Turkish Posted 29 April, 2015 Share Posted 29 April, 2015 http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/573713/Tottenham-Townsend-Schneiderlin-Southampton-Arsenal-gossip http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-to-offer-townsend-or-stambouli-to-southampton-in-bid-to-clinch-20m-schneiderlin-deal-10211885.html Being reported tonight spurs are to bid Townsend or Stambouli plus cash for Schniderlin. The deal itself is being touted at £20m, £5m short IMO. As for The players up for grabs, I'm not a huge fan of Townsend but I can see what he would bring to the table, stambouli would be a like for like replacement for Schniderlin and before he joined spurs was doing very well at Montpeillier. I wouldn't give too much stock to his lack of game time at spurs as as we have seen with MP he has his favourites and if you're not one you don't play. Plus them only paid about £4m for him a year ago so his value won't have gone up in that time. So I'd says deal for £20m + Stambouli or £15m + Townsend, wouldn't be bad business. However, considering Schniderlin said only three or four weeks ago that he didn't want to be sitting in front of his telly Wednesday nights, he wanted to be playing in the champions league then there is little chance of this deal happening. Maybe his agent needs to communicate this to spurs as they don't seem to realise he won't be wanting to join them.
Matthew Le God Posted 29 April, 2015 Share Posted 29 April, 2015 If Schneiderlin leaves it'll be to a club in the Champions League, which rules Spurs out. Its looking likely both Saints and Spurs will be in the same European competition next season. I'd imagine the club would want a better player than Stambouli to replace him, so I really can't see this happening.

No it doesn't rule that move out at all, he had a great relationship with MP so that might swing it a little. And because you want a better type of player to replace MS, doesn't mean it's any likely that we will get one.

And because you want a better type of player to replace MS, doesn't mean it's any likely that we will get one. I said the club would want better. Last summer we sourced better players and improved, I have every confidence in them to do the same again. I doubt that involves getting a replacement that has struggled to make any kind of impression at a close competitor.

Lighthouse Posted 29 April, 2015 Share Posted 29 April, 2015 I'd really struggle to see the logic in going to Spurs, unless it really is all about money. If that is the case, how come Spurs can offer so much more than Saints? Their ground is only marginally bigger and the prize money between 6th-8th and 5/6/7th isn't really all that. They're already throwing £100kpw at Soldado and Ade to name a couple of players, how can they offer our players a bumper pay rise and still follow FFP. Baird of the land Posted 30 April, 2015 Share Posted 30 April, 2015 If he goes there it will be clear that he doesn't have an interest in playing champions league football. SO i really hope he holds out for a move to a club that is actually in the Champions League. Not interested in any of the makeweights they are offering either, Townsend seems vastly overrated based on brief moments for England that haven't been replicated domestically. Daft Kerplunk Posted 30 April, 2015 Share Posted 30 April, 2015 If schneiderlin goes to Spurs then it would be disappointing as they are the direct rival to our ambitions more than anything else. They do have a richer history than us and clearly have more fans generating greater income but they are clearly the team most there for the taking by us before they expand their stadium and leave us behind more in terms of income and player appeal. The rest above are a great deal harder to keep up with. Anyway, if MS genuinely wants Champions League football, he won't go there. And we will replace with someone just as Clasie. angelman Posted 30 April, 2015 Share Posted 30 April, 2015 When was the last time a player swap actually happened? I'm sure there is if the respective clubs actually wanted the players. While we looked at Townsend, and still might be, we have a fair few wingers at the moment. He's been involved in 16 league games playing a total of 743 minutes (not curtailed by any injuries). And Stambouli FFS. They signed him this summer, has partaken in 10 league games for a total of 409 minutes (no injuries). Why on earth would we consider taking bit part squad players for what many consider to be our best player. If we were bottom of the league or in the Championship, it might make sense. As it is, we are challenging Spurs and Liverpool for 5th place so the idea of their cast offs is ridiculous.

I'd much rather that we didn't sign him at all. Then again, I was a bit like that about Bertrand, but he's playing better for us than he has for anyone else so far, and I'm not sure Townsend has that improvement in him. He said he didn't want to spend Wednesday/Tuesday nights watching the Champions league anymore, so why would he sideways move to Spurs? As he'd still be watching it on the TV. I just think he's much more ambitious than that. If they're the only team interested, he should re-new his contract with us, with a release clause if a CL team comes in - and we go from there. MP is under serious pressure next year by the way, I think fans have kind of accepted some of the results this season as a ''bedding in'' period.....but they will expect a lot more next year. Although it's also not coincidence that a lot of the players decided to leave because Cortese did and they didn't have the confidence in the club management that the progression would mean their personal ambitions. I don't think that's going to be the situation this close season as we're clearly stating our ambitions and anyone going will be showing they don't believe we can do it DESPITE the past season's improvement without Cortese and the "Meltdown". Of course if they all leave again on the balance of probability eventually it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy, as we'd have to rebuild to get back to the previous level, before we could improve on it. Spurs are 1 point ahead of us and are releasing these rumours that involve 3 players, and no doubt this will be somewhat unsettling for the players involved. 1 is a regular. 2 aren't. So not only is indirect tapping up going on (not that it hasn't for a year or so) it is unsettling the team.
