dronskisaint Posted 25 September, 2015 Share Posted 25 September, 2015 The simple fact is in the three years he's been here he has proved that despite his talent he simply isn't suited to the premier league & he never will be! nearly every football commentator agrees, and so do fans of other clubs, just ask hull fans what they think of him Ah...so putting it in bold makes it all the more plausible then He wears a Saints shirt, he has quality - as long as these criteria (actually only the first really) are there he will get my complete support..look up supporter in the dictionary?! Bobbyboy Posted 25 September, 2015 Share Posted 25 September, 2015 I'm feeling very 'meh' about Gaston, don't really mind if he gets another chance or not. Thing is, we're not really playing well so far in the league this year, and often in the games we've had one or two players who are just passengers. If RK wants to give Gaston another go, why not? He's on the books, if he's doing ok in training then the worst that happens is that he's this week's passenger instead of JWP or Tadic or someone. I don't think we are doing so darn well we risk blowing a great thing by playing him now. But having seen him so many times just fail, I don't care either if he doesn't play for us again. Just saying it's not going to do too much harm to give him a try every so often and see what injury he gets. Worst that happens is he's anonymous and maybe gets taken off because of an ear strain or something. We've had several players like that this year. Benny F Posted 25 September, 2015 Share Posted 25 September, 2015 Ron said hes training hard with a good attitude (yes i know, contract ends round the corner and he has realised he needs to perform) and if Ron thinks he can get us assists and create more (face it, we havent created in the prem yet realyl ),,,,, that deserves a last chance. Maybe his ego has been taken down a peg or two. Chuck him in. See what he can do. If still ****, hook him back out. hes got assists in him. alpine_saint Posted 25 September, 2015 Share Posted 25 September, 2015 His contract is coming to an end No-one is the slightest bit interested in taking him on; we completely failed to loan him out. He is not suited to the Premier League, but hes got comfy with Premier League wages. I for will be extremely suspicious if he suddenly starts deliverying what he has spectacularly failed to do in previous seasons. Will feel like a Saganowski-type con all over again. I dont think anyone wants him to fail, but some of us are more fed up of the club being taken for a ride than others.
Avenue Saint Posted 25 September, 2015 Share Posted 25 September, 2015 Said it earlier, forget defending, use him for his strengths. Sit wanyama and Clasie/Romeu behind him, and mane and jrod in front. Let him pick out some passes for those two to run on to and we could have a real recipe for success! Some may disagree but I would have Ramirez over Davis and 'mr invisible' One Cross Prowse all day long!

Tbf he wasn't at the club last season, apart from the first few games where he came on and looked decent. Poch didn't fancy him and he didn't fit the Poch way of playing. I'm interested to see how he can get on with Keomans style, as he was decent under Adkins
sadoldgit Posted 26 September, 2015 Share Posted 26 September, 2015 Split views on Ramirez then but I think it is harsh to call him a malingerer. Some players get injured more than others and some take longer to adapt than others, especially if the system they are asked to play in doesn't suit their strengths. We know that he can deliver the goods if used in the right way. As I said before, he is still only 24 and has plenty of football ahead of him. I hope that in whatever time he has left with us that he shows us what he can really do on a regular basis.

My take on it - gaston has the quality to deliver but when he plays in the premier he just doesn't get the time in the ball. His injuries haven't helped - so for me let him have another go at it then he can do one - I love flare players and ones that can pick a pass but tbh I've just run out of patience. david in sweden Posted 27 September, 2015 Share Posted 27 September, 2015 He probably won't even make the bench today. IF......RK is going to give him a second chance / last chance .....then he should do it by playing him in away games. No-one expects MoM awards away from home. Somehow people seem more impressed by players who DAJFU in away games , but IMO.....he's hardly likely to get a good reception in a game at SMS atm. Ewell Posted 27 September, 2015 Share Posted 27 September, 2015 In fairness we will only know if he has truly impressed him if Gaston is put on the bench for a league match anytime soon. He probably won't even make the bench today. Exactly my point, Ronald obviously isn't that impressed and it looks like Gaston will be part of the squad for cup games and he is only likely to get a chance in the Premier League if we get a couple of injuries. david in sweden Posted 22 October, 2015 Share Posted 22 October, 2015 (edited) OK, any chance we can recoup that £12M? probably not, but we would be quit of the £65 K /week it is rumoured we pay him...... (that's over £3 million / per year) NOTE: Gaston can likely be considered a greater financial liability to the club than was Osvaldo. Although his fee was larger than Ramirez' , Dani Osvaldo was at the club for a shorter time, whereas Ramirez was signed in summer 2012. Oh I'd agree with that ......we've made some great signings, the problem is that most of those who failed were very costly ones..... if we start with Delgado ....then some of 'arry's loan deals were almost more than a transfer fee...all the way upto...Gaston and Osvaldo who've cost us a packet..... it maybe alright for a large club with unlimited resources to pay £10/£20 million for a player who's a flop ...but deals like that cut a big hole in the budget of many clubs. angelman Posted 23 October, 2015 Share Posted 23 October, 2015 Still hoping we get something back! Make it £6M price tag in Jan as he walks for free in May. It is easy to forget that in 2012/13 he played in 26 league games and 18 in 2013/14, so he was use and not a complete waste of money. Then I am sure Hull paid us something. This year seems to be the only waste as he is not playing and he is not attracted a loan fee.
david in sweden Posted 23 October, 2015 Share Posted 23 October, 2015 " one swallow doesn't make a summer " (so goes the old proverb) and one good season doesn't make an experienced player out of a kid with a bit of promise. Gaston was spotted by " someone " at SMS and looked full of potential, but as we've seen before, life in the Prem. isn't all glamour and success. A goodly-sized contract - certainly, but a lot of time on the bench for a young starlet who isn't quite good enough to displace the regular man. The ironic thing is that Gaston may move on and do really well - somewhere else . We've all seen that expecting instant success at a new club doesn't always work. It might be that given time, Gaston will find that good form that he left behind in Italy, when he moved to Saints. Chelsea must be kicking themselves for letting De Bruyne go so quickly when he hadn't matured as fast as they had hoped. On the other hand, Sterling is starting to look a better player at Citeh than he ever did at Liverpool..but he's still young. I just hope that Clasie is given time to develop and fit into our side before the " doom merchants " criticise his every poor pass and miscued shot. Bringing in a new player isn't like changing a wheel on the car....he's part of " a new engine " ......and we've changed ours TWICE over in the last 2 years. Like him or not, bad luck .or a bad buy...Gaston will be on his way ...richer in his bank account...and "120 games fitter" than he might have been - had he played them.
