Can we catch city ?

Depends really. If City carry on playing this poorly for a few more games and Pelle's goal gets his mojo back then we could at least go there on the final day with 2 points of them and make things interesting.

I don't think we're really playing well enough to do it but it's feasible.

Genuine question, but where would we gain the most prize money; a) getting spanked in the Champions League play off or, b) going straight into the Europa League group phase?

I know we might get through the qualifying round, but there are some bloody strong teams that have to go through that.

It's 100% down to Pelle and Tadic, if they refer their form it's doable if not no

And Liverpool. They are a game in hand, two points behind, with Newcastle (quaking boots and all that) to play.

I think if nothing else, it's going to be a really exciting end to the season. We are definitely still in it, if you were to ask Pellegrini after this match (if they lose) then yes, he would say we're a threat. But we're not likely to do it. But as Pastor says, Pelle and Tadic's respective forms will be crucial. If we end the season how we started... then who knows :D

Well Option A anyday as even if we get 'spanked' in the play offs- we go into Europa League group stage

If you are really optimistic then why not ask if we can catch United? After this victory vs City, they will be 9 points ahead. Their remaining fixtures...

Chelsea (A)

Everton (A)

WBA (H)

Palace (A)

Arsenal (H)

Hull (A)

Would need us to go on a run, and them to lose against Chelsea and Arsenal (very possible), Palace (not unrealistic), Everton (who knows which team is going to turn up) as I doubt they would lose against Hull or WBA. Overly optimistic but funnier things have happened :)

Right, time for a lie down!

But City have

WHU (H)

Villa (H)

Spuds (A)

QPR (H)

Swansea (A)

us (H)

In reality, who is going to give them problems? Spuds might but depends who turns up on the day. Swansea can hold their own, Villa are resurgent (maybe!), QPR fighting for their lives. Us? I don't think so. But you never know.

on today's evidence, **** yeah. I rate them splitting a win and loss between WH and Villa, drawing QPR, winning at nothing-to-play-for Swansea. If we can match their result v. Tottenham, we can still afford one more draw or loss out of the other four, and we are playing for the champions league on the last day of the season.

Assuming Citeh lose....

It's not so much Citeh as our own form which is the biggest problem. We've been pretty flat and the goals have been hard to come by.

If we can get our mojo back and put a run together then we are back in the mix but will we?

We only need to be within 2 points of them to be able to take it to the last day, that's us getting 3 more than them over 5 games - deffo doable but can we get that run going?

So you feel that Spurs (below us in the league) could trouble them; Swansea (below us in the league) could cause them trouble; Villa (below us in the league) could cause them trouble; QPR (below us in the league) could turn them over but Not us? surely we are the most likely of all the aforementioned teams.

They'll scrape a few results together now. Horrible, but them winning today would have given us a sniff. United have handled their big run of fixtures brilliantly.

What with the mess we're in , the downward spiral we're on we never had a chance did we.

Pretty amazing to be talking about this with 6 games to go. We'd pretty much have to win our next 5 to give ourselves the chance on the final day, and we're not playing well enough for that sort of thing IMO. Still, if we can run city close then we've got a great chance of finishing ahead of Spurs and/or Liverpool

I think you'll find I've been very accurate in the past.

Happy to say I wasn't accurate this time.

Months and months of 'just you wait, I've got something to tell you, when you hear your eyes will water'

Then when you finally told us you were right, everyone's eyes were watering, laughing at you.

As long as we secure Europa, I'll be happy. Small team mentality perhaps but it will be a big step forward for the club and give fans the chance to travel to Europe. Reaching the Champions League would be dreamland, especially as it means finishing above "big clubs", but I can't see it happening. That said I would love to at least be still in the running in a few games time, properly but the wind up the skirt of the teams that are traditionally known as "bigger" than us.

Children stop it, please

I'm just excited that with 6 games to go we are even talking about the possibility of catching City for 4th place without it being some weird dream.

Which we won't. Realistically

Form changes, stop being such a f*cking miserable b*stard.

I agree, that we will not win all our remaining games. If we do it will be a club top flight record of winning 7 games on the spin. We have only won 6 on the spin twice! Something to aim for, but we will not!

Of course I don't think we will - I've been supporting Saints for the best part of 40 years and have an in built self-deprecating pessimism.

Villa (even at home), and visits to Spurs and Swansea could all take points off them. We only need to win one more than them over the next 5 matches to go there with the chance to beat them to come 4th (assuming Liverpool and Spurs finish below us).

If we can win TWO more than them we might even go there only needing a draw.
