Swansea win

Arsenal just have too many of the same player.

Ozil, Ramsey, Cazorla, Wiltshire. They're all the same player. Jinking number 10's, who like to cut inside.

I'm not sure why he thinks he can have all of those in one team, it will never work as it will just be a frustrating watch.

Swansea did exactly the same to Arsenal as they did to us. Defended the edge of their penalty area and looked for the break. Arsenal tried to walk it in at times and their goalie had a great game. Oh well. Man City at home for them and they'll want to cement second place. Even if Swansea draw they are still behind us. Let's not get too depressed. Anyway, if we beat Villa makes it very likely that we keep 7th.

Villa are on fire, dont fancy our odds.

We may well need more than 3 points now from the next two.

Away form in 2015 will have cost us, especially of late if we don't get 7th.

5th was there for the taking this season. When Spurs and Liverpool inevitably improve next year it will be hard to have that chance again.

Whether you think that the Europa league is a waste of time or not, I , at the beginning of the season would have regarded getting into Europe as a success. Success for Saints appears to be developing young players to sell to other clubs and not a lot more matters.

I give up predicting this lot. Beat Villa and we 'should' be fine!

All ifs and buts. But, if only we beat Spurs and at least drew with Swansea at home. These 4 points would probably have seen us 6th with a chance of 5th! We have really screwed up, but we have one real last chance of getting 3 points at home to Villa...... Then we are in the hands of fate!

What a cack way to get 6 points, hate it, can't believe they did to Arsenal what they did to us! Feel sick at the thought they may finish above us.

Arsenal's victory against us was arguably more of a technicality. Two players forced off through being hacked at by Arse players so when Toby pulled up with an injury we had to finish with 10 men. Fraser had a stormer that game though.

Swansea's victory was more like ours at OT...don't get much posession, score late, defend well

hell they did the exact same thing at SMS

But the blames lies with us and our wretched recent form. For me Monk is a better manager than Koeman or at least he has done a better job this season.

It looks like we are throwing the Euro place away on purpose after mediocre performances in our last 2 away games , only a win against Villa on Saturday will convince me otherwise, even if we do manage a 7th place finish based on Arsenal's performance tonight I think Villa will do a Wigan and will win the cup anyway.

Spurs are also trying hard to finish 8th too But I think we have the best chance

Who else thinks we are throwing it away so we don't screw ourselves like Everton next season?

That's us finishing 8th then. I questioned why Jack Cork would move to a club like Swansea and now it looks like they're going to finish above us. This is just another event that will take the shine off this season.

I still think letting Cork go is the biggest mistake Koeman's made. We'll really miss him next season.

Koeman should come out and state if he wants Europa or not. That way if we don't we can all do something else instead of bothering to turn up at SMS on Saturday to watch the same tripe again. We need to study how other teams score goals and try to do the same things ourselves. Passing sides to death with no end result is just garbage.

I'm genuinely worried about finishing 8th - after the first half of the season we had it'd be such a kick in the balls not to have a shot at Europe (and realistically our only shot now is for Arsenal to win the cup, unless we win our last 2 games and Spurs don't).

Kudos to Swansea though, I wasn't sure Monk would be up to much as a manager but he's shown some real nous and has produced results without compromising on how they play. Yeah they've shut up shop and sat deep against a few teams and got results that way but they've also completely destroyed other teams with their passing game too. With proper additions in the summer they could be a real force next season with our own Jack Cork making their midfield tick.

I find it a complete joke that clubs are trying to avoid qualifying for the Europa league. I know teams who have been in it haven't had particularly good domestic seasons but it's good experience if you want to be breaking into the Champions League. Isn't there even a place in the Champions League for the winner of the Europa League?

So the dreaded long ball game...............just bypass midfield.......that will work :mcinnes:

Why would Saints lose on purpose to avoid Europa? Each position higher in the league is worth a million or so extra, and if Saints are worried about the effect of Europa all they have to do is play the kids/fringe players. Or if that gets them in trouble, play some 1st team players, but lose in the first round on purpose (as some are suggesting we are doing now).

Swansea have two tough but winnable games, we have 1 winnable game I'd say. Probably

50/50 who will come higher. Although I could see spurs losing both their games too, depends how much fight is less in hull.

Or Swansea lose to Man City, Man U beat Arsenal, City are therefore almost definately second when they play us and we defy the odds and actually win at home to Villa, job done......glass being half full, obviously.

He wasn't even a starter, not sure how we miss him so much.

We don't want Europa League as a club - I thought that was pretty obvious? As soon as Liverpool didn't get to the Cup Final there was a chance that 7th wouldn't get Europa, hence Saints and Spurs form...

You jest I trust, we're sliding down the table because we can't score and we don't defend as well as we might, because we don't want to is utter bolloaks as far as EL qualification is concerned.

But he wouldn't have played ahead of Davis, they play in different positions?

Davis has played DM on occasions this season I think, when both Morgan and Victor were out. Can't remember which games, when they were both injured I suppose. We let Cork go before his time, there was no point in selling him off for a pittance

before this summer, he's a good pro and would have done his best, we wanted the money that's all.

Agree. Similar type of player, the attacking midfielders and an unwillingness to shoot at goal, preferring to walk it in. A bit like us. :)

I watched a whole game of attack v defence and then heard the Swindon v Sheff Utd score! I could have been watching a goalfest on SS2!!! :mcinnes:

yes Swindon game was top notch

Despite letting in 5 goals I though Jack Stephens looked very good for Swindon

Villa are safe and have a cup final to think about....that's the positive thought I'm going with.

Safe ? Not if they lose both matches and with us playing at 12 45 on Saturday they won't know the Hull/Newcastle/Sunderland results or even have any idea how those games are going. So they'll try to win and certainly won't be slacking off. the week after perhaps when their safety is assured or at least visible during the game.

yes id be happy with that unless were challenging in europa league with a big squad that is capable of winning to gain champions league qualification then its a no no from me why suffer potential key injuries just to say we played in the europa league ,christ no one wants to play in that apart from say middle ranking italian clubs or russian only chelsea took it seriously when they played in the semis a couple of years ago no one from this league is interested.

The numerous times he's already said it not enough for you then?

Also, some of us have already bought Season Tickets for next season irrespective of where we are and what we're challenging for, never mind the last home match of this...
