The Recall Boruc Thread

I think we should play Gazzaniga. If we give him experience now, he might be a half decent keeper when he's 35. :-)

As good as Boruc is, I'm not sure he'd want to return. He's probably quite enjoying himself at Bompey.

I doubt we can recall him anyway. Let's hope the Fraser injury is minor and he can be back in a few weeks at worst.

I suppose we won't know how bad until Monday.

If FF is out for several weeks and it's doable Boruc has to return for the run in.

The January window debacle with so many Saints fans pointing out the obvious need for striking and goalkeeping cover was always going to lead to this drama! Self abuse...

We can't recall AB from his loan but that display from KD would have given him a great deal of confidence and you could see how much it ment to the players by the way they went up to him at the end of the game.

Saves yes but still showed the areas that will cost us at some point. No point hiding from that. Distribution was poor and nearly got tackled a couple of times because he was too slow.

He has never been a successful PL keeper and isnt likely to have improved in a year without playing.

Great saves today though! But big blow to lose Forster.

Gazzanigas looked pretty solid in the U21 games I've seen on the you tube channel,

he's also gained a couple of seasons experience since his antics when we first came back to the prem.

So why not stick with the old head of Kelv and reward his loyalty and keep Gazzaniga as his reserve (just keep someone on the near post at all times on the corners.) :D

Kelvin actually played really well, we'd all be praising Forster for making those saves. Bit dodgy when the ball is passed back to him, we need to try and cut that out. We certainly need a half decent back up keeper for next season though, there will be a lot of games with the europa league as well

new goalkeeping coaching regime since the beginning of the season, and Davis looked exceptional today, (especially seeing it was his first competitive minutes in a LONG time)

there didn't look like any need to panic.

He's always been an excellent reaction stopper but wait till the near post shots start sneaking in

In fairness the current saints defence are far better than anything Kelvin has played behind before. Our current outfield defence has the lowest shots against of any defence in the PL which should give Kelvin some protection.

Begovic or Guzan wouldn't sign to sit on the bench.

Delends how long Forster is out for. If it's long term, we're going to need to look for a keeper good enough as first choice. My guess would be an ageing keeper that is still good enough but wouldn't possess a long contract.

Cant see that Kelvin is a huge downgrade on Forster tbh, forster is better but not by as much as you'd think

You are wrong... very wrong. There is a large gulf in quality.

Davis wouldn't be first choice keeper for any current Premier League side, he is Championship level in quality. A great servant to the club and was outstanding during our rise to the Premier League, but he is out of his depth at this level.

We will see now as we don't have any other options, he is certainly leagues ahead of gazzaniga even at his age

How many PL clubs have back up keepers who would be first choice at another PL club? couple of the big boys I'd guess. Back up keepers are by default not as good as the 1st choice but Kelvin is still a decent keeper at least he isn't scared to come off his line like Forster seems to be.
