Essruu Posted 30 December, 2008 Share Posted 30 December, 2008 Nob taxi drivers like Essruu use it as an excuse to whack their fares up as well. a) The council sets the tariffs. b) The council have gradually taken away the increased tariff period over the last few years. Up until 2006, Southampton City Council's New Year's 'Tariff 4' ran from 8pm on NYE until 6am on 2nd Jan. Now it is 11pm NYE until 6am on 1st Jan. That means those of us who choose to work NYE now have just 7hrs of Tariff 4 (which is double the daytime rate, NOT double the night rate as some think). And that means having to work 11pm until 6am. How much would YOU expect to be paid to spend NYE working, not having a drink and away from your family, friends and loved ones to ferry drunken idiots around with the inherent risks of having someone puke in your car, become abusive, stab you, try to do a runner or at the very least act like a tw*t? Tw*t.

For the record I'm not working, I doubt the pub will be open much past 10oclock either

Denzil Posted 30 December, 2008 Share Posted 30 December, 2008 NYE is definately over rated, however, I'm still going to go down The Tav and annoy the bar staff and get stupidly drunk. And if I'm still standing at 6am I will be given a complimentry free breakfast, just in time for the cheaper taxi fares to kick in. I might even give Essruu a shout. Ponty Posted 30 December, 2008 Share Posted 30 December, 2008 How come all the pubs that started charging an entry fee on NYE 1999 still charge entry fees? I'm sure we never had them before on NYE.
