Top 10 dirtest players in this season PL

Hmmm, a lot of DMs and CMs in that list, it's where you need to be hard and uncompromising to be a good player.

No room for wimps and fair play statistics lovers in DM I'm afraid.

Except for Pelle. All though to be fair I don't think he, or Lambert before him, gets the rub of the green from most refs who seem to assume a big centre forward must be in the wrong when two players come together.

Saints have two players in the list as well as the dubious honour of having the dirtest player in the PL....... take a bow Victor Wanyama

That list in itself is retarded. The nature of what they are measuring means that the dirtiest players i.e those with straight reds get 3 match ban so it takes fair bit out of their playing time (sissosko 6 games without looking at yellows), where as vic made more fouls as he nearly squeaked by the entire season without getting banned so played more games hence racked up more points.

A better way would be to work out points to game ratios, calling MLG

I think the dirtiest players are the most malicious or the ones who make career threatening tackles. I don't put Wanyama in that category.

Also no account is made for the ratio of bookings to tackles. surely also a red card should be heavily weighted as some yellows are pretty innocuous and are tactical rather than nasty.

Also if you're built like a brick outhouse then skinny little runts just bounce off you making it look worse.

He missed two games purely through getting booked so much, so not really sure your point about him getting to play more than others.

Pelle would win The "most fouled but least free kicks awarded to him" award by a country mile! And as said, very much in the same manner as SRL would have won it last season!!

I think there should be a space for Fellini and his flaying elbows that have decked several players this season with little response from the officials.

Read the title and instantly thought Wanyama. My other pick though was Mané, as he falls over quite a bit. Hey ho.

I was expecting Morgan to be in there, considering how many bookings he has had and how many times refs have given fouls against him for simply doing his job of putting in tackles.

I honestly think that Big Vic is a victim of his size and general appearance, he just seems to stand out and refs never seem to miss it when he transgresses. The fact that people bounce off him is hardly his fault !

If he was more like Dennis Wise he could get away with murder !

Fellaini, without doubt. Every game he pretty much gets away with assault... didn't at Hull though.

I don't wish ill on any player but for him I always make an exception. A snide, sneaky bully... someone should properly stick one on him.

Falling over isn't 'dirty' though...Mane just makes the most of tackles. Could he stay on his feet? Probably. Is it embarrassing? for sure.

to his credit, he's won a lot of free kicks by doing it.

I remember watching ghana uganda and people were rolling around all over the place. Maybe its more common in african countries and its just accepted

Add Shawcross to that list. Every time I see Stoke I'm amazed at how many off-the ball hits they manage to make during the course of every challenge, which go unpunished. Shawcross (and Adam) usually get a forearm to the head in on every header and two of them for a challenge from behind on the touchline.

I think there was a "joke" there about landing in mud being dirty, which doesn't work as pitches aren't muddy any more.

darn. there for the taking. I was too slow.

I miss those days of getting covered in mud when sliding, rather than getting plastic burns from artificial turf

Wonder how many fouls against Pelle went unrecorded.I saw them in every game he played this season. Most of the time it was shirt pulling and wrestling against him.

I remember Chris Smalling at OT was ruthlessly tugging at his shirt, he gets no protection from refs because he's bigger and somehow shouldn't be going down based on that factor

Smalling probably wanted to take his shirt off. Then again, we probably all do.

....if it's possible to defend him, we should add that the man is a real mountain of muscle and going up against him must be a real challenge for weaklings who fall easily....

if we could put him in a time machine, a centre back pairing of him with John McGrath would have been a real sight to see.......;)

Instantly discredited the moment I found out Fellaini wasn't No.1 :p

exactly this!

I know this has been done on stats, but if you were going to do a player-of-the-year type vote, the Afroman would win hands down.

I agree the stats are fundamentally flawed. The dirtiest player is the one that commits the most fouls/collects the most bookings per minute, or strictly speaking least minutes per foul/booking as even Cattermole can't manage more than 1 foul every 60 seconds!
