Summer Transfer Window 2015

You've mentioned the key one... lack of loyalty bonus. It increases the amount of money the selling club get and so a transfer offer becomes more attractive to them compared to giving away some of it as a loyalty bonus.

For example which is more attractive to Everton to convince them to sell...?

a) Stones makes no transfer request, Chelsea bid £30m and Everton have to give Stone £2m in loyalty bonuses leaving them with £28m.

b) Stones makes a transfer request, Chelsea bid £30m, Everton keep £30m.

(for sake of this example I'm ignoring money owed to Barnsley)

Plus it acts as official confirmation the player is unhappy and wants to leave.

so, do Chelsea then pay Stones the £2m he missed out on?

I find it rather depressing that Stones has handed in a transfer request and I feel sorry for Everton fans. I just think he would be better off staying at Everton for at least another season where he would play every game, will he get that at Chelsea? But this is how the game is nowadays unfortunately.

SKY SOURCES: JOHN STONES HANDS IN TRANSFER REQUEST

How can this be? Everton never sell any of their best players, all their players love it there and would never leave for a bigger club, they are the club we wish we were. I'm sure Batman will be on to tell us how this is impossible, the story simply is not true.

If a player is transferred without putting in a transfer request then technically the selling club have to pay up the balance of the contract (his entire salary due inc any loyalty bonuses).

Now of course this figure will be negotiated to a settlement that both the player and the selling club are happy with, but in this instance with Stones having 4 years left on his contract (I think), then it is a substantial figure that Everton will not have to net off the money received from Chelsea.

Will be interesting to see if Everton & West Brom stand firm. I'd wager West Brom will let him go, but Everton will stand firm and hold him to his contract??????!!

Maybe John Terry is finally being phased out?

Do you not think Everton would have received bids from the likes of Baines, Coleman and Barkley over the past couple of seasons?

Players I will be happy to see taken on loan on deadline day

Loftus cheek

Joel Campbell

Perieira

Lingard

Townsend

Why would their clubs agree or the players want to come? They'd be unlikely to get game time ahead of players we already have in those positions both in the XI and bench. Its a centre back we need.

@JackPittBrooke: Inter and Spurs in talks over Erik Lamela transfer. Spurs want permanent deal, £20m fee. Full story on @IndyFootball soon.

I saw that. I reckon it'll end up being a loan with a view to a perm. though.

He's a weird one, he has the same sort of reactions with Spurs fans as Gaston does with us. Always hoping he'll come good...but never quite achiving anything. To get £20m back for him would be a job well done though.

Assuming they can get a replacement in time, Everton would be mental to refuse 40 million for Stones wouldn't they?

I understand why they are reticent. Without their first choice left back till Jan and with only one other centre back in Jagielka.

Then suddenly having to panic and pay through the nose on the eve of the transfer deadline for new ones.

Then integrate them in the starting xi immediately.

Plus they've got stones on a contract till 2019. Can't see his value suddenly disappearing unless he gets a serious injury.

Spurs backing Pochettino with some serious cash by the looks of it.

Really? You sure about that?

So far this window.

Bought £29.4m

Sold £45.9m

http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/transfers/verein/148/saison_id/2015

If Poch spends a net £50m then they will be backing him with some serious cash. They're going to likely be getting rid of others like Lennon as well.

John stones is no where near worth £40m

you could get two top international CBs from Europe for that

disgusting price

Except it isn't. It fulfills a homegrown slot that Chelsea needs and he is English so will always command a large premium. Much like sterling earlier in the window, this is how much young English players cost.

People seem not to look back at Rio Ferdinand's transfer to Man Utd in 2002 for £30m when talking about Stones and £40m. A lot has changed in the game in the past 13 years but £30m > £40m isn't a huge leap.

bit different really

ferdinand had already made a move to a huge club (with a huge fee) that was expected to challenge at the top end of the league. He did that and was excellent

stones has had about half a good season. Already being talked up as some amazing player

It's all relative. When Rio Ferdinand transferred to Man Utd in 2002 he had over 180 appearances in the Premier League under his belt, 17 appearances in Europe, and 20 appearances for England (and had established himself as first choice in his position as well).

If John Stones gets transferred his CV reads 47 appearances in the Premier League, 3 in Europe, and 4 for England (where he is not first choice).

So relative to the fee I think it is a huge jump.

the Neymar to united for £140m is absolute garbage. Why does shyte like that get reported?

It's all posturing by clubs and agents alike. Neymar is after a new contract at Barcelona so the easiest way for him to publicly grease the wheels is to be conveniently linked with a move elsewhere. The same happened with Ramos.

And in terms of clubs briefing the media, Levy has gone into overdrive the past few weeks. Papers reporting Spurs targets unhappy at their parent clubs all over the place.

They've got to have something to talk about on deadline day.

its just daft. What is there to talk about

United are not going to nearly double the world record fee for a player.

Barcelona are not going to sell one of their world stars whilst under a transfer (in) embargo

just ridiculous

We'll see. You would have thought that they would/should but Levy is Levy. He did say that there were to be no more £20m signings, but £10m +/- a few £m, but Berahino seems to have scotched that.

Simon Jones reporting - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3211562/Tottenham-make-18m-bid-Bayer-Leverkusen-forward-Heung-Min-Son-man-nicknamed-Sonaldo-Germany.html - so who knows if it is PR bull or truth? Spurs really are very stupid. I think everyone knows that they have 1 striker in Harry Kane (and one that they refuse to use in Adebayor) so if they come in for a striker this late in the day, they are going to be right royally fleeced. And really as the article says, he is primarily a winger who can play secondary striker.

Still don't know what the huge problem with Austin is.

BERAHINO UNFOLLOWS WEST BROM

Read into this what you will... in the last 10 minutes or so Saido Berahino has unfollowed his own club West Brom on Twitter.

^ That is next level reporting (by Sky) & trolling (by Berahino)

LOl well I guess west brom have no choice but to let him leave now.

TBH I don't think West brom are adverse to letting Berahino go just not for the money spurs were offering.

NORWICH IN FOR KOULIBALY

Norwich are locked in negotiations with Napoli for their centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, Sky sources understand.

Koulibaly impressed for Napoli last season, featuring 37 times in all competitions for the Partenopei last term. The Canaries are understood to have made an initial £8.6m approach to the Serie A side for the 24-year-old Frenchman, who moved to Naples from Belgian side Genk a year ago.

But the versatile defender was left on the bench in Napoli's season-opening 2-1 defeat at Sassuolo at the weekend.
