Man City vs Saints - Build up

What's the chances of Morgan playing some part on Sunday, this may be my last chance to see him in a Saints shirt :(

France list out at 12.30 today (that's 11.30 your time) if he's on that he may be assumed to be fit enough for Sunday I suppose.

edit: Nope, dropped or not fit, not on the list anyway. Big deception for him I don't doubt.

I hope the latter not fit, wouldn't be good if he was dropped.

Had to laugh, I'm thinking about going to Dubai at Xmas and so was having a browse at the Dubai forum on the Trip Advisor. Who did I see on there? A certain dubai_phil64, could it be the same I wonder?

Nope not me. Why would I do TA reviews of this place?

All everyone needs to know is Barasti for Football, Ravi's for a Curry & Stables for half price drinks on a Tuesday with some karaoke thrown in.

You can find us lot on @dubaisaints on Twitter or Dubai Saints on FB. If you're down or planning to come we do help with where to go where to stay stuff & meet up for beers.

We average a tourist every two weeks to watch the games with us & forum members about once a month. (Big shout out to an S4E legend who was down a couple of weeks ago)

We get between 12 and 25 Saints fans down the pub for a game.

We're just proud to be a small part of the awesome machine that is Aussie Saint and the #globalsfc brand that Ralph mentioned in his speech (before the world fell asleep) the other night.

Shame about Morgan really tough to call the team for Sunday. When we have pace & tempo in our game we are unbeatable, however we don't do that so often when we play with two DM's, then we play more controlled and "grind" out good wins (eg WHU away)

Against Citeh I am not sure we can grind them down, they are flying at the moment after their mini slump, yet I fear we could get torn to shreds playing Davis VW & JWP in the centre up there.

The selection really hinges on which one of JWP Reed & Davis are dropped IMHO, and yes while sentiment is great, Gazza is improving and this is a huge game for us.

Kelvin wouldn't get a start I'm afraid no matter how much I believe he has earned it.

That is really bad news. I really hope he will give it one more season before leaving us, he deserves and is more than capable of CL football, I just hope everyone at the club can convince him.

He already did that, we just saw it.

In fact if he's been dropped by DD it will only make him more determined to leave, trouble is our price tag is high for a predominantly defensive player and he may well be stuck here forever. 26 next fall, not much time left really, it's got to be this summer or never I think.

Looks like City's youth (purchased) will be given a go... Anyone know who Kelechi Iheanacho is and whether he is any good? Was he part of the rape of our U21's the other night?

He was their number 9 (assuming the players are 1-11 in the report on the OS) - he was the least impressive of all their attacking players tbh, his goal was a tap in from inside the 6 yard box and he spent most of the match false nineing his way into midfield to create space for others. Athletic and pacy, decent enough touch but didn't really shine despite the result. Their number 5 (Angel Tasende) was a powerpack in midfield, like a "ready" Harrison Reed and their number 8 (Olivier Ntcham) had a decent shot on him.

He wouldn't get picked if he'd been injured unless he was a key player anyway, they're only playing friendlies and no point annoying the clubs.

I don't think moving at 27 is significantly different from moving at 26 in career terms. He'll get a 4-5 year deal wherever and then his next deal he's best placed to negotiate at 30, before he starts to slide, either way.

Man City have a good Academy team but this summer will be a big indication as to whether the club take the Academy seriously or not. If none of them are promoted to the first team squad as realistic contenders then it's a bit of a joke.

If they don't want them, we could use an U21 midfielder who was lots more effective than Reed in that particular match (no idea what happened when we beat them 2-0 the weekend before). :D

My Man City supporting mate said they played a weakened team as they had a game the day before (or after, I forgot) in Europe which they won.

Ah yes they played in some sort of international cup contest after being knocked out of the UEFA youth league ,they beat Porto 1-0 and then lost 4-0 against Utd U21s. Then we beat them, they've played a lot of football have City U21s.

Of course he would say that, standard last day of the season pre-match press conference. When thousands of people are paying £50 for a ticket you can't just say, "nah we can't really be arsed for Sunday."

What it comes down to is whether a bunch of players, after a long grueling season, will be willing to lunge into 50/50 tackles and headers or go sprinting full pelt to get back and defend. Or will it be in their mind that they're jetting off on a private yacht around Ibiza in 12 hours and they'd rather not spend 6 weeks in the physio room unable to walk instead.

Not saying it will be easy, just don't read anything into these press conferences.

Shame about Morgan but Steven Davis has scored against City for us twice so I have full faith in him opening his account for this season on Sunday.

Although it would be good if Mane could get a couple just in case he doesn't. And Pelle. And one from Long just to be sure. And JWP. And I don't think Fonte has one this season.

I found this quote strangely interesting:

With the curtain set to fall on the Chilean’s first season in England, he maintains that he has not suffered from any hint of ‘second season syndrome’ and that he found the 2013/14 campaign more of a challenge.

An incredible season deserves to be topped off by a win at City, and a 5th place finish. It will probably be the last time in the group for one or two of the players and they will want to go out on a high. Spurs and Liverpool simply aren't as good as us when we are at our best and it would be justice if we finished above them. I have every confidence in our ability to win this and for Spurs and Liverpool to slip up. We ride together - one last time!

We're not being liquidised on Monday, it's not our last ever game. We're only finishing for 3 months or so...

In all seriousness, I wish I shared your optimism, even if somehow we managed to win at City, despite the fact Liverpool and Spurs have tough games, I still think they'll do the business. 7th would still represent a brilliant season though and if Arsenal win the cup next week then happy days.

Not even 2 months, players will be back come the beginning of July to prepare our Europa League campaign which will start

towards the end of July, before that I think we've some games in Holland. For the players it's 5 weeks off and then back to the grindstone, trouble is some have internationals up to nearly the middle of June so they'll no doubt be back later.

I am really REALLY stoked for tomorrow. OK, it's unlikely we will rise above 7th, but I'm so accustomed to the relegation battles of old that I have reverted to that mindset.

Somehow, in my mind it is like 7th position is 18th position and we need yet another last day miracle to avoid the drop. Must get a win and hope other results go our way........Being an older Saints fan, it just seems so much more natural to look at the last day of the season this way. I don't think I will ever get used to us being a pretty good team!!! :?

Did anyone keep an eye on the man city youth team to see whether they might have a few in their lineup tomorrow? Can't see it happening myself but would be nice to get a bit of luck from the big teams for a change!

They beat United 3-1 with this squad:

Gunn, Maffeo, Humphreys, Evans, Angelino, Glendon ©, Barker, Byrne, Ntcham, Pozo, Iheanacho.

Pozo and Iheancacho were the ones being touted mainly for a spot in the first team so can't see them playing 2 days in a row.

O'Brien, Horsfield, Garcia, Nemane, Intima were all on the bench. Nemane would probably be the one out of them that would be in the squad? I'm only guessing as he's had a fairly decent season apparently...
