igsey Posted 30 May, 2015 Posted 30 May, 2015 Any players we would be happy to take from the three relegated clubs? Arguably there's less quality there than in the teams relegated last season, but are there any that could fit into our team? QPR: Charlie Austin. Wouldn't take any of the others, though I know a lot of people have touted Calamity Green. Personally I wouldn't want him here, but wouldn't be particularly upset if he joined as back-up. BURNLEY: Trippier and Ings would fit in with us, and we've been linked to both. Maaaybe Heaton too, depending on our 'keeper situation by the start of the season, especially now we have Europa to think about. HULL: Elmohamady has always looked too good for Hull, he'll go to a Premier League club this summer, I think he would do well here. Wouldn't look at anybody else. A special mention to Newcastle, who left it until the last day - I'd happily take Cisse, Sissoko, Janmaat and Krul. They are all far too good to be fighting relegation on the last day of the season.
Dark Munster Posted 30 May, 2015 Posted 30 May, 2015 Charlie Austin certainly tops the list. Shame Newcastle didn't go down, although even if they had, getting any of those 4 would be very unlikely.
SNSUN Posted 30 May, 2015 Posted 30 May, 2015 The left back at Hull, Robertson, wasn't bad this season, but we don't need a left back, so it's moot. There's not many I'd have from Villa either. Delph perhaps and Benteke. Guzan as a fill in for Forster while he's out perhaps. I wonder if we'll "pad out the squad" now we're in Europa with a few more players than we otherwise would have on the books, in spite of the powers that be insisting youth will be given a chance next season. Will be an exciting summer.
mrfahaji Posted 30 May, 2015 Posted 30 May, 2015 A few people have mentioned Fer, not sure about him but surprised Matt Phillips name hasn't cropped up (at least I don't think so). Difficult to know whether he'd be an upgrade, but he certainly created a few and got on the scoresheet a bit in the second half of the season. QPR might want a chunk of money for him though... Agree with the rest of the list.
CWD Posted 30 May, 2015 Posted 30 May, 2015 Tim Krul has had a dreadful season, not for me. Matt Phillips would be decent though. I imagine people will disagree but I thing Michael Dawson is still a good player and CDAJFU
SarniaSaint Posted 31 May, 2015 Posted 31 May, 2015 QPR- Phillips, McCarthy, Austin. Burnley- Trippier[/quote Depends on the injury to FF..........if long term injury then yes...........the others don't think so...
Lorne Malvo Posted 31 May, 2015 Posted 31 May, 2015 Would take a punt on Caulker if the price was right. Showed promise at Spurs but two seasons at QPR and Cardiff probably were bad moves on his part. Playing next to Fonte might bring him back to the promise he showed at Spurs.
positivepete Posted 31 May, 2015 Posted 31 May, 2015 Heston maybe, Fir possibly. Doubt we will sign more than one player from the Premier League.
syd_barrett_saint Posted 31 May, 2015 Posted 31 May, 2015 We should try to sign Austen and Elmohadhammy too ;-)

Playing next to Fonte might bring him back to the promise he showed at Spurs. have to disagree. QPR's defence has been absolutely shocking all season, and so was Cardiff's the season before. Caulker has been a large part of the comedy, positionally poor, lacking concentration and has gained a lot of bad habits.
Badger Posted 31 May, 2015 Posted 31 May, 2015 Austin & Trippier are the stand out options from the list. Phillips to a lesser degree, although like Fer, Caulker & Green is now associated with two relegations (three in Green's case I think).

Webby Posted 31 May, 2015 Posted 31 May, 2015 (edited) Didn't Phillips make the most assists this season? Second only to Messi since 1 jan 2015 apparently Edited 31 May, 2015 by Webby
percy windham Posted 31 May, 2015 Posted 31 May, 2015 Isn't there some history with Phillips, Austin and us? Did they both turn us down previously in the Cortese era? I'd take both for what it's worth, and I doubt them having previously turned us down would have any bearing on a potential future move aynway.
The Cat Posted 31 May, 2015 Posted 31 May, 2015 Caulker is too slow. He'd be an almighty step down in quality from Toby if we don't keep him.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 31 May, 2015 Posted 31 May, 2015 Austin and possibly Trippier. Theres a reason why the teams that went down associated themselves with the players that failed them - think about it...its not just about their individual ability.

I'd take both for what it's worth, and I doubt them having previously turned us down would have any bearing on a potential future move aynway. We were linked with Phillips whilst he was at Wycombe during Pardew's time with us, but nothing materialised. There was a story at one point that we'd made a derisory bid and Wycombe rejected this before selling him to Blackpool. Austin - again linked in L1 as we were pushing for promotion under Adkins. My recollection was that Swindon refused to sell to us as they saw us as a promotion rival, selling him to Burnley instead, NC bemoaning the fact we'd offered more money than others and he'd gone elsewhere. Others on here have said the bid was accepted and Austin turned us down to go to Burnley.
doddisalegend Posted 31 May, 2015 Posted 31 May, 2015 Might not be relegated but some of Leicester's players might be available on a free very soon http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/other/leicester-city-footballers-filmed-in-racist-orgy/ar-BBkrZak?ocid=U218DHP

Could possibly be as good as Pulis Jr.

SuperSAINT Posted 31 May, 2015 Posted 31 May, 2015 Sounds like it's Liverpool for Ings: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/danny-ings-burnley-striker-to-begin-talks-with-liverpool-despite-tottenham-interest-10287719.html

Rather have Austin, just. Having a Saints fan on the playing staff does appeal though, and he's younger too. Is he big enough for Liverpool though? Can't be worse than Ballotelli though. I wonder if Burnley will try and get Rickie in exchange...
Twiggy Posted 1 June, 2015 Posted 1 June, 2015 I'd take Heaton from Burnley in all honesty. I don't really remember too many howlers and with our defence in front of him he could do well.

Trippier and Ing's yes, Austin yes, ElMohammady Yes - Otherwise leave alone I think...

He has his own disability charity in the Burnley area, and I think I am correct in saying his partner is a Liverpudlian too... I would think he will end up with Brenda at Liverpool.... And as a result send his career backwards..
Giordano Posted 1 June, 2015 Posted 1 June, 2015 Bilel Mohsni, ex Rangers player. Tunisian hardman CB. After seeing what he did to that Rangers forward i reckon he would be great for Saints. Big Radhi would sort him out. And a match up between the two would be a sellout. Think Moshni would win as he is currently fitter and obviously a bit younger but if Radhi could get him on the floor and use his weight then that could swing it. I'm not talking footy btw, cage fighting is for that guy i think. That SO reminded me of my Sunday league playing days. Back then the kind of push in the back that Mohsni got from Lee Erwin would instantly get EXACTLY the sort of attack that Mohsni put in on him. then the add-ons from everyone else. And to think that's Scottish Premier League play-off match. Sunday league football discipline. Still, got to hand it to Moshni- he does not get pushed around by anyone. Right foot left hand, nice combo. Might not have much of a football career ahead of him, but no-one pushes him around. Maybe he could fight Osvaldo in pre-season to see if he up to coming back or not? :-)
