alpine_saint Posted 1 January, 2009 Author Posted 1 January, 2009 What short memory some people have.... George Burley was superbly timely with filling our defensive holes wasnt he ???
TopGun Posted 1 January, 2009 Posted 1 January, 2009 (edited) What does GB have to do with anything? And also for much of his regime he had lots of different people in charge. What I am saying is that Lowe and JP will recognise the shortfalls and do what they can. How can you think differently Alps? I am pleased to relay however that Austrians have more sex partners than any other nation in a survey reported on the BBC. That surprised me a bit. Edited 1 January, 2009 by TopGun A special for Alpine.
dubai_phil Posted 1 January, 2009 Posted 1 January, 2009 Taking out the padding, I agree we need a centre back and have done ALL season Sort of a 6ft 5in version of Perry with pace, brains, massive upper body strength, impeccable fitness record, never gets injured and never gets suspended, of and of course, CCC experience and strong leadership qualities. As I don't play CM 09, anyone got any ideas?
Chez Posted 1 January, 2009 Posted 1 January, 2009 As I don't play CM 09, anyone got any ideas? neither do I but try Danny Livesey from Carlise for size. Pele from WBA might also be an option.
Andy_Porter Posted 1 January, 2009 Posted 1 January, 2009 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Gerrard We had one bid rejected in the summer, would make sense to go back for him. According to Wiki he even put in a transfer request. He's the sort of player we should be buying as well, will be hungry to make it at this level and has a bit of experience for Walsall.

1965onwards Posted 1 January, 2009 Posted 1 January, 2009 Of course JP can be relied upon to sort the problem out. Like he started the season without recognised fullbacks. We still don't have any. Gambled on a old crocked CB. What a bunch of tits on here.
Northant Saint Posted 1 January, 2009 Posted 1 January, 2009 Same old story with you Alpine. The transfer window has hardly opened and you are already moaning and making the situation worse. Complain at the end of January would you because you aren't doing anybody any favours. And maybe a few suggestion as a side order to your pessimism wouldn't go amiss?
St Marco Posted 1 January, 2009 Posted 1 January, 2009 Rumour has it Cork has been sold to Charlton. Again that is just a rumour i heard. But it would not surprise me, same thing happened with Iffil didnt it. Wonder whatever happened to him.

Bolton are after him i think, and with his dad being there, sounds more likely. He will finish the season with us though, i have been assured!
St Marco Posted 1 January, 2009 Posted 1 January, 2009 Why would he go to Charlton permanently? Bolton are after him i think, and with his dad being there, sounds more likely. He will finish the season with us though, i have been assured! Well all i heard was Charlton were scouting him and supposedly put a bid in for him to Chelsea. The reason we have no announced his loan extension yet though we were in discussions to me suggests we were not the only ones putting in offers. So as i said all i heard was someone at Charlton had spoke to him. If it was for a loan deal i dont think he would go as he said he would like to stay here. But we have to be serious, at the end of the season we wont be able to buy him especially if were down. Charlton are **** but they have more money then most of the teams. They will be very active in the window. They ship so many goals and i think have let in the most. So would make me believe obviously they will be going for defenders to stop the flood of goals. If they buy him he gets a first team spot and no doubt will see them move up the table. As **** as they are i just cant see them going down. With Bolton he wont get in the team and will just be in the same situation he is now where he gets loaned out for the next few years. So i think for a lot of players they just want to be playing 1st team football and be settled. If i had to look at the three teams i would love to see the lad sign for us but if Chelsea have offers for permanent deals they will take that above loans for sure. But as i said that is just a rumour and will 99% probability be wrong! but one thing we can be sure of is he wont be playing for Chelsea will he.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 1 January, 2009 Posted 1 January, 2009 gone to Watford.....says it all really! Errr....who?:smt102

alpine_saint Posted 2 January, 2009 Author Posted 2 January, 2009 Of course JP can be relied upon to sort the problem out. Like he started the season without recognised fullbacks. We still don't have any. Now we barely have any recognised defenders at all... We are going to play 1(sorry, 0 - it is McGoldrick after all) -8-1, dontchaknow ???
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 2 January, 2009 Posted 2 January, 2009 What short memory some people have.... George Burley was superbly timely with filling our defensive holes wasnt he ??? Andrew Davies Wayne Thomas Bennett on loan.

AndyNorthernSaints Posted 2 January, 2009 Posted 2 January, 2009 Did you read my post properly ? Yes He was not to know about injuries at the time to be fair.
aintforever Posted 2 January, 2009 Posted 2 January, 2009 It looks like it will have to be Perry and Lancashire on Sunday which should be funny. BTW we have had 10 different CB pairings so far this season - that is shockingly bad management.
Chez Posted 3 January, 2009 Posted 3 January, 2009 (edited) BTW we have had 10 different CB pairings so far this season - that is shockingly bad management. one of the main reasons we struggled last season as well. Edited 3 January, 2009 by Chez
Minsk Posted 3 January, 2009 Posted 3 January, 2009 neither do I but try Danny Livesey from Carlise for size. Pele from WBA might also be an option. Pele was great as a defensive CM, but was shyte as as a CB.
ExSt Peter Saint Posted 3 January, 2009 Posted 3 January, 2009 I have to agree that we are absolutely up the creek as far as having any decent defenders goes. There should be a back-up plan if loanees are recalled, or better still we should have some players we own who can play CB week in week out.
Chez Posted 4 January, 2009 Posted 4 January, 2009 Pele was great as a defensive CM, but was shyte as as a CB. I disagree with that, he was certainly better at CM, but one bad mistake against Derby seems to have wiped otu some decent displays earlier in the season. I'd take him ahead of Pearce, Perry and Lancashire.
