IMO, we need to give Slattery a taste of first team football ASAP, if only on the bench. He (or rather his parents/advisers) need to see tangible evidence that there is an advantage staying with Saints, i.e. that he stands a far better chance of first team football with us than he does with the likes of Arsenal. Yep, I know he's already being fast-tracked but I'd give him a go in one of the last few games (once our highest possible league position is set in stone)

I would suggest that there is a whole stack of evidence already in place for them in regards to our credentials of developing, and giving chances to, younger players. We have serious precedent as a club and the first team is making positive strides in the right direction.

If he/his advisers cannot see the advantages of staying here it would be because they simply don't want to or have other ideas about what is important for the lad ...

A fool if he goes to Arsenal before playing a season or 2 in the first team here. He won't play first team football till 2020

Mainly due to a crippling recurring injury?

Who is Slattery and where does he play? If he's good enough, why's he not been on the bench yet? How come Gape etc. have all appeared in the first team before he has?

Genuine questions.

He is a central midfielder and is still a schoolboy, playing for the under 16's (with a few appearances for the under 18's), where as Gape is 20 years old.

Slattery retweeted an article tonight saying Arsenal want him.

He then deleted it.

Another that isnt the brightest by the looks of things. Seems like his family live in Oxfordshire and he is always going back there so no real tie to the area.

I think that'd be a mistake and have the opposite affect.

Slattery to Arsenal? They'll be tapping up pregnant Hampshire mothers next.

Generic mum: "Oh honey, feel this, the baby's kicking!"

Wenger: "I'll give him £80,000 a week."

He'd be a fool to go to Arsenal now.

Edit: And judging by his twitter, he's a fool with an ego.

He is 16, all 16 year olds are idiotic. I was idiotic, my siblings were idiotic I'd wager you were idiotic as well.

What's your excuse now you are no longer 16?

Looks like we're keeping players on till mid 20s to see if they develop. Always used to be done like this, only been since the 2000s that players have been written off by 18/19.

Mason a good example of someone being given a chance later on. He is 23 I think.
