JPT Final

Talking to a Bristol City supporter today who was rightly proud of taking 40,000 fans to Wembley for this years JPT final

Walsall also did well to drum up 30,000 fans in a 72,000 crowd

However it appears that our game v Carlisle still holds the record of 73,476

The JPT website say that we took a record 44,000 that year but, according to info from Wembley Stadium, there were 52,000 in the Saints and corporate sections plus just under 19,000 from Carlisle (and hats off to them for a long journey at difficult time of the day) and the rest were Johnstone Paint corporate tickets etc

We also hold the second highest qualifying attendance (29,900 SF v MK Dons) after Coventry, who sold their tickets at £5 a pop

Sadly not the record for this competition, attendances above 70,000:

- 80,841 Wolves v Burnley - 1988

- 76,663 Birmingham v Carlisle - 1995

- 75,057 Stoke v Bristol City - 2000

- 73,476 Saints v Carlisle - 2010

- 72,315 Bristol City v Walsall - 2015

Presume you are taking figures from the Football League Final not the JPT Final which has only been running for 9 years

So under the JPT banner our game v Carlisle remains the highest attendance

I'm sorry what? It has been in the football league trophy (insert appropriate sponsor) since 1992.... before that it was the associate members cup back until 1983/84.

I'm not passing comment on how long its been called the JPT, but the competition existed long before that. That or I am horribly wrong and the carling cup is a very recent competition only :p

Apologies if I come across as being pedantic on this, perhaps I am, but have taken my information from the Johnstone Paint Trophy website

Of course you are correct to point out reference to other matches in this lower league cup competition.

I was being specific to the JPT which has been awarded for nine seasons

I'm going to start only counting Premier League records since Barclays began sponsoring it. That'll confuse a load of people and create a ridiculous history break where there is none...

We could have sold so many more that day. Knew loads of people (part timers obviously) who couldn't get tickets. Also many older fans who don't go anymore who'd have liked to go.

Great competition.

When you look at the stadium config it's bonkers. Carlisle fans in the top tier behind the goal with 2 or 3 empty blocks either side for segregation, yet Saints fans taking up 2/3rds of the middle tier including areas in between Carlisle fans down the side, and Saints fans on the whole of the bottom 2 tiers on the opposite side.

There were at least 4 completely empty blocks they could have used if they'd sorted the allocations out a bit sooner. Though I guess they have to have a range of prices and had to sell halfway line tickets to Carlisle, they could have limited it to one tier along the side at first... probably wouldn't resolve the gaps behind the goal though.
