sadoldgit Posted 2 May, 2015 Posted 2 May, 2015 There isn't much that makes me laugh on TV at the moment but saw this the other day and it cracked me up. Not usually a Peter Kay fan but this is great.
The Cat Posted 2 May, 2015 Posted 2 May, 2015 I really laughed when he was berating her for having Now 48 as her favourite album and not knowing the original band that recorded Dreams. The rest I found to be quite gentle humour, the most intriguing thing is how their relationship will develop.
sadoldgit Posted 2 May, 2015 Author Posted 2 May, 2015 I saw the second one first. Saw the first one last night and lolled at the bit where het gets covered in p*ss and the ongoing gag. As you say, gentle humour and a lot comes across as adlibbed.
CB Fry Posted 2 May, 2015 Posted 2 May, 2015 Watched it all, and the series gets better as it goes on. I thought the first episode was okay but it gets warmer and funnier with each episode. Easily the best thing he's done since Phoenix Nights which isn't saying a great deal (and he is only a co writer on this too). His co-star Sian Gibson is great too, and out of nowhere will fly on the back of this. In a "gets lead role in new ITV comedy drama" kind of way. There will definitely be another series.
Batman Posted 2 May, 2015 Posted 2 May, 2015 it is really good Nearly everything Kay does is very good. brilliant comedian
bridgeman Posted 12 May, 2015 Posted 12 May, 2015 I have seen the opening three shows and i really like it. His co star who is co writer is good too.
Lets B Avenue Posted 12 May, 2015 Posted 12 May, 2015 Love the FM radio station. "Today's mystery year saw the death of Freddie Mercury and Julia Roberts was 'Sleeping with the Enemy'. Looks like poor Freddie was as well."
badgerx16 Posted 12 May, 2015 Posted 12 May, 2015 Love the FM radio station. "Today's mystery year saw the death of Freddie Mercury and Julia Roberts was 'Sleeping with the Enemy'. Looks like poor Freddie was as well." Wonder if they'll release a soundtrack album.
cryoman1965 Posted 12 May, 2015 Posted 12 May, 2015 Not sure if it was part of the show or not, in the second show there was a small placard by the roadside advertising a Brazilian while you wait. Not noticed any others yet. And the dogging episode was hilarious.
Chez Posted 12 May, 2015 Posted 12 May, 2015 The 'dogging' episode had me in stitches likewise. I didn't think it was up to much until that joke unfolded. Not quite hit that same height since, but love the `gentle' comedy Kay creates. Phoenix Knights is just fantastic television.
badgerx16 Posted 13 May, 2015 Posted 13 May, 2015 The distraction for me is that due to retakes and changing camera angles, there is little or no continuity in the background, and my wife and I are constantly going 'that's on the road to...' or 'we went past there the other week', let alone that some scenes jump by miles. I spent five minutes of this episode trying to place a car park he drove past as I could remember parking on it.
The Cat Posted 13 May, 2015 Posted 13 May, 2015 The last few minutes of the episode just on were bloody hilarious.
Wes Tender Posted 14 May, 2015 Posted 14 May, 2015 Last night there was the sign outside the restaurant; one meal for the price of two. Second meal free.
The9 Posted 14 May, 2015 Posted 14 May, 2015 Loads of little jokes to make you watch it again and again, just like Phoenix Nights. Little subtle things like calling Ted's replacement, "Ted 2" in the titles, and what did he call him in the last episode?
Lorne Malvo Posted 16 May, 2015 Posted 16 May, 2015 The sign saying ' missing husband - last seen entering a whore' .. ah and I cracked up when he tripped over posting that card.
