I look forward to having the recently voted Ugliest Premier League player 2014-15 putting me off my morning beverage...

Ooh a Pompey-supporting friend of mine gave me a Pompey mug as a present as a joke. I'm not quite sure what to do with it. Throwing it away seems too easy...

Just relegate it to the back of a cupboard. Nobody will notice it or mention it for a generation.

Assuming you are talking about this:

http://www.caughtoffside.com/2015/02/14/video-top-10-hottest-and-ugliest-players-in-the-premier-league-arsenals-olivier-giroud-collects-award/

I find it interesting that six of the ten ugliest players look black while Nacer Chadli is the closest thing to a non-white in the good looking list. I think something other than an objective evaluation of looks is going on here. And don't think of this as an American criticizing England. The article makes it clear that the voters were 250 American women.

On the other hand, I know you are not talking about this list:

http://fcnaija.com/news/1230/meet-the-epls-10-most-ugly-players

because Mane is not on it. But still five of the top ten are black so again I doubt it is purely an unbiased analysis of looks. On the other hand, the author of the article is "Olakunle Brown" and it is posted on "Nigeria's Number One Football Website." My attempts to learn more about him reveal that he has written an article about Samuel Eto'o being racially discriminated against in a jewelry store become some Nigerians had used fake credit cards there a few weeks earlier. And I cannot figure out whether Brown picked his own ugly list or whether it came from somewhere else.

In any case, I have seen Mane's face on TV many times and I never thought he was ugly. And I am suspicious when black players dominate the ugly lists (and are missing from the good looking lists) even though they are a distinct minority in the premier league. And those 250 American women really annoy me.

I always serve supporters of other clubs who are guests at our house their tea from my Saints mugs. I know its childish but I enjoying seeing the looks on their faces when they have to put their lips on Rickie Lambert or the club crest.

Are you implying that having 5/10 Black players on the list is racist? Even though the other half are white?

Well, when you have a large % of white players, and a small % of black players, but pick the same number of each in an "ugly top 10" then yes, you are potential heading towards racist territory. You big racist.

Mane is a sweetheart. This survey is gross.

You should keep a small amount of urine handy as an addition to their beverage, so the taste matches the humiliation implied by use of the drinking vessel. Trick missed I think.

I wouldn't say that black players are in a minority in the BPL. For instance, we fielded 5 (Bertrand, Clyne, Wanyama, Mane, Elia) vs Villa and they fielded 7 (Benteke, N'Zogbia, Delph, Bacuna, Okore, Agbonlahor, Sinclair).

Ah, maybe. I've never really noticed ;-)

I would still guess that there are more white players than black in the league, though.

Well I am going to buy several, one each for the new Grandsons one of whom was in his Saints kit for the first time watching the game, one as a memoir for an incredible three minutes - now I know how women must feel having MO's!!!

Redslo, I think you may be seeing racism where it does not exist on this occasion, except for the possibility that they chose 250 white American women.

Perception of good looks is an individual thing, but usually based on characteristics similar to the eye of the beholder. This is why white women tend to think of black people such as Sidney Poitier as an example of a good looking black guy....He has white features that they identify with.

I hate to start a sentence with the age old disclaimer "I'm not racist BUT".......I'm not racist, BUT when it comes to black people I would like to bang, my preferences tend to be toward a less African appearance and more toward Halle Berry........Hold on, I just lost track of my thoughts thinking about banging Halle Berry............Yeah, it's not about race exactly, it's more about human nature.

Um....This still sounds like I may be racist.....I have banged precisely 3 black people and I was not excessively drunk on either occasion......Darn, I still feel like I'm failing the racist test. :(

You failed the racist test by assuming the American women were white. You also may have failed a sexism test.

But more seriously, the problem I had with the three lists is the relative difference between black presence on the ugly lists and absence on the good looking list.

This list, for example, raises no such concerns (except for the person who created the web addresses inability to count, which might actually have been caused by a headline writer who couldn't count, but got to fix his or her mistake):

http://www.thesportster.com/soccer/top-10-ugliest-premier-league-players-of-all-time/?view=all

Then there is this list:

The original list from caughtoffsides is not loading for me but I found the same list (absent pictures) here:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/row-zed/giroud-crowned-premier-leagues-hottest-5144632

Interestingly, this list from 9 years ago has no black players which might also be an indication of racism.

Yes, you can't win.
