Matthew Le God Posted 21 April, 2015 Share Posted 21 April, 2015 (edited) The article is fundamentally flawed, they are using 2013/14 wages to discuss the 2014/15 league table. Edited 22 April, 2015 by Matthew Le God
SuperMikey Posted 21 April, 2015 Share Posted 21 April, 2015 QPR's wage bill was 195% of their turnover - and that was in the Championship! I imagine our wage bill will be a lot higher this season, will be interesting to see how the 2 seasons compare when the figures are released. Saint Garrett Posted 21 April, 2015 Author Share Posted 21 April, 2015 I'd think our wages this year might actually be lower!? Although probably not. Gaston and Osvaldo out, along with Boruc. Rickie and Adam must have also been our top earners.
VectisSaint Posted 21 April, 2015 Share Posted 21 April, 2015 They are using 2013/14 wages to discuss the 2014/15 league table. Noticed that, really is bizarre that a hack seems to think performance this season is correlated to wages last season.

The9 Posted 21 April, 2015 Share Posted 21 April, 2015 we are 7th now. opposed to 8th last season. Well spotted, but what point are you making? That the money we paid Lambert, Lallana, Lovren, Chambers and Shaw a year ago has got us there?
the saint in winchester Posted 22 April, 2015 Share Posted 22 April, 2015 Wages as % of turnover is a more telling stat. We are almost 60%, pretty high. Man Utd wages itself may be the highest, but only 50% of turnover. Any clubs at over 100% are committing financial suicide.

I'd expect QPR's wages-to-turnover ratio to have dropped to around 70-75% this season, as they've got the benefit of PL revenues, which they didn't have last season where these figures are based. As already mentioned, it's difficult to read too much into the figures when wage bills, performances, etc can fluctuate so much at clubs from one season to the next. Nobody outside the club knows what the total player payroll is this season - you can make educated guesses but as clubs tend to release their financial figures at the latest possible moment (3 months after year end for listed clubs, 9 months for unlisted), everything's already evolved in that period. The9 Posted 22 April, 2015 Share Posted 22 April, 2015 Didn't Ralph say in an interview this season that wages had increased? You'd imagine they would, what with us finally shipping out all the low earners on League One/Championship promotion incentive contracts and having to replace them with players who'd actually contribute something. Equally, I think that "wage rise" should be viewed in the context of how much we'd have had to play the departing players who went to Liverpool/Arsenal etc in order to keep them, which would have meant an even larger wage bill and possibly a lower finishing position. angelman Posted 22 April, 2015 Share Posted 22 April, 2015 But 9, we also "shipped out" two of the highest earners in Gaston (contract until 30/6/16) and Osvaldo (contract until 30/6/17). However we have yet to shift them off the books, so no doubt we will continue to pay. Hopefully Boca can pay us something. Their record transfer is £10.5m and their second highest is £3.5m. Not sure if anyone will buy Gaston or take him on loan next season.

Osvaldo in particular is a case where we'd pay him to stay away, though his desire to only play for top clubs in certain countries means they should at least have the means to cover his wage. There will be promoted sides looking for borderline Prem players with experience who are prepared to take a punt on a "flair player" who arguably, at a glance, looks like he might benefit from more matches. Can't see either of them staying in England for anything other than the inability of other clubs they'd want to play for to match their wages though. Lallana's Left Peg Posted 22 April, 2015 Share Posted 22 April, 2015 Didn't Ralph say in an interview this season that wages had increased? He did, and it's very feasible that they have if you look at who left and who we signed.
Redslo Posted 22 April, 2015 Share Posted 22 April, 2015 Noticed that, really is bizarre that a hack seems to think performance this season is correlated to wages last season. It probably is given that wages last season are correlated to wages this season. Not the most accurate measure, of course, but still not meaningless.
