Batman Posted 14 April, 2015 Share Posted 14 April, 2015 Said that Clive woodward on the training ground was just plain odd. He compared everything to a rugby game and tried to make throw in more of a set piece like line outs. Said that it all went wrong after strachan left. Said the FA Cup game against united was appalling. Admitted he was not the most gifted player but gave everything when on the pitch. He called out Olivier Bernard and Henri Camera of not really trying when at the club (well, the two worst of that lot)

saintoaks Posted 14 April, 2015 Share Posted 14 April, 2015 Bernard yes; but Camara? Thought he made a useful contribution on the whole. Certainly didn't crap himself at Fratton. He was specifically talking about the Man U cup game, Higginbotham stood up after the game and said some of you in this dressing room are not putting enough effort in. Redknapp said who were they and Danny said Bernard and Camara. Fair play

And Danny said - "you f0cking signed hlaf of them and put this second rate team on the pitch, you tell me". FWIW Camara must have done well for us in the main to be accepted after that awful late tackle on Dodd at Wolves the season before.

Bearsy Posted 14 April, 2015 Share Posted 14 April, 2015 I feel like he was same deadline day signing as prutton. I was so pumped when we made them two signings! Turkish told me they were young, english & hungry + guaranteed to improve

Bad Wolf Posted 14 April, 2015 Share Posted 14 April, 2015 No relegation, no Marcus. Thanks Camara & Bernard Spot on. I'm a big believer in "the butterfly effect", the theory that the smallest thing can have massive consequences and I'm pretty sure it was stated when Markus brought us that one of the reasons for him doing so was that we were a "sleeping giant" so had we not gone into The Championship and then League One, Markus may not have brought us. As for Higgy, I always liked him at Saints. Was never an amazing player but put in the effort and was constantly played out of position. Also, he had a great throw in, free kick and penalty on him. Crazy Diamond Posted 14 April, 2015 Share Posted 14 April, 2015 Didn't like him myself, not just the way he refused a new contract at the start of the 2006/07. Always came across as aloof and a bit of a tośśer. He handed in a transfer request very quickly if memory recalls. I remember when we first went down he looked as if he might belong at that level having looked pretty damn out of place in the Prem. As for Henri Camara not trying, I remember seeing him nearly faint after running so hard. Was he here because he loved the club though? Of course not, he couldn't wait to get away from Celtic where he wasn't getting any games. Bernard was like a plaster to cover up a leaking nuclear reactor... Kingsland Red Posted 14 April, 2015 Share Posted 14 April, 2015 Olivier Bernard probably would have been fine in central midfield . The trouble was he was the left back and just naturally drifted to the middle of the pitch leaving his wing exposed.
Pat from Poole Posted 14 April, 2015 Share Posted 14 April, 2015 Higginbotham was a very average player, but speaks very well as a pundit. I think he could have a decent career as a pundit. He's a million times better than Savage, FFS.

Golden Balls Posted 15 April, 2015 Share Posted 15 April, 2015 Like stoke successfully managed with Delap? Good idea frankly. True, but that's not the context that he mentioned. It was about getting a throw, going down the line and gaining 30 yards territory. I'm sure sir Clive probably had a lot of good ideas but his background in rugby meant the football world would never take them seriously. I like Higgy, as he admits he's not the most talented but always gave it his all. He comes across very well on the radio and gave some great opinions yesterday about the current youth set up Vs YTS. Woodward also believed in practising penalties in a more realistic situation but Higgi didn't think to mention that. Wood ward was brought in because of his knowledge of the winning mentality and sport psychology - not because of his football know how. But then Higgi is/was old school and was brought up cleaning other players boots.

What Higgi said was that would put pressure on the team if the opposition got the ball first and punted it forward. Woodward said they should win the ball. Basic sense if you take a throw in. Don't throw it to the opposition. Not sure Higgi grasped that.
mrfahaji Posted 15 April, 2015 Share Posted 15 April, 2015 The presence of Woodward was also just the story Redknapp needed as to why it didn't work out for him here. I think he said something like "I always felt I was keeping the seat warm for someone else", it really is astounding how the media continue to lap up his never ending excuses and self-promotion. Possibly one of the worst CB I have ever seen for his level (except perhaps for lancashire)
Colinjb Posted 15 April, 2015 Share Posted 15 April, 2015 During the same interview he also discussed how he was effectively told that his first team career at Stoke City was nearing it's end. On the way to a pre-season friendly four of the squad (including Higgy) were put on economy seats rather then business class. He argued the toss, got them all upgraded....... but because the club expected them to be so annoyed that they just wouldn't go, Higgy had to pay for four business class seats out of his own pocket on the way back. Quite harsh, but made me chuckle a bit. Amazing how a club can just be so petty with their players.
