Oh dear. To not even finish in the top 7 was unthinkable just a few weeks ago. Massive, massive game now on Saturday. We may well need a result at City as well. Absolutely gutted right now. Hopefully Man City will do a job on sunday

Posted

Think we have screwed this up good and proper. Fair play to gary monk and swansea who have done so well without bony. But they have a quaility striker who's been sat on the bench and comes on and scores tonight.

Posted
So much for dismissing Swansea and their run-in

Suddenly we're not so special anymore.

Serious chance of finishing 8th... But wait it's okay because we've broke our reckon points haul... by one.

Swansea look a better, more balanced side than us, I'm afraid. Class keeper too

Players aren't playing like they are all too fussed about playing in the Europa League next season. Lucky for them it looks like Swansea are ready to save them the hassle.

Well this end of season looks like it is going to be embarrassing if we collapse out of top 7. Hopefully this result will give the players a kick up the proverbial behind for game against villa.

I can't see it happening. The defence isn't suddenly going to have confidence in which ever Keeper we play, if Morgan plays doubt he'll make much of an impact being half injured. Clyne can't be arsed now as he's going. Davis is out if sorts, and Pelle just doesn't move. Not to mention how well Benteke is playing right now too.

Just said on the radio that Monk is probably going to be regarded as "best of the rest" in managerial terms. Would have shown to have that little bit more in his locker than Koeman

Posted
Gutted about tonight's result but we only have ourselves to blame. It's never straight forward with saints is it :(

This. Wouldn't want it any other way! It has always been a roller coaster ride with saints.

Swansea just have that little extra bit of quality that we lack going forward. Even so, we've been clear of them for months and it should never have come to this. So nervous for the Villa game now.

Whilst I feel confident that Man City will get the job done and win tomorrow and we will finish 7th, I can't help but feel that Villa have a better chance in the Cup Final than many are giving them.

There is no doubt on paper that Arsenal should win, but Villa have given Arsenal problems down the years and Arsenal haven't always played well at Wembley.

Touch and go, I reckon.

A bit worried still that Villa could ruin our season. Hopefully Man City can grab a point today. All to play for next week though; us, Spurs and Liverpool all have tough games. It's insane to think we can still nick fifth place

I think city will win today. They looked bang on last week

Anything other than a Swansea win and we have 1 foot in the Europa League

That's the foot in, then.

I don't know if this has been covered elsewhere, but is there a chance that we might qualify for Europe via the Fair Play League, even if Villa win the FA Cup?

Was on the FAPL website and the way they calculate points for qualification includes 'continuing to attack even when in a winning position' under 'Positive Play'. We did that yesterday!

3 places are available: assume for this illustration that Liverpool & Man City qualify via PL. West Ham seem obvious 1st choice. Everton & Burnley next 2, but we're not far behind.

This weekend's points not included yet.

Looking at the table we really need to finish fifth for the integrity of the goal difference rankings. We're pi ss ing all over Liverpool and Spurs on that front. Justice needs to be served on Sunday to give the table a sensible and satisfactory goal difference vs points pattern. Otherwise, frankly, it's chaos.

Posted

So desperately want Spurs to finish 7th. Think how torn they'll feel needing Arsenal to win to qualify for Europe.

They won't care. Every Spurs fan I know is sick of the Europa League

Crikey just realised that even if we finish 7th and Arsenal win the cup we'd have to get through 2 lots of 2 legged ties to even get to the group stages. We could really do with a good result next weekend

Three Fair Play places are available across UEFA, England has one of those. One place is available. West Ham are literally going through the motions and may well end up getting it by default... assuming Liverpool don't. :D

You've JUST realised this? I've booked the draw date and the 3rd and Play Off round dates off work. Should be fine though, the list of clubs we could face at that stage is pretty mediocre so far.

Of course if we finish 6th, we're guaranteed at least going into the 3rd Qualfying Round and Arsenal winning the FA Cup is actually worth winning two rounds of Europa League qualifiers for Saints.

As a side note this is the last season Fair Play will qualify for Europa. Next season there will be financial incentives for Fair Play.

Can you provide a link for this information? thank you.

Ah. My understanding was that the PL would get 3 places. Didn't realise the 3 were across Europe.

We'll just have to beat Man City, then!

Team that qualifies via Fair Play plays their first Qualification on July 9th.

Team that qualfies via the lowest qualifying spot in the league plays their 3rd Qualification Round match on the 30th July

Team that qualifies via the 2nd lowest league spot plays a play off on the 20th August.

If Villa win the cup, their first match would be in the group stages on 17th sept. If Arsenal win the FA Cup the 5th place teams first game is this day.

Irrespective of who wins the Cup, Spurs are going straight into the Group stage. Liverpool will join them if Arsenal win next week. No one starts in the play off round on 20th Aug. That is the 29 winners of the 3rd qualifying round and 15 losers of the Champions League 3rd qualifying round.

if arsenal win the cup

how many qualifiers will we have to play to get a spot in the groups?

Potentially two ties.

One 2 legged third round qualifier, which is at the end of July, and if we get through that then another 2 legged play off (Mid-august) to see who gets into the Group stages. The 2 legged play off is contested against the winners from the third round and the teams kicked out of the CL qualifiers.
