Doesn't always get it wrong but he does often enough. Dropping Mané against Liverpool, signing Elia etc etc etc.

He's not perfect prefer Pochettino myself.

you seriously prefer poch to koeman?

I wouldn't go as far as saying I prefer Pochettino. But Koeman does not appear very tactically savvy .. we had a good system at the start of the season but he has shown a dramatic lack of flexibility this second half. Hopefully he can learn from that. People have found out how to play us - get the goal and defend. Let us have the ball no problem, we don't shoot much. We don't mix it up much coming forwards. We need another system for times like today.

Toothless in the final third once again and once again our decision not to get a striker in the window has well and truly shown again. Top 4 probably not but we will nevet ever get a better chanc. Been a great season though but just a few things we should have built upon. Everton were pretty poor though but using an excuse that we never get anything there doesn't cut it.

Absolutely spot on!

yeah I have no idea why other teams don't adopt the tactic of "get the goal and defend". Seems so simple....oh!

This, our lack of ambition has cost us. Still a great season, just have to hope Liverpool or arsenal do the job in the fa cup so we can get Europa.

Yep, preferred the style even though sometimes it went tits up, for me Koeman's systems are staid and oft exploitable, plus he has binkies, don't ever like managers' binkies. If a player is right out of form you've got to drop him and use whatever else you have.

I cannot believe some people here are starting to turn on Koeman !

what the **** is the matter with you people ?

We only ever win at Everton once in a blue moon, today came as no surprise to me.

Koeman has been marvellous for this club. If you seriously can't see that go and support Chelsea ffs.

Why is it lack of ambition? Who would we sign? You can't just say 'sign a goalscorer' without saying who and why they'd be for sale in January. We had to pay a lot for long. We wouldn't have got Ings or Austin for that, last summer or in January. So who?

Clearly if we had a Sturridge, Suarez or Costa we'd be in the top 4 but that's why these players go for huge money. If we'd had Rodriguez of last year I'm sure we'd be 4th right now, but these things happen.

I dont think its so much about the striker, there aren't many out there. What concerns me is signing too many attacking mids or wide players who aren't goalscorers. You can't have that many players unlikely to score in the same side. Djuricic and Elia haven't yet shown they can do it regularly in their careers and don't seem worth signing IMO. Mane has chipped in, tadic should score more. But clearly we need to add goals all over.

There's a positive though. Many teams not scoring need to change their style of play, system etc. We do create chances, we get 'unlucky' as we're not clinical enough, but I do think it's just about the addition of one of two players.

We needed backup for Pelle to stand any chance of top 4, the club will have multiple targets (we're supposed to have a world class scouting system). If we were serious about CL football we should have pushed the boat out.

It was always a bit of a pipe dream anyway, I dont blame the club for not forking out the cash. I Will be more than happy if we get Europa.

We will end 7th. You all know this right? I would say that is about right for us as well. If we lose 7th spot then something has seriously gone wrong!

We have a terrible record at Goodison, but not all is lost, a very winnable game next weekend.

When we went 1 down today, I said to the missus, we will not let in anymore today, just a matter if we can score and get something from the game.

We are excellent at the back. Very strange to get used to this as a Saints fan.

Just need Pelle to get his confidence back and I think we will start banging them in. Next Saturday all will come good against a free fall Hull side.

We looked so much more creative in the first half against Chelsea, I'm shocked he hasn't kept Long and Mané up front. And Tadíc has to play for me, even if he's off form we don't have another player able to pick that final pass.

Thought we were pretty good today, looked dangerous at times, Tim Howard pulls off an absoute worldy from Pelle, that's the difference between a loss and a point.

We lost today because the defending was poor for their goal, got caught ball watching. They didn't trouble us otherwise, shouldn't forget that this is Everton away we are talking about too!

Think we will finish 5th and that is ****ing unbelievable!! Seriously!!!

Bloody awful, we didn't look like we could fashion a goal even if the other lot hadn't turned up. Our attack... what attack you may well ask? Even our defending was all over the place at times. Nobody deserves credit for this inept performance.

For goodness sake they all knew we had to win every game to have any chance of European football and they were handed a golden opportunity on a plate when the Scousers got stuffed by the Arse beforehand?

Frankly our attack was useless today and not for the first time this year. Let's hope some of them move on but of course it will be the players we c an ill afford to lose who will move on and we'll still be stuck with the clueless ones next year.

There was one hell of a meltdown in this house.

Not sure Europa is a good thing anyway as Martinez said yesterday , it has cocked up their league form due to the extra games/pressure .

Poch was accused of having a favourite few as well (binkies ?) so no change there and we had Arsenalitis under Poch as well ie ball forward to 18 yd line then dink it around until we missed / gave it away !

Some of the reaction on here is an absolute joke, proper modern day football fan ******s.

We went to Goodison, played better than a decent Everton side, just missed out on going 5th in the Prem in April. Have a word with yourselves. We've got a fantastic side, the best in a generation, enjoy it.

Best post on here today. How did some of these people cope when we were minus 10 points in the first division and having someone like Ronald Koeman as our manager was pure fantasy !

In all fairness, they're very different emotions. Being in L1 on minus 10 raises no hopes - disappointment is already factored in. Any success is then a pleasant surprise. Being on cusp of something pretty extraordinary does raise hopes with the invariable brutal comedown. If it leads to recriminations, they're rash and impetuous but ultimately short-lived, giving way to the bigger picture. Has very little to do with the mindset of the modern fan or any other patronising horse****.

Ellias was very poor today. At times we got into some good positions, but only put in one half decent cross, the one Howard made the worldie from form Pelle. Other than that, and the JWP long and Free kick , that was it really.

Please Mr Reed can you get us a proper Number 10. Someone to score goals, create goals and also take free kicks and corners. However much everyone likes JWP and Davis there are no stats that suggest that they are remotely suited to that position, unless you want them to do a job, like JWP marking Carrick at Old Trafford.

Just back from the match. It looked like JWP was marking Barry today, he certainly stopped Barry getting much possession. We must have had 65% possession until the final 15 minutes when we seemed to lose our way sfter we changed the system in order to chase the game. Certainly did not deserve to lose, two saves from Howard saved them. Similar in a way to the Burnley defeat earlier in the season.

We looked too stretched when 3 up front; Mane has to play more central/closer to Pelle, that is our issue right now, as Long and Elia cannot beat a man or deliver a cross into poor old GP who always has one or two CBs up his rear and no team mate nearby! Tadic and or Davis in behind; no one seems to want to drive directly at a defence or take them on, so frustrating.

Says something when a team/Club like Everton get one nil up and then sit back deep and deny us space.

A must win game lost. Need to beat Hull now next week & hope Burnley do us a favour tomorrow.

Must win? Top four was gone after February and we today's result will not stop is finishing in the Europa spots.

Long trip to see a fairly poor performance. I think we need to play more of a 4231 than 433 with Tadic behind Long, Mane has to start every week as well.

How many people think Europa league wouldn't be a good thing?

If we don't make it now, it will be a huge disappointment. We might have a rubbish season next year anyway. Why turn down progress as a club? The only way this club grows is European football and those chances will not come round easily.

We'd have some brilliant away trips, be able to attract better players and bring in more money. Yet that's not worth it because we might slip down the league a bit? I'd gladly take boring mid table obscurity and a Europa league run.

Exactly, I'm saving up to take me and my two boys to Latvia or wherever we end up for a couple of days next year. I don't get people who think "screw that, we need to perform better at the Hawthorns next season"

If we get there, enjoy the Europa league ride, wherever it takes us, because you never know when we'll be in Europe again

+1

Europa League would be massive for this club - even if it's not as illustrious as CL it's continental football. Remember when we all thought Cortese was mental for saying we'd have European football in 5 years? This is year 6. We've missed some opportunities this season (today being one of them) but we're still set for our best ever season in the Prem with the promise of European football next season to look forward to!

Amid all the gloom and teeth gnashing one thing we have to be grateful for is the continuing quality of our "back 6". One particular moment involving Bertrand covering for Toby who had been nutmegged inside the box (McCarthy?) remains one of the highlights for me. I was worried about how Kelvin would go but he really didn't have a save to make and he had little chance with the goal.

Everton fans are literally the worst i've ever encountered, only heard them three times throughout the match and even then it was just barely.

Pelle was f*cking awful, i'm slowly getting more and more convinced he just isn't good enough.

Not sure why Elia is getting slated, he looked dangerous in the first half.

We need to move the ball quicker! So many times a player looks up, sees Bertrand/Clyne free on the wing and slowly turns, ambles and rolls it out to them. Get it out there as quick as possible instead of letting the opposition get themselves set!

Exactly. who would have come and signed for us in the summer? No-one as even us Saints supporters thought we would struggle. Next season will be different (fingers crossed) and we may attract some more prolific strikers.

What I mean is, 1 goal is enough. We've lost by one goal far too many times.

We have also won by one goal too many times. In fact, Premier League games are usually won by a single goal, or drawn. (Did I need that comma?)

I'm looking forward to the Europa league, but we will never have a better chance of gatecrashing the top 4. We can go on about having a meltdown etc. but it's just massively frustrating how we've fallen off the pace. Going back to new year, it was looking good for us. In the game against Arsenal, we ripped them to pieces then got a great result at Old Trafford. All that hard work was undone in the games against Swansea and West Ham; those two games killed our season. It nakes it worse that we dominated both games, yet failed to score. Suddenly we looked clueless in front of goal and it's been the same ever since. I can accept we are probably the 7th best side in the league, but to get in the position we were to where we are now is hard to take. It's a game of fine margins; we are only a top class striker away from being in 3rd/4th, but unfortunately they are hard to come by for a club like us. I'm sure we have someone lined up for the summer. I don't blame Pelle or the club, it's just one of those things.

I'm not expecting a good league finish next season, would much rather we go for it in the cups.

It's been a good season, but it could have been great. Very much a case of 'what if'. We just need to pick ourselves up now. Really hoping Pelle can start finding the back of the net, genuinely feel for the guy as it's just not happened for him.
