Mowgli Posted 21 April, 2015 Share Posted 21 April, 2015 Better to comment on what you see rather than a knee jerk based on press report. Gallagher had a very quiet first half and apart from the clinical strike had an average game. McQueen stood out as the one closer to the first team but in reality neither are quite ready for moving up yet.
david in sweden Posted 21 April, 2015 Share Posted 21 April, 2015 How can it do any harm, considering how toothless we are currently ? would be a just reward for his efforts, and maybe Seager also. Although IMO Jake Hesketh was MoM.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 21 April, 2015 Share Posted 21 April, 2015 Gallagher has definately beefed up and improved his game, but he was playing against a boys team and not a great one at that. He needs more time at a Championship club on loan to help hone his trade before he's ready for top Prem games.

Gallagher's "quiet first half" Mowgli, was due to playing on the right of the 3 in a 4-2-3-1. When he played up top, he looked much better. No better strike at SMS this seasom, so yes, would have him on the bench. That's the first time I have seen Seager and he looked sharp, so maybe him too. Agree with David, though, that Hesketh was MoM.

Does this mean he will be banned but not for two weeks?? The two categories of match are first team competitive matches and non-first team matches.Premier League, Football League, Conference National, WSL: Red cards in first team competitive matches result in immediate suspension from forthcoming first team competitive matches. Red cards in non-first team matches will take effect from the 14th day following dismissal. Clubs at Step 2 and below: Red cards in first team competitive matches result in suspensions commencing on the 14th day following the match in which the player was sent off. Matthew Le God Posted 21 April, 2015 Share Posted 21 April, 2015 (edited) Who would you drop from the current match day squad? Elia for me. I think its extremely unlikely Koeman will drop a senior player like Elia (if he is fit) to make way for a youngster. We haven't loaned Elia and Djurcic to not even be on the bench when they are available and fit. Edited 21 April, 2015 by Matthew Le God

doddisalegend Posted 21 April, 2015 Share Posted 21 April, 2015 Chances don't come easily in the premier league. While plenty have potential I thought you saw how raw a few were, plenty had poor touches at the wrong moment, lost their footing etc. All things they'll improve at with experience but I'd rather have pelle in the box right now. Mugabi being a case in point looked really good going forward last night, he clearly has some ability, but PL forwards would have a field day against his defending and positioning right now IMO. Batman Posted 21 April, 2015 Share Posted 21 April, 2015 If one of our academy attackers scored twice to win the game at Newcastle they'd be lauded even if they did little else this season. I wouldn't want to sign Elia, but he's better than our kids right now. we must have some dire kids if the standard that Elia produces is better. Batman Posted 21 April, 2015 Share Posted 21 April, 2015 I would rather have seen Hesketh or McQueen involved than Djuricic though, that one seemed like a waste of money in a reasonably strong position. Youth players coming through gives the club and crowd a lift in a way a loan player really can't. likewise, I would rather those players on the bench instead of a very much ineffective Elia. Lighthouse Posted 21 April, 2015 Share Posted 21 April, 2015 well, obviously I rate them better than you as I think they could produce something more than elia can right now But you've only been to watch a them play in youth games this season (You've obviously been to a lot of youth games to form such a strong opinion). Lallana's Left Peg Posted 21 April, 2015 Share Posted 21 April, 2015 At this stage I'd prefer Mane on the wing than Elia, and if Mane is on the wing that only leaves Pelle and Long as our striking options - one is struggling and other isn't really that good in a striking role. So I don't really see the outrage at suggesting Gallagher is a viable option on the bench ahead of Elia.

Bringing Elia on introduces no direct goal threat (he is best used to draw fouls and dead balls from tired defenders, not put ball in himself), Sam G could offer us that plus a goal threat IMHO. I think Elia hasn't been great for us, but he's still a better option than anyone from the Under 21s. They'll have plenty of opportunities in pre-season for example to stake a further place in next season's squad. Lord Duckhunter Posted 21 April, 2015 Share Posted 21 April, 2015 I watched the game on sky and I felt Hesketh & Seager the stand out players ( except Target & Reed who are basically first team squad players) . However, I feel both of them are a bit lightweight at present and not quite ready for the first team. Gallagher looks physically capable and there's no doubt that was a good goal , but whether he's good enough is another thing. Personally I don't go in for all this " give the kids a chance " for the sake of it. One great thing about Ron is that if they're ready and we need them, they play. But he doesn't do it just for the sake of it. If you play 6 or 7 nippers in the cup, they're not really playing first team football, but playing for the U21's in a first team competition. Reed & Targetts first team experience this season has been playing in the first team, with the first team and that's better for their development than just giving them a game because they're young. How do they react to playing with internationals , to bollockings from senior players, to being under pressure for points in front of a full house? The Everton game convinced me that Reed has got what it takes, it was a proper game , under pressure and he did well. Had thast been an FA cup game playing with 6 other nippers, it wouldn' t have told us much.

Hesketh looked completely out of his depth in the half he had and was lucky not to be sent off before getting injured. In a match we lost to BURNLEY. Elia won us a game at Newcastle and only started in 9 games all season: won 4 (Man U away, Newcastle A, QPR A, Palace H) drawn 1 lost 4 (Palace Cup H, Swansea H, Liverpool H, Everton A). Shame on you! how is it knee-jerk to replace a largely ineffective bench player for a top prospect we have in the wings, who have just won the u21 cup? Bar 1 game, Elia has contributed very little. I would rather one of the young players sat on the bench instead of him.
