stevegrant Posted 30 April, 2015 Share Posted 30 April, 2015 Foderingham is actually free agent in summer In his early twenties and very highly rated keeper Played a lot of games so has league experience Would be a great shout as new no2 keeper Kelvins replacement perhaps Gazzanigga simply not good enough for PL A number of immediate problems there: Firstly, assuming any new keeper signing is Davis' replacement, that means whoever we sign has to be good enough to play in August for at least 5 months, maybe longer. Foderingham has been at Swindon for 3 years, a year in League Two and two in League One, and hasn't been remotely exceptional in that time. He was even subbed off in a League Cup game after 21 minutes because he'd been so ****. I think I saw him throw one in his own net last week as well. Gazzaniga wasn't good enough (or, more accurately, confident enough) when he was thrown in at the deep end a couple of years ago. Since then, nobody really knows how well he's progressed other than the occasional U21 appearance (where he was very impressive in the televised game against Blackburn recently), but to write him off based on a handful of appearances as a 21-year old with only 20 previous senior games seems ludicrously short-sighted. Saint Garrett Posted 30 April, 2015 Share Posted 30 April, 2015 I have more confidence in Gazza than Foderingham. Would quite like to see Gazza given a go behind our back 4/5. Half the problem last year, was that he came in when Lovren also got injured and we were crap as a unit, as well as him not being confident. He has had a few decent games, so he is capable. Baird of the land Posted 30 April, 2015 Share Posted 30 April, 2015 Given Kelvin's got another year on his contract(as far as i'm aware) i really don't see any other scenario than him continuing as 2nd choice and competition for the loan keeper in Fraser's absence. Don't see the Foderingham thing as likely
Redslo Posted 30 April, 2015 Share Posted 30 April, 2015 He'll be Uniteds first choice when De Gea is sold to Madrid. Assuming Madrid doesn't get a transfer ban.
Saint_clark Posted 30 April, 2015 Share Posted 30 April, 2015 Assuming Madrid doesn't get a transfer ban. Madrid will appeal and that alone will push the ban back.
Dellman Posted 30 April, 2015 Share Posted 30 April, 2015 Gazza got off to a terrible start but the club obviously have confidence in him and he played really well in the U21 final and has the top goalkeeping coach backing him, perhaps there is a future for Gazza, I really hope so. If we weren't still in with a shout for 5th place, I would have quite like to see Gazza thrown in for the last few games just to see how much he has progressed since his early days. As it is, it is too much to risk, but I dare say he is on par with Davis at the moment?
Convict Colony Posted 1 May, 2015 Share Posted 1 May, 2015 The thing I noticed about Gazza the other night in the cup game that I hadn't seem much of from Fraser and Kelvin this season was how often he came out and claimed or punched the ball which eased the pressure on the defence significantly. Watching De Gea/Courtois they always do the same thing but I think we can think of at least 3-4 goals that we conceded this year where an attacker has won the ball in our 6yard box. I'd be keen to see Gazza play in the Hugo Lloris style role for us, he is significantly a better footballer than Kelvin and Fraser so he could push up further and for the occasionally charlie adams v courtois moment that might occur his high starting position would stop the sort of goals that villa scored agains't us this season. If we have finalised our place with a game or two to spare - that could mean we have cocked up and can only get 7th - then give Gazza a go. Yes, he looked impressive for the U21s.
