played well in parts. decent up till we get to the final 3rd. even then, we put some balls in the area.

Vic my saints MoM

Tadic good when came on

JWP did well

Not sure why we would keep Elia. Very very poor

Djuricic seems a tad pointless too

Pelle was very crap. We really would be better with him as an option on the bench. Just a crap lone striker

Top 4 dream ended most likely with that result.

One of those games where 1st goal was important and we conceded a very soft one. Everton are a decent team despite their current league position.

First half we looked more threatening. Pelle should have done better(though it was a nice save by Howard) and JWP needs to get his free kicks on target.

2nd half we completely ran out of ideas. Was there even a shot on target.

Struggling to see how Pelle deserves his place in the starting line up currently.

Hopefully next week davis will be back and it'll be Tadic, Mane, Long up top.

Toothless in the final third once again and once again our decision not to get a striker in the window has well and truly shown again. Top 4 probably not but we will nevet ever get a better chanc. Been a great season though but just a few things we should have built upon. Everton were pretty poor though but using an excuse that we never get anything there doesn't cut it.

Ellias was very poor today. At times we got into some good positions, but only put in one half decent cross, the one Howard made the worldie from form Pelle. Other than that, and the JWP long and Free kick , that was it really.

Please Mr Reed can you get us a proper Number 10. Someone to score goals, create goals and also take free kicks and corners. However much everyone likes JWP and Davis there are no stats that suggest that they are remotely suited to that position, unless you want them to do a job, like JWP marking Carrick at Old Trafford.

Elia is pointless. I don't see what he does. He doesn't seem to be able to beat a player, doesn't seem too quick, can't cross. Waste of a place

If we buy him, someone needs shooting. He's trash.

We've been lacking in ideas and confidence up front for a couple of months now. Transition into attack is so slow unless we're hoofing it at Pelle, and there's no confidence in our decision-making. The player on the ball seems to want time to assess every option before making a pass, which is tolerable when trying not to surrender cheap possession in the middle of the pitch, but counter-productive in attack.

Pelle isn't playing well, and if he weren't on the pitch we'd probably play with a bit more discipline and play fewer long balls, but he isn't the real problem. We seem to be creating only one or two genuine scoring chances per game, which even the very best strikers are only going to convert at a rate of about 1 in 3. So unless we'd gone out in January and acquired an exceptional striker who both created and finished his own chances, we'd still be in exactly the same place, toiling away in possession but creating only scraps.

Thought Vic looked tremendous in the first half. Defensively we looked solid, and we at least stepped it up in the second half. That's it though. That's the end of the positive elements.

I still don't understand why Long gets a game ahead of Mane or why Ward Prowse gets in the side right.

Will,we ever win at Everton?

Really struggle to find a MOM today - Tim Howard?

We really are poor ATM. No goal threat at all.

The number of misplaced passes was shocking, and we clearly weren't bothered about pressing.

Didn't play it out from the back once; far too many hoofs.

Elia kept losing the ball, and the midfield were not good.

Pellé's holdup play was poor, as were our corners.

I'd rather see Long on the end of crosses than making them.

One of our poorest performances for me.

The only two of our attacking players I'd keep if it was in my hands would be tadic and mane, I'd replace the rest. Long works hard but has an abysmal record and isn't a striker at the level the club is aspiring too, pelle has had all the chances in the world but is actually getting worse, djuricic and Elia can't see the point of keeping on at the moment.

It's not just pelle but he doesn't help. None of the midfielders are making runs into box either.

I didn't see any of today's game, been at work. But got to say, Pellè for a while now doesn't seem to have had any runners to feed the ball to. Its all very well talking about holdup play, but if nobody's making those runs, what's the point?

if you've watched most of our recent games then you've basically watched that match already. Opposition attempts counterattacks to sneak a goal then puts all bodies behind the ball. Saints dominate possession passing it in a semi circle around the oppositions 11 men. Sometimes it gets hoofed to pelle who invariably chests it into the path of an opposition player, long runs around like a madman but rarely in a constructive way. We hit the post or narrowly miss with the 3 obligatory chances we get in the game.

But hey where are all those smart arses now crowing about how Pelle has come good. The stats don't lie he is a very poor striker

He was an average striker before he came and now he is way below average. Shane Long was never top drawer and sure ain't now

If your two main strikers are at best average you will struggle to make top six

To put it simply Pelle is **** poor, the stats prove that

Sorry but completely wrong. Couldn't be more wrong if you tried I'm afraid.

Here is the problem. Pelle is imobile! He relies on every one else to make the runs whilst he stands still with back to goal. Ok he sometimes lays the ball off but then again doesn't bust a gut to move defenders around or get into scoring positions.

Mane up the middle with Long has looked better. This continuous Pelle ****fest with Koeman is holding us back.....

Koeman is not learning the lessons......

Mr back to goal Pelle - time is up....

I'm not sure Pelle is poor, but it's certainly been a season of two halves for him. If anything Getting Djuricic and Elia in has harmed us as we keep changing the am 3 every week and it isn't working. We never play well if Davis isn't playing, he's the only one who can link our def mid with the attackers. We were unlucky to lose today and a draw would have been a decent result - we do need a massive rethink on set pieces and corners though, we are getting to the stage where we may as well just give the ball to the gk rather than bother slinging it in for him to punch or the centre half to head out. I agree with others on the striker front - we've spent 45m on strikers currently on our books but JRod aside they are average or poor. Our record in buying strikers recently is not good so let's hope we produce (and hold onto) one.

Southampton FC @SouthamptonFC

#SaintsFC boss @RonaldKoeman on today's defeat: "I'm disappointed with the result but not about the performance of the team."

"I think we played on a good level, we had some good chances in the first half and we received an unlucky goal." #saintsfc

"That made it more difficult but we still did everything and tried everything until the last second but it wasn't enough." #saintsfc

"After the 1-0 we kept our organisation on the pitch and we tried everything to score the goal. They defended very well." #saintsfc

"The frustration is all about if you get chances and don't score. We deserved more today but that's football." #saintsfc

"I'm proud of what the players showed today and the support of the fans. We keep going." #saintsfc

I hate to break it to you, but he's played in 7 of our last 9 games, during which we've generally been woeful in attack. If you think Steven Davis is the answer to our problems in attack, you're asking the wrong question (though I'll admit, 2nd half against Burnley he had his best 45 minutes since the 2nd half against Everyone at home).

I thought we were slightly better than Everton. Normally I would be Quite Pleased with that, especially at Goodison, but today felt like Everton was there for the taking + we could've Done Better. They was Pretty Garbage

I dont think he is the answer no, but I do think we are worse without him and yet to see anything to convince me otherwise. Not sure what that says about those who play when he doesn't mind........

It tells me that Prowse is not yet quite good enough, as he is the one that often replaces him.

Shame the season has ended like this. We should just about scrape 7th, can't see us winning more than a couple more games at best. Still, a great achievement for a side whose main striker hasn't scored this year. We need to start planning for the Europa League now.
