Talks are ongoing between the two clubs with Southampton hoping that United will meet their asking price of £25 million for the French international, who has also attracted interest from Arsenal and, in the past, Tottenham Hotspur. Feyenoord’s Jordy Clasie and Anderlecht’s Dennis Praet are the two players identified by Southampton, who fear they may lose out if United continue to delay formally bidding for Schneiderlin.

Southampton know that Zenit St Petersburg are interested in Praet, 21, should they, as expected, sell fellow Belgium international Alex Witsel to AC Milan this week. The Premier League club are also concerned that rivals may move quickly to sign Clasie who would appear to be their preferred choice to take over from Schneiderlin.

He sounds class' date=' but not exactly a like for like replacement for Morgan.[/quote']

From the info available (mainly through links provided by fellow posters), the options or links are:

Attacking midfield : Praet, Wijnaldum, Cabaye

Defensive MF : Imbula or Gueye,

Clasie appears to be considered more of a defensive mf, although I've also read somewhere he's quite a creative player, so perhaps could adapt to either role. No doubt one of our Feyenoord posters might be able to clarify.

Krychowiak - an article this wek said he was only interested in CL football.Obviously we're a year too late to provide him the 'stepping stone' that some aspiring players might view us as.

Of the AMF, Praet looks an exciting prospect, but we probably need a bit more experience as well, so one of the other two might be prefereable. For DMF, don't know enough about either to comment.

Knowing us, we'll probably bring someone else in, not previously or seriously considered on here (Dutch posters said we should go for Van Ginkel for example.).

So we're looking for three midfielders then?

It sounds like Clasie/Imbula and then Gueye/Benassi for defensive midfield.

Then one of Cabaye/Praet for the attacking midfield position.

If we get those and Toby we'll be looking very strong.

We'll find out if West Ham are interested when we read about it in one of Jack Sullivan's 'insider' articles on the West Ham website.

That is so amateur hour. I'm surprised the club's and agents allow it. I'd hate one of the Libeheer's to do a similar thing.

West Ham are treading on dangerous ground, I think. It'll be very interesting to see how they do. They're looking (apparently) to ship out the dependable's such as Noble, Dowling etc and they're replacing them with the likes of Payet and Obaing. To me, that's a bit risky. You're replacing tried and tested PL players with foreigners. Just like they did with the manager. It may work out just fine, but is it a risk they needed to take just now? Why not steady the ship, carry on consolidating, bank the mega TV deal and then move to the stadium and invest. They seem to be gambling before they have anything to gamble with.

I remember being impressed with Newcastles signings last summer. Cabella, Riveillre - but they did nothing, zilch. Or when Norwich signed Fer and Ricky Whatshisnamewinkel.

They're going after all these ''apparent'' big names, but forgetting what got them to this position in the first place.

It would be a good laugh to see them in their new stadium in the NPC.

Yeah, I hate Downing, but even I thought he was actually decent last year. Dangerous ground for them, for sure.

My claim to shame last season was Hull- I actually thought they did good business last summer.

I see it's been revealed that Fabian Delph has a clause in his contract stating he can leave Villa if they receive an £8 million bid, but only for a team in European competition. Worth a stab at that price?

Clasie is a defensive midfielder, he's creative in the way that he is able to deliver great passes and "through balls" I believe it's called in English. Feyenoord was able to dominate the games against Ajax and PSV this last season because Clasie played great with many interceptions, keeping the opponents under pressure.

On the other hand, he wasn't able to take the team by the hand in the last ten games or so when Feyenoord needed just three points to qualify for the Uefa League due to his fitness. He's no box-to-box player, he seldomly appears in the opponents box and therefore scores far too less goals for a midfielder, even a defensive midfielder with his potential should score a minimum of 5 goals in the Eredivisie.

As I said elsewhere, I do have have my doubts that Clasie is physically fit for the PL. It looks like Koeman is not sure either because he's looking for other options too (I can't believe Koeman told Clasie that he's not the only option just to get the asking price of Feyenoord down...) but when he does make the move to Southampton you better put him in the gym for a couple of months to get some muscles... :)

GUEYE MOVE IN JEOPARDY?

Lille midfielder Idrissa Gueye is set to sign for Marseille tomorrow, according to Sky sources.

However, we also understand a Premier League club may well look to come in at the last minute and scupper the deal to try to bring him to England.

Earlier this week, the Daily Express linked Southampton with the midfielder as Ronald Koeman lines up possible replacements for Morgan Schneiderlin, should he join Manchester United.

We’ll have to keep an eye on that one tomorrow.

Lille trying to give us the hurry up maybe? Either that or we aren't interested

Think that Sky report is pretty much confirming what @GFN_France tweeted a couple of weeks ago:

Marseille have entered the race to sign Lille midfielder Idrissa Gueye, who has an offer from Southampton, according to France Football.

Marseille could only finance deal in the event of Giannelli Imbula sale. Southampton waiting for Schneiderlin exit to commit to €10m deal.

Arsenal also interested in Idrissa Gueye, but only as a fallback option, according to France Football.
