SaintJackoInHurworth Posted 14 May, 2015 Share Posted 14 May, 2015 It's great to hear that Rodriguez has signed so that that particular piece of transfer nonsense can be put to bed this summer. It's also good to hear that Clyne is in talks and things looking promising. However, therer is nothing about Schneiderlin and plenty of rumours that he is leaving, so are we to assume the rumours are true? Or is his contract long enough that we can take all of that with a pinch of salt? When does his contract expire anyway? If he is leaving then who should we get to replace him? Clasie? Vilhenna? Banega? Would we get any of them anyway? Or should we just focus on developing Ward-Prowse and Harry Reed? Personally I would rather JWP were developed as a more attacking midfielder and while I'm excited at the thought of Reed developing into a great talent, to expect him to fill Morgan's boots would be a lot of pressure. Schneiderlin's contract expires on 30th June 2017. Ward-Prowse - he definitely needs to improve his shooting ability, though he's not bad at free kicks from outside the box. Schneiderlin - so with two more years on his contract we could dig our heels in and keep him until next summer and then if he still wants to go (if the rumours are true) let him go then for a tidy sum in 2016, having developed a replacement during the 2015-16 season? Still, I doubt he will stay if he has only got two years left, so I assume we will have to sign a replacement. I'd love to see us sign Banega, but I guess that's unlikely! S-Clarke Posted 14 May, 2015 Share Posted 14 May, 2015 Slightly less urgency with Morgan given that he still has 2 years and a bit to go, and even if he didn't sign this year and went next summer...we'd still get decent $$. I would imagine, if possible, that Wanyama and Morgan are next for talks.

S-Clarke Posted 19 May, 2015 Share Posted 19 May, 2015 There are lots of rumours about Pirlo leaving so maybe him? Yeah true, Liverpool looking to the future with Pirlo by the looks of it. But I don't begrudge Morgan a move what so ever this summer, I think he's given us 7 brilliant years and he deserves his shot now. In my opinion he's at the level of Juve, Bayern, Real, PSG....so I'd love to see him turn out at any of those clubs. At least we wouldn't have to see him play against us every year. I still laugh at Spurs believing they have a chance of getting him, clueless.

angelman Posted 19 May, 2015 Share Posted 19 May, 2015 Thing the media don't really focus on is that Morgan isn't English and therefore moving abroad really is not an issue for him, seeing as he has been abroad for several years already. They presume that a PL team are the only ones that can offer him anything. While Arsenal might well be that team, it seems that they consider it a foregone conclusion. What I would dearly love, is for us to finish above Liverpool and Spurs as if anyone moves there......

benjii Posted 19 May, 2015 Share Posted 19 May, 2015 Not so concerned with Morgan leaving now Jay Rod is confirmed as staying and it sounds as though Clyne also is (assuming there aren't any unexpected departures yet to be mooted!). I think Wanyama will attract interest but not sure it will be at the level we can't refuse this summer. As others have said though, if Morgan goes I want him going to Arsenal, Man City (I actually think he would be perfect for them) or abroad, not to Spurs or Liverpool who we can realistically endeavour to finish above. £25million in should pay for Clasie and Austin. Then it's just a case of adding a number 10 (Djuricic, perhaps, or maybe even promoting Hesketh/McQueen), a GK, and a centre back or two depending on what happens with Toby and Gardos. I don't think Gardos is likely to get many opportunities so if someone is willing to pay a decent fee we should look to replace him with a defender who can also cover RB IMO. I expect we will also sign Vilhenna (not sure precisely what Koeman's plans for him are though) but it should be pretty cheap. We should be able to conduct our business for a net spend around £20million or so with only one player leaving which is pretty good. I don't see why we can't do even better next season if we recruit well. I think the top 4 will generally be stronger (and will be the same as this year) but Spurs and Liverpool face a testing season IMO and the teams below us, absent Swansea, are pretty cack. Donatello Posted 19 May, 2015 Share Posted 19 May, 2015 Aren't they talking about something like £60m for Pogba? I've seen £70m mentioned on regular basis. Realistically, they'll probably get £55m+. There's also talk of City part exchanging. Either way, they're going to end up with a big lump of funds being made available to them, so £25m is more than obtainable (from our perspective) for Morgan, I'd have thought. New young legs and enthusiasm and readiness to learn from the coaches who have chosen him, just what we need Just a weird way of looking at things. We stuffed a team that was terrible defensively, who offered little threat. That doesn't mean we never need a defensive shield again. As for "readiness to learn", at this point we need to be buying "already knows". Schneiderlin being on the pitch correlates with almost a goal a game more scored than conceded. S-Clarke Posted 22 May, 2015 Share Posted 22 May, 2015 Jeremy seems to be the 'mouth piece' for club leaks from what I've seen over the years. Would fully expect what he says to be true, I think all in our hearts we are gearing up for him to stay...but in our heads we know that he's already given us that ''1 more season'. I have confidence that his replacement will be of high quality - well, it has to be! Interesting word on Toby - I thought the agreed fee was more around the figure of 6/7.5m - so maybe we're offering a little more $$ to push Madrid's hand slightly? I would imagine we've got the transfer fees for Elia, Djuricic and Toby budgeted for - so in the likely event we don't make either of the wide men permanent signings, we could dip into those budgets to boost our chances of getting Toby. Andy Durman Posted 23 May, 2015 Share Posted 23 May, 2015 I was very unimpressed with Schneiderlin at the Aston Villa match. The most expensive designer clothes, all his groupies around him. He actually didn't look comfortable. He was reluctant to sign autographs. Think he's got to big in his own mind. He needs a father figure to get an arm round him and have a reality check. Get his feet back on the ground. You're a footballer not Peter Pan! He can be anything at Saints. He will be a nobody in a few years away from Saints. tajjuk Posted 23 May, 2015 Share Posted 23 May, 2015 The Premier League TV money pays their wages...... I think only a top four finish would have prevented Morgan from going, he was clearly made promises last year and he'll throw a right tantrum again if the club denies him a move and I don't think they will do that. I'm hoping he goes abroad, would love to see him at Juve especially if they loose Pogba, would be amazing to see a player developed through Saints and the lower leagues turning out for a giant of a club like Juventus. If get close to £30 million and the club should be pushing for every penny then I'm confident we can add to the squad quality all over the pitch, get that spend another £20 million on top, so £50 million or so on 4-5 players - GK (probably a loan), Toby, midfielder to replace Morgan and a Striker. Add in we have Jay Rod as well, people like Pelle, Mane and Tadic having a full seasons under their belt in the premier league so hopefully should improve, players like Targett, Reed and Ward Prowse hopefully improving more. I reckon like Jose says we can push that top 4 all the way if we get those signings right.
