Wages vs Ticket Price

So, we've all been told recently about how marvellous the club is for achieving the our good finish in the league last season on the back of the 16th biggest wage bill. And it is rightly a good achievement for the club.

I was then reading this article posted today on Daily Fail regarding west ham's pricing strategy for the Olympic stadium (obviously motivated by their attempt to A. FILL IT!! and B. grab as many of the local youngsters for as cheap as possible and kill off support for the local clubs in that area )

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3049513/West-Ham-season-tickets-cost-little-289-Hammers-Olympic-Stadium-2016-17-season.html

However, the article also includes a table comparing season ticket prices next season based on the lowest local adult prices and we are the 6th most expensive in the league.

I haven't give this much thought or dissected it in detail. But on the face of it, our season tickets prices represent the level of football whislt our wages do not...

Where has that money difference between level and wages got to, as well as the increased tv revenues and summer sales?

Can it be that this really is the difference between a responsibly run club and one that is funded purely by sugar daddies (most of the rest), because it looks like there is a huge difference in money in - to money out for saints vs the other clubs, and will this start to change now that we have allegedly balanced the books? I.e. real cuts in season ticket prices.

"Where has that money difference between level and wages got to, as well as the increased tv revenues and summer sales?"

If you mean "we're taking loads more money from fans than we're paying out in wages", it doesn't work like that. We're still taking a lot less in revenue than a lot of our rivals, but we're trying to compete with them for the same players who generally will go to whomever pays them the most.

We've just proven that the correlation between wages and points won is strong but can be broken (plus, calculations on last year's wages).

The increased tv deal money doesn't exist until 2016/17 anyway, and around 3/5th of the summer sales money didn't come into the financial period Saints reported on.

Being "responsibly run" and "sustainable" still means getting as much out of your customers as you can. People will pay the prices, they will still be the prices.

Also, we had "real cuts in ST prices" this season, in the corners of the ground, with everyone else staying on the same prices.

QPR £499 vs Saints £599 - given the stadia, I would say QPR is worse value than us, and that the £5.26 extra per game is worth it. Same can be said about Palace, Hull and the £2.57 more we pay. Selhurst Park is a diabolical ****hole.

Man Utd sure they have some cheap tickets, but they have some nasty surprises as well. Season Ticket Holders are required to purchase a ticket for all home cup matches (see below). And really, looking here - http://www.manutd.com/~/media/A6324988E6F34A9AB9B656D903634225.ashx - after the cheapest tickets, they do get rather expensive.

What are the Season Ticket requirements regarding home cup matches?

Subject to certain exceptions, Season Ticket Holders are required to purchase a ticket for all home cup matches and must provide card details which will be used by the Club to make these purchases. Season Ticket Holders can opt out of purchasing League Cup tickets and under 16 Season Ticket Holders can opt out of purchasing tickets for the FA Cup / UEFA Champions League / UEFA Europa Cup - please see your renewal pack for full details.

Any Season Ticket Holder that opts out of a home cup match will receive lower priority in any ballot held if we are oversubscribed with applications for any away match, semi-final and/or cup final in any competition.

The number of home cup games to be played will depend on how successful the team is, and whether it is drawn at home. The price of tickets for all home matches (which may vary for different competitions) can be found by visiting http://www.manutd.com/ticketprices.

Failure to make payments may result in a ticket suspension, please see Terms and Conditions.

So you can opt out, but then you'll find you miss out renewing your season ticket. Fortunately for ST holders this year, Utd didn't do very well in the cups.

Let's hope then that we end up no lower than 6th.

We've got the 8th most expensive most expensive season ticket, so let's hope we don't come lower than 8th.

What would be more useful is finding the average ST price for adults. Otherwise it's a bit like Ryanair where there are a couple of tickets at £0.99, a few at £5, some at £10 and the majority at £200.

I think perhaps West Ham are only as generous as someone who needs to tempt in an additional 20,000 fans.

This, of course this. And once they have them in, how long will ticket prices stay low? Of course it also helps being given a 54k capacity stadium for free (well maybe not free as they are paying a whopping £15m for a 99 year tenure) while we the tax payer pick up a £200m tab to convert an athletics stadium, which we we spent nearly £500m building in the first place, into a football one.

http://www.spectator.co.uk/features/9374702/londons-real-olympic-legacy-paying-to-build-the-stadium-twice/

And of course they sold Upton Park for some undisclosed figure, apparently less than the £71m that it is valued in the accounts, so let's say £50m for the sake of it. Seems a blinding bit of business, all so that ego's in government don't have a huge white elephant having spent a ridiculous amount on the Olympics.

Fair play to West Ham for pledging to lower their ST prices by quite a lot

The reason they are doing it in my eyes is so they don't play in a stadium under half full every week, otherwise they would be frozen or increased. How much is there capacity of the Olympic Stadium anyone know? I know it was going to be changed from the capacity it was at the Olympics but can't remember how much by
