From 2016/17 parachute payments will be over 3 years not the current 4, if relegated in your 1st season after promotion you only get 2 years of payments.

Saints related?

:?

Lower numbers of years for parachute payments mean that if a relegated team are promoted again quickly then Saints get a % of the money. In the case of this season, Norwich being promoted after only one year in the Championship means that Saints get a share of the money Norwich would have had if they stayed in the Championship. With the parachute years reducing it increases the chance of Saints getting more money.

Will Wigan still get their 3rd and 4th year payments even though they've been relegated again?

Yes, just like the Skates did - but they'll get reduced amounts in L1 (or L2, heh) compared to the value of the payments if they'd stayed in the Championship because some of the "goodwill" money is based on divisional payments.

I'm relieved, when I read the title of this thread I feared that somehow the rules were changing yet again to make the Skates get more payments.

Interesting thanks. They should still have a big economic advantage on other teams in that league though, I'd imagine.
