I'll be there. Blackburn have lost some of their better players to their first team squad (as have we) but it's free to get in so no reason not to fight through the rush hour traffic from Manchester to get up there.

Can you livestream with your telephone?

It doesn't seem as though there is even as much as a YouTube stream for the first leg tonight. I know Blackburn is an insular dump in a time warp but I would've thought there would be some way to view this.

Am I wrong?

Won't saints do a live stream on youtube?

Afraid we're not allowed to stream the game on YouTube. #saintsfc

Just the 7 players with Premier League experience in the team then? Feels like doping when we actually pick something resembling an U-21s team.

Though obviously with Gazza in sticks they'll only have to shoot 3 times and we'll be in trouble. :D

Gazzaniga, McCarthy, Reed, Targett, Hesketh, Seager and Gallagher.

Plus McQueen has a Cup appearance.

Only seen one of the defence but rest of the team does look strong, especially the 3 central midfielders. Is Gallagher really being played wide these days? Looked raw but very much a striker. Really think he could do with a loan move and play regularly in the Championship or something.

noticed in the Suns transfer gossip that wolves were thinking about bidding for Gallagher.

Everton. Dammit. EIGHT players then. :D

I was actually unaware of this as I left when Yoshida's goal went in because I needed to get to South Wales by 7pm. That's my excuse anyway.

Seen Gallagher play wide a couple of times for the U21's now and to be fair, the position suits him quite well. He can pick up the ball in nice areas with plenty of room to maneuvre, bring the ball in and have Seager ahead of him to make a run in behind. Not sure it'd translate to the first team but he seems to be playing more intelligently in that position, having to think more about where he's going, where the ball's going and where the players around him are going.

Back to the game, seems from Twitter that we've had a lot of chances in the second half but Blackburn are holding out. Hopefully can put one of them away and crush them at SMS.

He's always looked great for the U21s, it's translating that into looking great in the Premier League.

True, it's a huge step up for him and for players playing U21 football in general tbh because the standard is pretty poor. I know we're not huge fans of loaning players out but I think a season in the Championship next year would do him the world of good and help him to kick on to the next level.

Yeah, big difference between being the best striker at scoring goals against U21 defenders who aren't good enough to get in the first team or go on loan to a decent lower league club and scoring against some of the top defenders in the world, and the likes of Wes Brown and Lovren.

Just back from the game. You missed nothing. It was a turgid affair on a horrible pitch. Lots of effort, but a complete lack of quality in the final third from both teams. No disrespect intended, but Blackburn did a good job bringing the game down to their level - very physical, very meat and two veg approach to playing the game. We stood up well to the physicality but poor Jake Hesketh was getting thrown around like a rag doll.

Defended well (not that we had anything special to contend with) but in the final third we lacked cohesion and belief. Martin Hunter was doing his nut in several times, especially in the second half. We looked better when Sinclair and Sims came on for Gallagher (who had an absolute nightmare which included TWO air shots) and McQueen. But that may also be because Blackburn started to tire and there was more space on the pitch.

On the better pitch we should have more than enough to put them away.

Very impressed with Will Wood who was my Saints man of the match. Targett also performed very well. Harrison Reed has developed a bit of a mouth on him and tried to manage the game and Ref and I don't think it suits him.

Agree with LLP. Blackburn were functional but didn't look as though they had anything more to add to their game but when it opened up it looked as though we did. The first hour or so was very even though.

Thought the number 4, Gape, actually looked pretty good and Hesketh still looks like a 12 year old. Mugabi looked ok at defending but doesn't offer any threat in an attacking sense and if Will Wood puts on more weight and learns to kick a ball cleaner and better ( a lot of sliced kicks from our lot) he does look very capable.

Was interesting to see how they marked the man and we marked the space/ball and how Seager found it so difficult because he always had too much attention from their defenders although as it opened up and he came deep he got better.

McQueen and Gallagher should have offered a lot more I thought.

Only if we win apparently

Thinking about going to this, bit of a trek from Weymouth for essentially a reserve cup final though. I'd probably be more inclined if it was U18s. Although I guess we need to change the mentality of looking at it as a reserve team.

How many over 21s are we allowed to play? Maybe chuck Pelle in for a laugh?

Or, what about Wanyama.... Does his ban apply to U21 games too....?

Wanyama's ban would apply to 5 a sides at Goals if he was contractually able to play in them, never mind U21 Cup Finals.

Seriously!?

I haven't actually checked, but others have said so.

Edit: I have checked, and yep, programme starts 18:45 (it's a 7pm kick off) and it's on Sky Sports 1.
