CANARIES BID FOR AFOBE

Norwich have made a substantial offer for Wolves striker Benik Afobe, according to Sky sources.

The 22-year-old has a contract with the Championship club until the summer of 2018.

I reckon we're probably talking £10m + easily. He only signed for them 6 months ago, has 5 odd years remaining, he's English and young.

Looking at what's going on this year with Dwight Gayle going for £8m, Andre Gray for £9m....we got a good deal for Long!

Any idea what Wolves paid for him?

must have a new owner I suppose, Russian, Thai, Indonesian, Middle Eastern...take your pick, some place or other where

folding is moved about in wheelbarrows and suitcases and no questions are asked..

Or a local based billionaire called Steve Lansdown, who is worth about $2b according to Forbes...

The meltdown on Redcafe is quite amusing, seeing as they've lost out to Chelsea on the signing of Pedro.

from the BBC live feed

Jade Babb: #mufc #ridiculous won't pay £30mil for Pedro, here comes 4th place again.

Only football fans can casually moan about not spending 30 million, like it's mere chicken feed, of some one else's money on a player.

thoughts on Leicester signing Inler - pretty good signing IMO. Very strong and powerful, decent on the ball whenever i've seen him for Napoli or Swiss. Might have been good alongside Vic, albeit that position doesnt seem a priority with Romeu arriving.

Don't see all that much Italian football, but have seen him pick up a few cards in the few games i have watched, could be an issue.

Good player but he's 31 now. Not a Saints style signing.

is he actually any good/worth that sort of wedge?

I don't watch Spanish league games and I've only ever seen him come on as a sub for Barca in the CL games, which is not surprising considering the talent they have as first choice. When he comes on he runs around a lot and quite quickly too, scoring the odd goal, but usually when opponents have been totally crushed by Messi et al. He reminds me more of Navas than a Sanchez in terms of quality - am I mistaken? Feels a little desperate from Chelsea and United and not a signing that is going to bring them closer to CL success.

I'd of thought LVG might be tempted to try and sign Ibrahimavic. Van Gaal has aid he is only there short term and Zlatan is very much a short term option (due to his age) that would lead the line well, allowing Rooney to flutter around in the number ten position.

I see Derby are trying to sign one of my favourite Saints players of all time Antonio. Can't see that ever happening.

Probably makes it even less likely we will get Koulibaly, since this helps the Napoli financial situation.

I think he's a perfect fit for English football, proper midfield powerhouse. They've got some good creative midfielders as well, he'll facilitate them doing their jobs. Really good signing for Leicester I think - impressed by them so far this season in recruitment and performances.

SONG'S WEST HAM DEAL 'IN PLACE'

West Ham co-owner David Sullivan has confirmed that the club have agreed a deal to sign Alex Song from Barcelona.

"We have a deal in place with Alex Song subject to a medical," Sullivan told KUMB Podcast. "If the medical is OK, we'll take him.

"He's injured at the moment, which is something you've got to weight up. But we've got until September 1 to make a decision."

No idea why we're not after a wide player, would have taken Elia for sure.

We have Mane (who we seem to be stuck with playing him centrally), Tadic (who has very poor games), Long (who isn't particularly very good and a striker), and JRod (who is a striker) Juanmi (who is a striker), JWP & Davis (who are central players)

Just wondered if we may still be interested in Matty Phillips! Couple of goals and an assist for Austin's goal!! Not sure defences would fancy playing against him and Mane pace wise!

Agree that if we were to go for Austin (although I don't think we will) then taking Phillips would be a wise move. We do need a good right-footed midfielder.

Couldn't agree more, although Elia isn't the answer IMO. Redmond has started the season well, is young and would add to our HG contingency. Redmond, Van Dijk and another DM and I'd be happy with out summer dealings.

Tadic is played on the wrong side, doesn't or can't shoot and has faded since the bright start last season. Long isn't a wide man and is very average full stop in my opinion. JRod has yet to show that he can make it back to where he was. Juanmi can't get in the side when we are desperate for an attacking midfielder to link it all together. JWP and Davis are neat and tidy but don't run a game from the `in-the-hole' position they sometimes fill. Neither can play out wide.

Elia started brightly, looks to have pace and a trick, but by and large did very little just justify a full transfer. Do you think he would have improved given a long run in the side. He's not a nipper.

I STILL don't understand that signing, for that fee, and I never will.

He is/was worth 6-8m tops.

So Gray going from Brentford at 9m its good value for Long - why do fans get so het up over how much it costs it isn't your money!

He got us our only point so far this season! Leicester last season won us the game, Villa was terrific....plus a number of other games he made

good contributions to.

Thing is our style of play doesn't use wingers does it. Our width comes from the full-backs overlapping the players on the sides. Shaw, Clyne, Bertrand and Chambers were all able to do this extremely well for us since rejoining the Prem.

Think the last Winger we actually had would be Puncheon? While I can see how having wingers would help us adapt our tactics if required I just don't see it in our plans.

There are not a huge amount of wingers around these days, not in old fashioned get up and down in a 4-4-2 style anyway, they are more versatile forwards, for example Pedro is that sort of player. I'd say jay Rod and mane are also very much those sort of players.

No, it's not my money....

The point is, we overpaid for him; it seemed an unusual signing, a panic buy. Hull signed him for something like £7m 6 months before we gave them £12m!

I agree, however it is good to have options, and Tadic has been playing wide so far this season. JRod looks way off the pace to me too, wihch I would expect. He's not the answer at the moment.

So we sold Shaw £30m, Chambers 16m, Lallana 24m, Lovren 20m so us spending 4m over the top in your opinion is a drop in the ocean for a player who is a great squad player who offers options.

EVERTON IN FOR YARMOLENKO?

Everton have opened talks with Dynamo Kiev over a potential deal for Andriy Yarmolenko, according to the Liverpool Echo.

It is claimed Everton are willing to meet the winger’s €20m release clause and are hoping to wrap up a deal before the September 1 deadline.

The newly promoted club have been tracking the player for several weeks but Palace are only keen to negotiate if the deal on the table is a permanent one.
