If they wanna' go - let 'em go ...

Is there a " moaner " in your workplace? In a working life of over 50 years, I've had a few different workplaces and in almost every one there was " a moaner ".

Someone who found fault with almost everything, and everyone else, the working conditions, the boss and of course...their salary.

We tolerate them, but in the end they are just a pain in the butt. They usually tell us how good they are, and how they are worth better.

I still recall the finest response to one of these moaners at a certain workplace, who was confronted by a colleague who posed the ultimate question....

If you think this is such a bad job....why are you still here ? Strangely enough, the place seemed to be a happier place after he did leave.

A football club is also a workplace where, if players (or others) feel they can do better, or are disatisfied with their lot...are entitled to leave - if they want to.

The many articles circulating now, have the likes of Clyne and Schneiderlin " hinting " at wanting " a higher level "....not sure about JayRod's frame of mind, but the media seem to have two or three destinations already decided for them.

IMO ...If they want to go then, providing we can get suitable compensation, they should go. We spend one third of our lives at work (some far more than that) and according to a recent survey ..40% of the population said - they didn't like their work situation. For many people it's a matter of job satisfaction more than the salary, and in a short career where the next injury could be career-ending, you can't really blame players for wanting to " make hay while the sun shines...."

We will undoubtedly " lose " a few more players in the summer, and have differing opinions about how irreplaceable they are to the team.

A former French president General De Gaulle. once said..." the graveyards are full of irreplaceable men..." and so it is with footballers (as we saw last year.)

The bottom line is always ...." if they want to go, then let them go..." you can't reform the entire workplace just to suit one person.

The happiest times in my working life weren't those where I was paid most, (and there were one or two of those), but the ones where there were NO moaners.

It's a lovely thought but lets not forget that we forced Schneiderlin to stay (either through necessity or lack of suitable offer) and he has been one of our best players this season and a key contributor.

So really, the approach of letting anyone go who wants to doesn't really be at St Marys doesn't really work unless we think we can replace them and receive a huge offer. But then, that approach wouldn't be novel, it's just sensible and normal.

I agree, but Morgan was just joining the queue of those who had left (if rather late) and probably feared what would happen to the club after Pochettino jumped ship.

In hindsight, it might be argued that he is " more marketable" (after this season's performances), than he was at the end of last.

Of course, the Club has ultimate control...in that he has a contract...but it was an unpleasant time when reading the banter back and forth about his frame of mind after the exodus and everyone wondered how he would perform. To his credit he did button down and DAJFU this season.

As he was with Saints - even before we ended up in L1, I consider he's done his shift several times over and (like Lambert)...I bear him no ill will if / when he leaves.

I wouldn't call the football club just another workplace. If my company employed me from a youth, and in time paid me more money in a year than I could probably spend in a lifetime, I'd like to think I would give them some deserved loyalty.

Face facts, a lot of footballers are just greedy c*nts.

I think there's a sense of entitlement built up over those years of special treatment, especially when parents of young kids are talking to agents who've done deals to sell the likes of Walcott, Bale and Shaw on. By the time they've got to about 16 they're the thing that's buying mummy and daddy's new house, in some cases, and the longer term isn't necessarily a consideration when all that could come crashing down in one bad tackle or an awkward landing...

Why?

Because troll, that's why. Some positions are indefensible and this is one of them.

He's clearly been as good this season as last, we're on the brink of our highest ever Prem finish, he's been one of our most consitently good players. You can't get to the levels Schneiderlin is at by half-ar5ing it, so there's no question at all that he's been completely professional and committed.

You'd also have to be a complete mentalist to think we'd have got anyone remotely as good in to replace him in the kind of timescales we were talking about. Even now there's concern that with a year to plan a sale and replacement we might end up significantly worse off when he surely leaves.

came in here expecting a farting discussion, am leaving disappointed :(

strangely enough, so was I.

I didn't set out to be controversial in the OP... it was just a thought that developed, but maybe the core arguement was a bit too much for some to admit to.

...or maybe some of the traditional " moaners " on here took a look in the mirror....

It's not as simple as that. If we let every one go who wanted to, Clyne, Morgan and Vic wouldn't be here and we would be close to relegated.

It's not as simple as that. We would also have players coming in wouldn't we

with respect ....you've just made the point yourself. Disatisfaction can spread like the plague. I'm encouraged to see younger players glad to get new contracts.

When "Star players" bleat in public about "playing at a higher level", and how they are not happy at SMS, then we are best off without them regardless of who it may be.

Ambition is not a bad thing, but getting ideas above your station is also a major problem - isn't it ...Messers. Lallana, Shaw and Lovren.

If they thought they were going on to bigger and better things and carry on from where they left off, then the splinters in their collective a**es must prove a point.

There is surely a % of players who are glad to get £100K/week and stay on the bench for half the season, but most dedicated players surely want to play every game.

Relegation :scared: - I think not. We've done surprisingly well this season considering the chaos of last summer, and the stop gap solutions that were made.

We may not repeat the exercise with new replacements, but we are surely still Euro material, although I don't think the team is mature enough for CL - yet.

Europa League - if achieved will be a good test of the squad - if we make it through the qualifying groups, then we must regard that a major success....

At any rate we will have achieved a level that was seldom seen in the 27 seasons that we survived in the Prem. previously.
