Twiggy Posted 19 April, 2015 Share Posted 19 April, 2015 (edited) So I come again needing advice. I'm currently at university, and in the holidays I return home and work at the job I've been in for four years. They rehire me each time. Unfortunately, the company has decided to close the store I worked in, terminate my contract and not offer me a transfer or a decent reference. Now the complicated bit, I really need to work over the summer, all the money I earn in the holidays pays for my food and bills (and some rent) over semester time. Unfortunately, its looking like I'm going to need an operation on my knee to fix it, meaning that currently and in the near future my ability to walk is hindered. SO I was wondering if there was any suggestions to jobs that require minimal walking, and will hire a student (who does work hard) on a short term contract. So far I have: House / Pet sitting Call Centre Thats it Edited 19 April, 2015 by Twiggy

Saintandy666 Posted 23 April, 2015 Share Posted 23 April, 2015 It's bloody difficult to get a job just for the summer the last few years. I know I've had family who in the (somewhat distant) past over the summer break just put a CV in with a work agency, and they got odd bits here and there. But the days of ample amounts of that seem to have ended with the recession a few years back - but you never know, might be worth a shot! Have much sympathy on the need money front though if your location is Oxford, so expensive to live in and the maintenance loan is nowhere near enough. SuperMikey Posted 23 April, 2015 Share Posted 23 April, 2015 I grew up near Fleet and managed to get some decent agency work before I went to Uni, worth contacting Manpower in Basingstoke to see if they have anything. Call Centre work sounds incredibly dull (and it is) but it generally pays pretty well and they'll be used to a high turnover of staff so I don't think they'd be too upset if you decided to pack it in after a couple of months.
