Kelvin Davis

I wouldn't bother trying to explain the difference between a good or bad goalkeeper on here... Most struggle with the concept that Forster is actually terribly, embarrassingly average. His deficiencies are superbly masked by the defensive strength in front of him, though he still finds time almost every game to f**k something up.

Hence he's got more League One attributes than Prem.

You might want have a word with Koeman, he doesn't seem to agree, but what would he know

That is harsh Crabby. If he swept and came for the ball he would be one of the top in the world.Until he learns how to dominate the area there will be question marks over him

Being 6ft 7 means he doesn't have to make those decisions as early as many - instead of having to time a jump he has, on many occasions, just ambled out and caught the ball. No-one seems to notice the number of times he does this sort of thing in positions other keepers would be having problems with. The flipside of that is that he doesn't get down as quickly. I would argue the point on his speed off his line, he made one mistake this season and fixed it the following match by not doing the same thing and making a save instead. To say a fit Forster wouldn't have got to Fonte's dodgy backpass is as arguable as saying 40 year old Kelvin wouldn't have - and HE made it.

Nonsense. Nothing to do with being deceived by his height. It's pretty clear that Forster isn't as dominant from crosses as you would expect from a top-class keeper and is often rooted on his line.

That's incredibly harsh.

Forster is still a very young keeper and in line with club policy he was recruited for his huge potential to develop into an outstanding (possibly England) keeper. Of course he is not nearly the finished article yet but I'd have thought it was clear he has the makings of an impressive goalkeeper. Perhaps if he was an outfield player (a la Ward Prowse, Mane, Reed) people would be more prepared to allow him the time he needs to develop? Personally I think it's a good thing that he can learn his trade behind a top back four and still conceed less goals that any other team - sure, despite a few cock ups along the way.

Oh and yes - hats off to Super Kelv. Great pro and rightly respected by supporters.

It's been said in many, many threads over the years and will continue to be said again and again, if an outfield player makes a mistake, it usually doesn't end up as a goal but when a keeper makes a mistake......well, that is the neature of the beast, isn't it. I think the stats speak for themselves currently, we have a great defensive TEAM, made up of top class defenders and a top class keeper in Forster. I am pleased we have such a young and talented keeper as 1st choice. He is only going to get better.

As for Davis, I'm pleased as punch that he's back in the side. You know he will not let us down and will show his commitment to this club in the final games of the season. I'd rather have him playing than an untried youth team keeper he might struggle. Kelvin is doing his bit for the squad and has so far, not put a foot wrong. I'm just pleased that we're still in with a shout for something as the end of the season approaches and we are not just seeing out the season with nothing to play for. Very exciting season that I'm enjoying very much, many more highs than lows for a change!

Always was a quality keeper in my opinion. Will do us proud for the rest of the season. I'm glad he's playing for us.

Agreed. Kelvin is quality & a Saint through and through. I'm too glad he is playing for us. He stuck with us (when he could of gone to West Ham) before the takeover speaks volumes of him as a person. Super Kelvin Davis!!

It's also pretty clear that he collects plenty of crosses despite rarely leaving the ground or his six yard box. It's a weakness, but nothing like the weakness it would be if he wasn't 6ft 7.

He's got bloody long legs and should use them to sweep through balls. Watch how De Gea and the Chelsea keeper does. A ball splits our defence or a back pass is a little light and there Iam thinking FF will be there in a second, in a second ,in asecond......

I don't like over criticising our players but Forster really needs to be decisive and be at the edge of his box ready to clear .

Forsters not great at coming off his line but is a good Premier League keeper who's just turned 27. The best keepers in the prem I can remember bar Cech, Courtious and De Gea (who all cost a huge amount for a GK) don't get to their best till they're about 35 plus. Whatever his ability now he is going to get much, much better. Top GK coach on our books as well is going to help.
