks ear. Major **** up.....but good luck to the lad he was our most consistent outfield player and tried his heart out.

There you have it.

Lowe's approval rating hits new low in the wider football fraternity.

He is a pariah.

Woe is us.

Can you back any of this up with facts?..esp Lowe taking Cork for granted? Cork has known and worked with Rodgers for years, so it's natural that he wanted to hook up with him again. JP said the club (SFC) wanted to keep him but it was Cork's decision. Can't see it actually has much to do about anything/anyone else really.

It doesn't reflect well on our set up when clubs like Watford poach our best loan player.

I wish people could be a bit more sensible.

The kid's former manager is now managing Watford. He probably has a future there - he doesn't with us. He knows the manager and that the manager knows Chelsea inside out. For HIS career it's a better move.

Our coach said it was Cork's choice and yet people still blame Lowe and our set-up??

Lowe is to blame for the fact that our best outfield player is a kid from Chelsea - that is fact. That is fair enough.

Posted

maybe Jack had the choice and he decided to go and play for Rodgers whom he knows well from his Chelsea Reserve days. Just a thought...........

+ isn't one of the other Chelsea boys there as well????

Posted

Frankly the writing was on the wall - JP saying "he wants to stay and we want him" rather than "he's staying" meant he was going. Lowe takes the blame for not doing enough to convince Chelsea his future was better secured here. For goodness sake, what can Watford offer that we can't? I tell you what - a winning mentality - something we've lost while Lowe and JP tinker with outdated ideas.

On the contrary, I would like to say that Chelsea can **** right off and I hope Abramovich goes to jail as soon as possible.

It might be that we were just unlucky and that he wanted to meet up with his ex coach, or maybe he hated it here and couldn't get out quick enough. We will probably never know why because we are always fed the same spin.

All we know is that after spending half a season here he would rather play for Watford than Saints.

RL mentioned at the AGM that Saga returning would put us under pressure and keeping hold of Cork might be a struggle

If that's true, I would rather have Saga for the remainder of the season than Cork

unfortunately we are screwed with or with out Cork, his leavng is just another symptom of what Lowe is doing to our once proud club. Think about it, we wll be in the 1st division next season. Unless Lowe can attract a manager like say Pearson with somethng about them there is a good chance we will stay in that league for a few years. If that happens if and when we come back up we wll be stripped of all assetts and at best will be a champonship team. I know its doom and gloom but with or without Cork we are F..UCK..ED

when i spoke to JP a few weeks ago his words were 'we have an option to keep cork on until the end of the season'

so what has happened since then???

either the lad didnt want to stay, which would go against what he said the other day,he or chelsea had a better offer or we didnt want to keep him.

either way the whole thing stinks, imo he was player of the season so far and now he is going to be playing to keep another rival in the championship.

On current season's form you might be on your own with regard to that opinion.

Chelsea defender Jack Cork, whose loan spell with Southampton expired on December 31st, has joined Watford on loan until the end of the season.

Saints were keen to extend Cork's loan, following the 19-year old's valuable contribution to the first half of the campaign at St. Mary's, but Cork's desire to work again with Watford boss Brendan Rodgers appears to have swung his decision.

Prior to his appointment as Hornets boss at the end of November, Rodgers was in charge of the Reserves at Chelsea, and played a key part in Cork's development as he rose through the Youth team ranks at Stamford Bridge.

Since becoming manager at Vicarage Road he has already acquired the services of another Chelsea youngster, Liam Bridcutt, and now adds the England Under-21 international to his squad ahead of their weekend FA Cup tie against another of Cork's former loan sides S****horpe United.

Chelsea have now confirmed the terms of the loan and it has now been announced by both Clubs.

IMO it boils down to Lowe deciding he's surplus to requirements because Chelsea don't want to sell him ever so he doesn't fit in with Lowes "buy cheap and sell on" master plan.

Lowe is desperate to protect his shares so IMO is gambling on us staying up with **** players that he see's as potential assets to strip.

However, we need goals more than anything else and having Saga return might give us a chance

Given a choice between Cork or Saga, I would plump for Saga

I wonder where this fits in with Lowe's 'master plan'.

The man is an idiot, Wilde is an idiot, and all their apologists are idiots.

The silence from the Saints Trust is a disgrace as well. They are idiots.

We got to the transfer window 2nd from bottom. By the end of the month our team will probably be worse. It doesn't take a genius to work out where we're going.

Rupert, do me a favour, f*ck off, and take jellyfish Wilde with you.

Nobody can argue this is any great surprise except JP himself maybe and that just about sums up the whole situation. The downward spiral continues apace ...
