They say we're looking likely to sign him for seven million - his release clause. Very highly-rated in Spain, and has other suitors from abroad and in England - notably Newcastle.

He's a forward who plays across the front line and turned 22 just last month.

From that article, they list his traits as being fast and having a high intensity/work-rate.

We've been linked with so many players already, its hard to get excited by any of these stories.

Not sure where a player like that would fit in to our first choice XI if everyone was fit, but would be an obvious good addition to the squad.

Looks like a "No.10" to me who can also play out wide.

I always think of a "No.10" as someone who's the main creator for a side, threading through little balls to other attackers etc (know its more than just that). Don't think this bloke has got one assist at all last season.

Is every player that we are being linked with also being linked with Newcastle and West Ham (and vice versa)?

Makes sense. Our finances are comparable. The level we can reasonably be expected to play at (in the medium term) is comparable. And our need to add players for next season is comparable.

Football Manager rates him as a CA 129 PA 161 which amounts to not quite being good enough for the premier league right now but with the potential to be great. The consider him to be fast and agile, but not extraordinarily so, with very good technique. My scouting screen excluded him because his concentration skill was only 11 and I had to draw a line somewhere and I picked 12. FM does not consider him to have good defensive skills at all, but that is normal for a striker in FM.

No idea what Football Manager does or how relevant it is to the real world. Is it relevant?

But question is, do these other clubs have the much vaunted Black Box?

Football Manager's database is licensed to many profession football clubs via the Prozone Football Scouting software package.

Sounds like he is Ramirez Mk2 based on this.

Do the English really understand the Number 10 role ? Think Zidane,Platini,Baggio,Cantona, Hoddle at a push. Players of exceptional talent and vision who dictate the way games are played, it's not speedy wide men who like to drift inside, there you're thinking 9 and a half..

Are you not English?

Sometimes....dual national me. Certainly don't live in England, haven't done for over 30 years.

Yes I know you live in France.

Not sure that comprehension of the no.10 role is defined by nationality though. Perhaps experience.

Let's just say that you see it far more often outside of UK football, it is not an English notion and UK football does not produce them..

True that not many English teams use or fill the role well. Probably because midfielders aren't given as much time on the ball as their European counterparts.

With the squad number system is there such a thing as a no 10 role any more?

Who? Obscure to say the least, not many would know how that song goes. The Northam would struggle.

I'd imagine almost anyone who likes alternative music would know that song. Was also used by Baz Luhrmann for the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack back in the 90s. However, it was meant in jest, I'm aware we'll be stuck with generic pap for any new player that comes in.

It's not obscure enough that this 42 year old doesn't know the words to it. Though it does help if you know it's "You and Me Song"...

Still, it's no "The animals went in two by two".

But do you know the tune? Difficult to get a song going unless the tune is known. Anyway its only meant in jest. Need to stick to mainstream if the Northam.are going to latxh on to anything.
