Saints Pre-season tournament in Salzburg - 12th to 19th July 2015

I think I just might go for that when dates etc are all settled and published.

I think we're just waiting on Saints to say "we're definitely playing in the tournament on July 11th". There's no other date involved, that's clear from both the Werder information and the Salzburg stuff.

That'll make a nice 5th Anniversary surprise for the wife. :D

Yes this is correct. I'm afraid the OP has made an error. :mcinnes:

Salzburg is a fabulous city. Would love to go but am getting married a few days after.....in Poole! :-)

Anyone who does go, you must try the Augustiner Biergarten. Superb food and wonderful food in a massive garden. Highly recommended!

If our participation is confirmed and folks start planning to go.

Can add Alter Fuchs to the eatery list for those who might be going in Linzergasse just out of the old town.

Both Mercure hotels in town offer good value if your get a deal, as some hotels can be a little expensive closer to the old town both are 10-15 min walk away.

Getting from the Airport to town don't book expensive transfers or take a taxi, walk straight out of the terminal across the car park to the bus stop and take the number 2 bus to Obergingl you can get right into the centre of the city for about €2.50.

Finally on a down day take the Panorama Sound of Music Tour, aside from seeing where the film was made and snippets of trivia you get to visit the countryside around the city, if you get the English lady doing the tour she is very good and makes you wish there had been a sequel if only to find out when the Von Trapp family discover they were walking towards Hitlers Eagles Nest at the end of the film and not Switzerland.

I'd imagine this will be like the 45 min matches we had at the Liebherr tournament in order to complete it in one day. Great place to visit for fans looking to make a weekend of it , I'll be saving my money in case we end up with several Europa league games this year

  • 1 month later...

Still don't think this has been confirmed by Saints, but Red Bull Salzburg put it on their website two months ago it seems. http://www.redbulls.com/en/fc-red-bull-salzburg/news/saison_2014_15/red-bull-salzburg-to-face-big-name-opponents-in-2015-16-pre-season.html

"On Saturday 11 July 2015, there will be a season-opening tournament at the Red Bull Arena. Joining the Red Bulls will be a number of top clubs from the biggest leagues in Europe: SV Werder Bremen, Southampton, the club of former Bulls player Sadio Mané, and FC Valencia."

Purely by coincidence, I'm arriving in Salzburg that very day with my wife.

If the head of marketing is Joseph Groebbuls, start worrying!

Are the shirt sponsors are 'Mengele' by any chance ?

If so, its probably just the South American farm machinery company and pur coincidence.
