terrasaint Posted 28 April, 2015 Posted 28 April, 2015 A rumour apparently going round the Bournemouth area that early season matches to be played at Southampton while their ground is being redeveloped. Anyone know if there is any truth in this?
bpsaint Posted 28 April, 2015 Posted 28 April, 2015 Just a myth, Dean Court is perfectly adequate to hold top tier football.
terrasaint Posted 28 April, 2015 Author Posted 28 April, 2015 Just a myth, Dean Court is perfectly adequate to hold top tier football. 11000 capacity. They must surely have plans to expand?
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 28 April, 2015 Posted 28 April, 2015 11000 capacity. They must surely have plans to expand? That doesn't mean they need to play elsewhere whilst the work is done though.
bpsaint Posted 28 April, 2015 Posted 28 April, 2015 They probably have plans to extend yes but there's no minimum capacity rule to play in the Prem. It's a fairly modern all seater stadium, the only issue is media facilities but other than that it's perfectly acceptable for next season.

warsash saint Posted 28 April, 2015 Posted 28 April, 2015 They are filling in the corners & putting in a larger temporary stand ... i think it will take capacity up to 15k
CWD Posted 28 April, 2015 Posted 28 April, 2015 It's nothing to with their capacity, I heard it was a problem with media facilities which aren't prem standard. Easily fixable I would imagine, especially as they're redeveloping anyway.
Matthew Le God Posted 28 April, 2015 Posted 28 April, 2015 (edited) 11000 capacity. They must surely have plans to expand? There is no minimum capacity requirement for the Premier League. Bournemouth do have plans to expand to 18,000... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30169243 But you don't have to move out of your stadium just because you are adding more seats. A huge number of clubs just continue playing whilst construction takes place, it is extremely rare for a ground share. In any case, what would be the incentive for Saints to agree to a deal? Bournemouth could offer money, but it'll be tiny compared to the TV money and mean twice as many games on the St Mary's pitch. Not to mention the nightmare for the police of huge numbers of Bournemouth fans in Southampton. Blackpool started their Premier League season with a 12,000 capacity and improved media and medical etc facilities over the summer... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/blackpool/7764836/Blackpool-will-start-Premier-League-season-with-12000-stadium-capacity-says-chairman.html Edited 28 April, 2015 by Matthew Le God
SW5 SAINT Posted 28 April, 2015 Posted 28 April, 2015 Next person to post this "rumour" should be forced to buy a season ticket at Fratton Park. There are Human Rights rules regarding cruel and unusual punishments!
Crazy Diamond Posted 28 April, 2015 Posted 28 April, 2015 The Daily Echo's (Bournemouth version) editor was on Five Live last night and there are apparently no plans to expand or move.
Hatch Posted 28 April, 2015 Posted 28 April, 2015 Why bother going to all that expense just for 19 matches.
