angelman Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 He's going to have to compete with Long and Pelle for the mirror to sort the quiff out.
Baird of the land Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 I was hoping we might get Trippier or Jenkinson. Got to trust that he'll adapt well to english game and prove a shrewd acquisition.
SuperSAINT Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Hopefully another excellent addition. 2 young internationals with potential for less than £10m is great business.
Saint-Armstrong Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 A second shameless plug for a piece we did on Cédric with a Portuguese journalist... http://stmarysmusings.sbnation.com/2015/6/17/8795251/transfer-lowdown-cedric-soares
Bad Wolf Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 It's pronounced "Suarez" annoyingly. That's gonna take some getting used to. Has anyone on here seen this guy play? Last season preferably and can confirm his quality?
BARCELONASAINT Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 cannot complain with the business done by Saints so far.The outlay is minimal going by todays inflated transfer fees and potentially we have 2 very good players. I thought it had been confirmed that we were not taking up the option on ELIA......I havent seen anything regarding Djuricic though??? Watched him last night for the under 21's and thought he had a very good game....he is another talented young player that RK might think is worth taking a punt on again this season?
Chez Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 two signings already. WTF are people going to moan about on here now?
iansums Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 two signings already. WTF are people going to moan about on here now? Each other?
eddie Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 A second shameless plug for a piece we did on Cédric with a Portuguese journalist... http://stmarysmusings.sbnation.com/2015/6/17/8795251/transfer-lowdown-cedric-soares many thanks
SaintLiam Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 How's his surname pronounced then? Swah-rez? might nick the dippers' song
fez Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Great, he's already confident enough to be interviewed in English. Nice smile too.
Give it to Ron Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 two signings already. WTF are people going to moan about on here now? That they are not English
Saint_clark Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 How's his surname pronounced then? Swah-rez? might nick the dippers' song The one we use for Rodriguez? Please don't, it's bad enough we use the same tune for Yoshida and Mane.
Foxstone Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Another young and technically gifted international signed for a good price. Well done all involved and welcome to Saints Cedric
SaintLiam Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 The one we use for Rodriguez? Please don't, it's bad enough we use the same tune for Yoshida and Mane. I'll get my coat before I say this, BUT... Cedric Soares he wears the white and red I just can't get enough I just can't get enough When he gets a tackle And when he intercepts I just can't get enough I just can't get enough He crosses in and Northam goes wild And I just can't seem to get enough Soares dudududududududududududu... god that is bad, but obviously right-backs aren't prolific goalscorers
Batman Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 reckon he will have 'Cedric' on the back of his shirt
SaintLiam Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 reckon he will have 'Cedric' on the back of his shirt yeah he's most commonly known as Cedric, same as Juanmi.
buctootim Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 yeah he's most commonly known as Cedric, same as Juanmi. Are you sure? Isnt Juanmi called erm 'Juanmi'?
SaintLiam Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Are you sure? Isnt Juanmi called erm 'Juanmi'? The principality of it I meant his real name is "Juan Miguel Jiménez López" course that's not very convenient. Not sure why Cedric has it for his name too, but oh well.
Matthew Le God Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 It's pronounced "Suarez" annoyingly. That's gonna take some getting used to. Thats not how I've heard Portuguese commentators pronounce it.
The9 Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 (edited) How's his surname pronounced then? Swah-rez? might nick the dippers' song He's Cédric Ricardo Alves Soares, guessing we'll call him Cédric. And that's probably pronounced "Say-drick". Edited 18 June, 2015 by The9 Added accents, before MLG got the chance to be a bellend about it.
david in sweden Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 But I still remember Reed saying we need 2 RB's, so who knows. But this guy can also play right wing, so could add versatility in that sense. ......so maybe he's only the first one ? Early days yet.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Thats not how I've heard Portuguese commentators pronounce it. I don't know the correct way to pronounce it, but the official Saints video when he signed had the narrator say 'Suarez'.
S-Clarke Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 ......so maybe he's only the first one ? Early days yet. As I see it, we're just putting ourselves into a very strong position. I don't see this guy as Clyne's replacement as media outlets are suggesting, this guy offers us cover of very good quality and if Clyne does happen to go, we have an international RB already here. But then I'd imagine we'd go out and get another RB to create the cover again.
buctootim Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 (edited) http://www.pronouncenames.com/pronounce/soares (second one down, Brazil option) Edited 18 June, 2015 by buctootim
del boy Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 The principality of it I meant his real name is "Juan Miguel Jiménez López" course that's not very convenient. Not sure why Cedric has it for his name too, but oh well. Sure it won't be "J Lo" ?

Block34 Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 That's for Spanish - got a feeling it might end in the sound 'esh'
The9 Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Thats not how I've heard Portuguese commentators pronounce it. That's how they pronounce it here, when he's getting himself sent off in the Portuguese Cup Final two and a half weeks ago... http://footyroom.com/sporting-lisbon-2-2-sporting-de-braga-2015-05/ Full on "Cedereek Suarayez"
Matthew Le God Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Maybe I was listening to the Portuguese version of Dave Merrington.
The9 Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Maybe I was listening to the Portuguese version of Dave Merrington. "What you don't want to do right now is base your pronunciations on a bloke with a funny accent..." Actually as that link's from BeIN the bloke sounds decidedly arabic, surprised you didn't pick up on that.
doddisalegend Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 two signings already. WTF are people going to moan about on here now? Just wait till someone gets sold.....
bender Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Anyone else think the best thing about this is getting one over Stoke ?
scotty Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Anyone else think the best thing about this is getting one over Stoke ? Is that really the limit of our ambitions?
The9 Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Anyone else think the best thing about this is getting one over Stoke ? Why would we care about Stoke?
VectisSaint Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Anyone else think the best thing about this is getting one over Stoke ? Nope, didn't even enter my head. Who gives a flying **** about Stoke?
eelpie Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 two signings already. WTF are people going to moan about on here now? WTF happened to our sell first, buy later policy?
JRM Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 A second shameless plug for a piece we did on Cédric with a Portuguese journalist... http://stmarysmusings.sbnation.com/2015/6/17/8795251/transfer-lowdown-cedric-soares Strengths - excellent crosser of the ball weaknesses - gets caught out of position Where have I heard that before? DANNY FOX Hope this lad is a bit better than him, Fonte will be important in bringing him into the team, just hope Toby Alderweireld signs as well.
CB Fry Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Anyone else think the best thing about this is getting one over Stoke ? That'll be no then.
Whitey Grandad Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Why would we care about Stoke? Even Stoke fans don't care about Stoke.
Saint_clark Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Anyone else think the best thing about this is getting one over Stoke ? Stop posting and sign the contract Sven.
scotty Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Even Stoke fans don't care about Stoke. I lived there for three years and can confirm this.
Mr X Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 two signings already. WTF are people going to moan about on here now? That we still have £30 Million pounds worth (Not now though) of absolute crap at the club in the form of Gaston & Osvaldo???
*Halo* Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 That's how they pronounce it here, when he's getting himself sent off in the Portuguese Cup Final two and a half weeks ago... Full on "Cedereek Suarayez" To hopefully clear up the pronounciation - I texted my Portuguese mate, who had this to say for himself: It's So-are-ess mate. Three syllables, so are ess - but without pauses. So almost sounds like Suarez, but not quite. And First name is like Sayd'rique.
View From The Top Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 I lived there for three years and can confirm this. I work there and most of them want out of Stoke!
Dalek2003 Posted 18 June, 2015 Posted 18 June, 2015 Things are being done nice and early this year, just as it should be. Obviously, the Club have realised the importance, at long last, of getting players in early and settling in over the summer. I have long advocated this.
