Your favourite goal at St Mary's and League One to European Football!

I'm currently putting together a timeline of important articles, photos and (mainly) videos from the day of Markus Liebherr's arrival up until our European qualification. Seems like a good way to keep all our favourite moments in one public place. I've only recently begun, and as such, have stumbled across Lambert's equaliser against Pom*ey in 2010. I was lucky enough to be there that day, and it's definitely my favourite goal at St Mary's. Despite not winning a match that we dominated, it was a statement to the footballing world that Southampton Football Club was on the way back. Just five years on to the day, since

, Southampton sat in the Premier League's top four, while Portsmouth were mid-table in the fourth division. WTFILN?

Following all of that:

As the title suggests, what's your favourite goal scored at St Marys and why?

Also, as i've just started, and because the idea is to make it public, I thought it would be best to seek everyone's input: Which moments played an important role in our journey from League One -10 to European football?

So far I have:

- Swiss seals Southampton takeover (article)

- Southampton sign Rickie Lambert (article)

Rickie's goal (as linked above)

Next up is the JPT footage (open to suggestions) and then the rest..

Tons of highlights on the official youtube channel

Cheers. That's the main list I've been working off already :)

I was more hoping to get feedback of everyone's favourite moment/s from our recent era, rather than the footage. Although if anyone has a particular video in mind as well, let me know.

In that case - Leeds home in the Championship on opening day - i was just hoping we'd "hold our own" but our performance set the tone for the rest of the season. Then Leeds away ... backs to the wall smash and grab 1-0 for a vital 3 points.

In terms of moments & goals from promotions, these stand out for me..

Guly 1-0 vs Bristol Rovers was HUGE

Jonathan Forte vs MK Dons

Barnard at Leyton Orient

Kelvin penalty save home vs Brighton, amazing celebrations.

Brighton away, obviously, Fonte's goal.

Leeds home on the opening day, set the tone for the season.

The 5-2 at Ipswich was when I realised how good we were.

Kelvin, Leeds away.

Palace away felt like a big game, great goal from Rickie.

For me, the goal which gave me the biggest emotional release was when Rickie scored against the Skates in the cup game when we were in L1. The other goal was probably Jos making it 3-0 against Coventry, the rest of the game became a massive party.

Biggest moments were the new contracts for Morgan and Lallana, and the signing of Rickie Lambert. Huge, significant. Not sure where we would be if we didn't have that sort of goal scorer in our setup.

Aside from the goal for Rickie v the Skates in the cup, two stick in my mind.

1) Rickie Lambert v Huddersfield.

A thumping strike on the turn for a man who was out of form at the time. He utterly smashed the ball in instinctively against one of the strongest sides in the league to seal a 4-1 home victory when we were 1-0 down.

2) Chaplow v Peterborough

Again, a great win against one of the strongest sides in League 1. A devastating break crossed into the box with Chappy finishing instinctively while at full stride, he ended up in the back of the net with the ball. Wonderful. A beautiful goal from one of my favourite players at the time.

Quite surprised his goal v Man Utd hasn't yet been mentioned. That is an honourable mention.

The two above goals showed that we had finally asserted ourself as onee of the best sides in League 1, we had recovered from the blip at the end of Pardew's time and Nigel Adkins had us finally capable of going up. It is so easy in hindsight to forget just how sh*te our start to that season was.

(Supersonic you idiot i'm looking at you. We were in the bottom three at the end of September, 500 minutes without a goal and you have the temerity to say Adkins failed in getting us promoted in merely second place!? F**k off)

Lambert's free-kick to make it 3-1 away at Bournemouth in L1 was a pretty big deal at the time, we went 1-0 down and after that match we had moved ahead of them for the first time into 4th and were still only 2 points behind 2nd placed Huddersfield. If we'd lost we'd have been 6th, 5 points behind Huddersfield and 6 behind Bournemouth with 12 matches left. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/9418926.stm

And obviously Fonte's at Brighton to win it in injury time after they pulled the ballboys with 15 minutes remaining and timewasted like hell.

The equaliser against Blackpool in the Championship Rickie Lambert in injury time too. That took the roof off!

We avoided defeat, but remained undefeated at home in a run that extended to a calendar year between defeats to Rochdale in League One and Bristol City in the Championship.

Completely agree! Hammond's strike said that we're not just here to make up the numbers and Super Kelv's performance screamed that we were going back-to-back!

That photo of EVERY Saints player inside the 6-yard box summed up that season and the ML era perfectly.

First in my mind is that game against Leeds where they threw everything at us stands out in my mind as the day I knew we were going up. I still get nervous watching it expecting Leeds to score even though I've known the result for a few years!

Some of Barnard's goals in L1 were important, especially the one after Jonno Quick's quick brace. At 0-2 down that day I was expecting a slump at the end of the season off the back of that game at the Valley (which still annoys me to this day, to think about it!) but winning that put us back on a great run at the end of the year.

In the Championship, I felt the home wins over Leeds, West Ham and Middlesbrough were important, three of the "bigger" teams in the league so to beat them was important as it showed we deserved to be up there. Rickie's hat-trick and last minute winner vs Milwall was another one of them moments where you could start dreaming of being a league higher next season.

In terms of my favourite goal at St. Marys (since we've been back in the Prem), Clyne's vs. Villa, Morgan's Vs. Liverpool, Lambert's free kick vs Chelsea is up there, Lallana vs Hull and Lambert vs United. This year it would be Pellé's bicycle kick vs QPR, his second goal vs Sunderland, Long vs Leicester and Mané's third against Villa. Not many! haha

Only half serious here, but how far away would 'Our Journey' be from becoming an actual documentary/movie? Considering the incredible popularity of the Premier League (especially in the US) it's not the worst idea..Perhaps as a sequel to the NBCSports 'The Southampton Way' documentary? If made properly with some funky editing and dramatic music it would attract a ridiculously large audience and do wonders for us globally. Who wants to give Hollywood or NBC the call?

Didn't that win over Boro include Connolly's goal from 20 or 30-something consecutive passes? Possibly involving every Saints outfield player?

And come to think of it, Schneiderlin's against Newcastle this season was some huge number of consecutive passes.

Both goals highlight the way we have absolutely dominated some matches over the last few years.

Off the top of my head, Schneiderlin's goal was after 41 passes including every Saints player! We really are quite good when we want to be! haha
