Saint-Armstrong Posted 9 April, 2015 Share Posted 9 April, 2015 Okay so here's the brief... Looking for a holiday for three, possibly four of us - group of friends. We've been looking at Dubrovnik, and more widely, Croatia. Not looking for a ****-up 'lads holiday'. Anyone with any experiences of Croatia or any other suggestions to look into? Criteria: Decent beach(es), stuff to keep you busy, relaxing, some nice bars/places to eat. Fire away... (and thanks to those who reply!)
Lighthouse Posted 9 April, 2015 Share Posted 9 April, 2015 Have a look at the areas around Split. I've never been there as such but I've seen the area a lot and it looks amazing. Hvar is supposed to be nice but apparently parts of it are a bit touristy.
CylonKing Posted 10 April, 2015 Share Posted 10 April, 2015 Did a camping trip to Croatia a few years ago, was great fun and very easy to get around on buses. We stuck to the South of the country, not going any further North than Trogir which is not far away from Split. Trogir is a lovely harbour town with some decent restaurants. Our campsite was out of town with a lovely pebbly beach. I think the majority of beaches in Croatia are pebbly. Split is a great base to get to the islands, we enjoyed Hvar, another nice harbour town but found peace, quiet and some shade in Stari Grad. It was a wonderful place. Not much to do but relax really. Dubrovnik and Cavtat to the South are also well worth staying at. Great places to walk around, especially the walk around the top of the old town wall in Dubrovnik though it is steep in some places. Pizza in Croatia is amazing, has influences from Italy (Obviously) but a fraction of the cost. As mentioned, we used buses to get around and were camping. All the campsites had great facilities and loads of space. In Split we got an apartment due to the lack of camping options and found this to be very easy from the tourist office. While we were there in July, it was roasting hot and it did not cool down. In a tent, it was unbearable but was fine in the apartment and in Stari Grad where there was shade. I can highly recommend Croatia, we loved it!
Marsdinho Posted 10 April, 2015 Share Posted 10 April, 2015 Spent a week in Dubrovnik and a week on an island just off it called Mljet, both were really great places to visit. They both tick all your boxes....apart from one....there is a limited number of decent beaches in the area in general as the coastline is very rocky. You can find them (there are 2 in dubrovnik) but don't expect miles of golden sand. Plenty of stuff to do and look at.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 10 April, 2015 Share Posted 10 April, 2015 Stayed in Dubrovnik for just over a week couple of years ago. It is really nice, but thought we could probably have done with staying there for less time and going somewhere else as well. Have a hunt for the 2 Büza bars on the outside of the city walls, facing the sea. You can do trips to Montenegro as well, which is a gorgeous part of the world. It's pricier than you would think as well.
