Saint-Armstrong Posted 22 April, 2015 Share Posted 22 April, 2015 According to Voetbal International. Fully expect him to be a Saints player next season.
beatlesaint Posted 22 April, 2015 Share Posted 22 April, 2015 I thought this was a "done deal" ? If so why would he need to put in a transfer request if the clubs have agreed a fee etc ?

Feyenoord don't particularly want to sell - but he has just 1 year left and has now requested to leave.
Colinjb Posted 22 April, 2015 Share Posted 22 April, 2015 I thought this was a "done deal" ? If so why would he need to put in a transfer request if the clubs have agreed a fee etc ? He has now officially waived any loyalty fees he may have been due. So it's a sensible measure and in a perverse way honourable as it allows Feyenoord to maximise their income from the transfer. Lallana's Left Peg Posted 22 April, 2015 Share Posted 22 April, 2015 I know nothing about the player and I know Koeman has worked with the player before and is keen on a left footed central midfielder but I am curious as to how good he is if he can't get in the Feyenoord team ahead of Karim El Ahmadi. I do half-wonder the same thing. Koeman did an interview with FourFourTwo a fair while back, when he was linked to Villa - and listed Vilhena as a star for the future. MarkSFC Posted 22 April, 2015 Share Posted 22 April, 2015 sometimes its good to sign a player who isnt quite ready to be a definite starter. Koeman clearly knows the player and if he sees something in him "for the future" thats good enough for me. Would need one more though if/when Morgan leaves. shurlock Posted 22 April, 2015 Share Posted 22 April, 2015 The famed black box seems to be unearthing a lot of eredivisie players lately.
farawaysaint Posted 22 April, 2015 Share Posted 22 April, 2015 The famed black box seems to be unearthing a lot of eredivisie players lately. The manager obviously has input into who we would sign, the players also respect him and want to come here. I think using every available asset hardly reflects poorly on our scouting team. That was one of the things that wound me up about Lallana, his refusal to hand in a transfer request. He had 4yrs to run on his contract, the club didn't want to sell him, yet he was bleating like a tart about how the club were treating him. If the Clyne situation developes into a bidding war then it's not likely to happen, but hopefully we'll get a decent fee for him, which by not caving into AL's tantrums we did for AL as well. I see this comment over and over again and it is purely down to how the new manager likes to play and the type of players he has "confidence" in. Vilhena scored 6 goals and made 7 assists in the season before (think he was 19) when Koeman was the boss and won MOM twice that season. The fact he is left footed and scores means he offers something different to JWP/Davies which for a young player who can develop a lot over time for about 3-4mil would be a no brainer Scout Report: http://www.squawka.com/news/squawka-scouting-report-what-could-tonny-vilhena-offer-southampton/289970

As I said I don't know much about the player but I am familiar with Karim El Ahmadi, and so I do wonder how good he is.

Different types of player (one DM, one AM). One presumably fits the Feyenoord system better than the other.

As I said I don't know much about the player but I am familiar with Karim El Ahmadi, and so I do wonder how good he is. We need one of the Feyanoord guys in here but what I can tell the manager prefers Lex Immers over Vilhena (both playing attacking midfielder) I think El Ahmadi is playing the Vic+Morgan role in a tandem with Clasie. In his appearances this season as either a sub or starting the majority have seen him play in the front 3 on either wing so potentially he could solve our right side of the front 3 which we currently shove Tadic/JWP into as well as a goal scoring AM. Immers looks to be their AM and as I said Karim and Jordie their Vic/Morgan tandem. I think if the price is right, the fact he has represented Holland at every level and had his best season under Koeman and was on the verge of going to the world cup under Van Gaal last year is good enough for me for 3-4 mil. If he's an attacking midfielder rather than central midfielder then that is fair enough. I just recall the stuff in January about him being Cork's replacement, so presumed he was a central midfielder in that style.

Window Cleaner Posted 23 June, 2015 Share Posted 23 June, 2015 http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/midfielder-to-snub-reunion-with-southampton-coach-koeman-after-su There are just so man stories like this about, players said to definitely signing elsewhere and finally staying put for a new contract and no doubt more money. Agents are just using "sure things and done deals" to get their clients better terms.
scotty Posted 23 June, 2015 Share Posted 23 June, 2015 According to a dutch report I read, his mother fell ill and he decided to stay put to help her. Very laudable, fair play to him. (And that isn't my default sarcasm.)

Can't see it happening modern footballers seem to think getting their agent to have a word with the daily mail is handing in a transfer request! Wayne bridge did though and I did think lallana might so you never know!
