3-5-2 formation

Is it just me or did we not look more comfortable and dangerous in attack when we went to 3 at the back this season with Clyne and Bertrand as wing backs.

I remember at home we played it against Everton, it was one of the most one sided games I have seen us played this season.

All very well playing 4-2-3-1 against the top teams but against the lower teams that sit back I think we should always have two up top.

Yeah and against West Brom away it didn't work at all- which Koeman recognised after 20 odd minutes.

It's a good formation to have at disposal, and I'm gonna let Koeman judge when to use it and when to not.

It didn't work v WBA as it didn't help us going down 1-0 after 60 odd seconds and they then sat back in their shape!

For It to work properly you also need relatively mobile centre halves who are decent on the ball, which Gardos isn't.

It's become a bit of fashionable formation and we've certainly got the full backs to play it, I'm not sure we have the centre halves to play it effectively every week.

I think we have the full backs and with Toby , Jose and yoshida we have the centre halves . Morgan and Big Vic also fit well in the system . The downside is back ups don't fit it, Targett & Gardos and you also need a full preseason to work on it. I like it, because you get 2 up front , without being outnumbered in midfield .

Agree, Gardos was poor as the RCB against WBA. Not seen a centre back struggle so much to find his fullback/wingback, opting everytime to come inside. Saying that Gardos was only in because Toby was out injured.

Looked awkward having a left-footed CB at RCB
