Swedish season - the story so far......

Now we are 8 games (of 30) into the Swedish season, and there are no clear leaders with the runaway results that we have been used to in the past years.

In fact, everything is about as unsettled as you could possibly imagine. Currently Gothenburg lead the table (a surprise recovery after several very ordinary seasons) followed by champions; Malmö, and Elfsborg, Djurgården, AIK and Norrköping all preceding each other by the margin... of just one point.

Although there have been tough, exciting fixtures, certainly no team seems to be a potential champion, and all have had at least one poor game.

Meanwhile, Örebro are anchored at the bottom of the table with just 2 points from a possible 24 (looks like a tough season ahead for them).

Those Saints fans who have formed " an attachment " to one or more Swedish sides frequently ask how their favourites are getting along.

Quite a few fans who toured with Saints' sides during the Strachan regime, will recall visiting various clubs, none of whom have set the world alight at present except perhaps Jönköping South, who have made a lightening start and head Superetten (read Championship) by several points.... but there is still a long way to go, but it is encouraging for the Småland side who have never played at the highest level.

The generally poor standard of club football (Sweden didn't qualify for the last World Cup), has in part been lifted by the influx of players from Africa, Eastern Europe and the Middle East....but that won't necessarily help the national side who have struggled a bit in recent games.

It remains to be seen if there are any bright new talents for the nest generation National side who still rely heavily of goals from Zlatan Abrahamovic, who himself plays for PSG in France, and many of the blossoming young talents frequently move to lower league sides in Holland and Italy.
