Noodles34 Posted 17 May, 2015 Posted 17 May, 2015 Reckon KD will announce his retirement after Sunday, seems fitting to finish on 300. Clearly Gazziniga isn't up to it, would be very dangerous going into the season with him. so what about Green? Good enough? Yes. PL experience? Plenty Available? Would think so normal enough ego to fight Forster when his fit, without throwing his toys out if the pram? Hopefully. reckon we could get him for 4 or 5, which would be peanuts for the stability and experience he could provide.
tajjuk Posted 17 May, 2015 Posted 17 May, 2015 Yeh was thinking that when I saw him go off though didn't realise they had McCarthy who was excellent for Reading, promising young Keeper at on the bench all the time, then I watch the Stoke game and see they have Butland, another promising young English keeper doing f-all. Looks likely that Cech, Begovic and Green could be available the way the media are talking plus looks likely De Gea m ight go so Utd may need a Keeper, as may Spurs as LLoris may go, m ight be quite a few clubs looking or a quality keeper. Green would be a solid choice.
Matthew Le God Posted 17 May, 2015 Posted 17 May, 2015 Reckon KD will announce his retirement after Sunday, seems fitting to finish on 300. Would you give up a years worth of salary on your contract? so what about Green? Good enough? Yes. PL experience? Plenty Available? Would think so normal enough ego to fight Forster when his fit, without throwing his toys out if the pram? Hopefully. Green is on £50,000 per week at QPR, I doubt Saints will pay any where near that for someone that will end up second fiddle to Forster. reckon we could get him for 4 or 5, which would be peanuts for the stability and experience he could provide. "4 or 5" what?

John Boy Saint Posted 17 May, 2015 Posted 17 May, 2015 Peanuts. Can't you read. No way....... Charlie Brown in Goa!???!!!!
Dellman Posted 17 May, 2015 Posted 17 May, 2015 Green is old hat and relegation prone with a losing mentality, not our type at all. We are building for the future not taking other people's very over waged hasbeens,
cellone Posted 17 May, 2015 Posted 17 May, 2015 No way....... Charlie Brown in Goa!???!!!! Repeatedly lying on his back the other side of the line with the ball firmly clamped to his chest. One player I'm happy to write off before he signs. No good will come of this.
westofshannonsaint Posted 17 May, 2015 Posted 17 May, 2015 Would you give up a years worth of salary on your contract? & the chance to play European Football - with Saints, from League 1 (minus 10 points) KD has been on the same 'journey' as the rest of us, he was here in the darkest of days and stuck by the club, I hope he runs down his contract & then remains with the club in some capacity. LEGEND.
melmacian_saint Posted 17 May, 2015 Posted 17 May, 2015 (edited) I liked the Burnley keeper, Tom Heaton? Also how did Marshall do at Cardiff this season? Might be a good shout to go for him. Edited 17 May, 2015 by melmacian_saint

percy windham Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 While we're at it, I'd also like to sign Charlie Adam. The most sexiest and erotic of all the footballers.
farawaysaint Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 (edited) ... Edited 18 May, 2015 by farawaysaint I hate you all
Lord Duckhunter Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 I would only go for Green if it was a loan till Jan & QPR pick up half his wages. Or he signs for free on about 20k a week, to play until Frasier is back, then become back up. He's a pretty decent back up to have, better than kelvin or Gaza. But I cant really see it happening .
Lighthouse Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 Green is old hat and relegation prone with a losing mentality, not our type at all. We are building for the future not taking other people's very over waged hasbeens, I don't get that argument. He isn't relegation prone, he's just been playing in a really crap QPR team for a couple of seasons. Kelvin has seen just as many relegations and has gone down with 3 different clubs. QPR are in for a very tough season in the Champ and may well go straight down to League 1. I doubt Green will want to be any part of that and may well take a pay cut (he's probably already got a relegation clause in his contract) to get away from there.
No 2 to Maybush Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 I read that Chelsea were going to make an offer for Green - they will need a back-up if Petr Cech goes.
Lighthouse Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 5 consecutive relegations!!!No thanks CB Fry. Paging CB Fry to the main board - Frog's required urgently.

Green would be a solid choice. I was thinking this. Green or McCarthy would both be available with QPR going down. My preference would be for McCarthy as he's a younger player likely to improve in quality and in value. Similar to Butland in that they've both have call ups to the England squad in the past and they're international careers could kick off with a stint of first team football in the premier league. Think we went in for Butland before Stoke signed him and nothing came of it. Not sure how Stoke have managed to keep 3 quality keepers happy in Begovic, Sorensen & Butland.
positivepete Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 Green is old hat and relegation prone with a losing mentality, not our type at all. We are building for the future not taking other people's very over waged hasbeens, I agree, I said on a previous thread that Green is the most overrated keeper since Nicky Weaver.

Should I ask him if he's ever kept goal?
Lets B Avenue Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 5 consecutive relegations!!!No thanks March hare.
Gorgiesaint Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 If Robert Green is the answer.... ... what the hell is the question? Surely not who should start next season in goal....
Dalek2003 Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 5 consecutive relegations!!!No thanks I think he will be alright for 17th.
Gorgiesaint Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 There was a good keeper at Cardiff?? David Marshall. Also Allan McGregor is only on the bench at Hull. Also surprising that Thomas Sorensen is down the order at Stoke, but is he just a bit to old? (That said, I would have taken Brad Friedel even at 43 had he not retired)
DuncanRG Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 Hasn't someone at the club already said we're going to go for a young keeper who can grow into the role and challenge Forster when he's back?
The9 Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 David Marshall. Also Allan McGregor is only on the bench at Hull. Also surprising that Thomas Sorensen is down the order at Stoke, but is he just a bit to old? (That said, I would have taken Brad Friedel even at 43 had he not retired) Marshall is decent-ish but still a little unproven. McGregor I'm not really sure about, whilst Sorenson is gash and has been for about 4 years - you may as well have said Simonsen.
SuperMikey Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 David Marshall. Also Allan McGregor is only on the bench at Hull. Also surprising that Thomas Sorensen is down the order at Stoke, but is he just a bit to old? (That said, I would have taken Brad Friedel even at 43 had he not retired) McGregor got dropped due to bad form and hasn't got back into the team yet - Sorensen is on his way out at Stoke as they want to give Butland more time in the first team. I would take either of them as backup tbh but I wouldn't be overly enthusiastic about having them in goal for the best part of a season while Fraser's injured. I would be tempted to test Brighton's resolve with a bid for David Stockdale. He had a good season for them, and despite their final position of 20th they only conceded around 50 goals which was one of the lowest in the league. He's played Prem football before and is pretty experienced at age 29. Would be a good option to have on the books as Fraser is a very good keeper who would keep most others out of the team when he's fit and available so it would be difficult to keep another top-quality keeper happy long term.
The9 Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 Hasn't someone at the club already said we're going to go for a young keeper who can grow into the role and challenge Forster when he's back? Which, had they not also have said they were signing someone, would have led me to think Gazzaniga was going to be that person. He might have changed their mind - he might not.
Saint IQ Posted 18 May, 2015 Posted 18 May, 2015 I reckon we'll get that Nyland bloke from Molde and loan out Gazza
Bobbyboy Posted 19 May, 2015 Posted 19 May, 2015 I still want to know what the question is if Robson Green is the answer. "Disappointing ITV dramatic leads for 200 please Alex" Anyway, if we're talking about the goalkeeper Rob Green, I remember seeing his career end in one very specific moment during the 2010 world cup. It was a rare and beautiful thing, to see something so clear happen in the space of just a couple of seconds as the ball rolled into the net. Don't spoil it for me by pretending he still has a career. Meantime David Marshall would get my vote. He may turn out to be the next Kelvin but that's ok for now.

It was the moment when the USA officially became as good as England in international football. Now, of course, we are better. Young for a keeper though Redslo. Yes, but too old I would think to be viewed as an understudy for Forster. Might be right though given that Foster's full recovery is not guaranteed.
