Hi all.

I'm planning to take in the Feyenoord friendly in July but I've never been.

Any tips would be gratefully received ie best place for a few beers after the game, hotels etc

Many thanks

All I can tell ou is that if you're looking at booking hotels you need to do it quickly because of the festival occuring in the city at the time of our game with them. Had to go for one on the high side myself, then again I was a bit lazy and didn't search much..

Tips from the last time I went when Saints played there.....locals seemed (mostly) friendly, we swapped shirts with a couple. If you wander into a pub at 2am on your way back to the hotel, whilst still wearing the Feyenoord shirt you obtained earlier in the evening, and it happens to be right next the the Sparta Rotterdam stadium with a few Sparta fans still in it, you will survive, so long as they recognise you as English straight away although for a few seconds, there will be silence and tumbleweed......Don't wear the Feyenoord shirt in Amsterdam. I must say, the shirt then was made by Kappa and is the most comfortable replica shirt I own and I wear it a lot (and have done to St Marys in the past)

It's worth looking at hotels elsewhere in Holland as well though. The Randstad is similar to the London metro area in size, so it's only a short train ride from the likes of Amsterdam, de Haag, Delft, Utrecht, etc to Rotterdam.

I think if you google Rotterdam it will give you all the info you need.

Already done that but very difficult to separate the good and bad places as every hotel says they are the best hotel in the best area.

I was looking for info from somebody who knows the city well.

Very helpful Big **** btw

As a feyenoord fan and living in the Netherlands, I can recommend using airbnb. Its much cheaper, and most of the times cleaner aswell. Everything between Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Utrecht and the hague isn't more than an hour by train. If you do get some feyenoord gear leave it in the hotel when you're going Into Amsterdam.

I live in utrecht so if anyone is staying there and wants the see the city or have a beer feel free to ask. I hope I can get a day of work to see the match

I just had a quick look on airbnb and our hotel in Amsterdam is cheaper than pretty much anything on there for 2 miles around Centraal Station. Still an option worth considering for future trips though, hadn't thought to look before.

As I'm going to Salzburg and Feyenoord I think I'm giving Groningen a miss - the flight to Bremen looked reasonable but transport links to Groningen seemed to take far too long given the proximity?

2.5hrs on the train from Bremen. Hardly a long time.

Problems with hotel is you have to eat out all the time and the prices for food in the centre of Amsterdam are ridiculous (same as being in the middle of any major city)-if you have a flat and eat there for breakfast and lunch it works out better for me.

Most apartments come with a bike (or you can rent one for £5 a day) and as we all know the place is as flat as a pancake so getting anywhere on a bike is a doodle

I think the options I saw were something like 4 hours, which is why I was asking why it seemed so long.

Then again, more faffing this end to fly to Bremen in the first place, Rotterdam and Salzburg are a lot easier.

Yeah, true about food, but then I quite enjoy NOT cooking when away, and breakfast is usually provided. As I said, it's a useful option to consider. Last time I went to Amsterdam I lived on beer and waffles anyway. :)

Much interest in the Salzburg tournament from users on here?

I'm going and so is the wife. Though she's not on here, thank fook. :D

Up to Gatwick the night before, fly to Munich in the morning of the tournament, hour or so on the train to Salzburg, tournament (45 mins v Valencia and then 45 mins v Werder or RB Salzburg, night in Salzburg, train back to Munich on the Sunday afternoon, spend Monday in Munich and home that night).

Flights and hotel booked, just need the tickets to come out now! Flying into Amsterdam on the morning of the 23rd, day there, train to Rotterdam for the match, post match drinks and sleep. Flights back late on the 24th

I cannot imagine tickets for the game will be a problem.

I would be very surprised if anywhere near 100 decided to go to this game as we have a Europa cup game a week or two later.

I have never bought tickets for pre seasons early only on the day at the ground.

The Feyenoord pre season game in 2001 was the only time I've known the club to sell tickets in advance for a foreign pre season game, there's plenty to go round. Last time the travel club ran a trip but nothing mentioned so far, being a Thursday night instead of a weekend I agree we'll have 100-200 there with people waiting for Europa league the following week.

Anyone heard any news on who the home friendly will be against on August 2nd?

Thought about waiting for the Europe League match, but if you look at the pool of potential opponents it's very likely to be against a team you've never heard of and somewhere that is going to be an absolute pain to get to.

At this moment there is no ticket info available.

For the feyenoord fans this game will be the "opening game" of the season and also the "say goodby to Koeman en Pelle" game.

Season tickets holders will have free entrance so there will be at least about 35.000 spectators for this game. there is a possibility that the game will be sold out.

The "main" street in Rotterdam is the "Coolsingel" with several bars in the neighbourhood.

a cheap hotel in the city center(about 60 eur double room) is the easyHotel Rotterdam City Centre.

5 min walk to the bar district and 30 minutes walk tot the stadium(or 10 min with public transport.
