EBS1980 Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 signed a new 2 yr contract. Odd one at first glance, would have thought he would have been let go considering he hasn't really made any impact on the 1st team this season.

SuperSAINT Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 After he scored last night I was wondering if he'd sign a new one, or leave at the end of this season. If I remember correctly, the last 2 summers, he's only signed a year deal.

Lighthouse Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 Tadic obviously off to Liverpool in summer. Been tapped up by Gerrard at the World Cup or something.
Patrick Bateman Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 He's a good player to have in the squad. I would have said the same about Cork but obviously he wanted to be more a first 11 player, so it's good we've got players around who are happy to be part of a squad with the odd appearance here and there. WealdSaint Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 He took his goal quite nicely for U21 last night. A useful squad player if we have EUFA Cup football next season?

Smirking_Saint Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 I saw something in him last seasons pre season. And at the time I was hearing good things about him from the training ground. He never replicated that same explosiveness and directness that I admired. Perhaps he has shown enough in training ?
Clunge Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 Can't ever see him making the grade at Saints. He has pace but thats all really, wish him luck but if your your brutally honest he's stealing a living at Saints.
sussexsaint Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 I like him, only seen him play in the friendly at Brighton but he ran all day long and looked hungry as hell. Very raw but has something about him, I thought. Mind you , I'm crap at predicting these things. Leandre Griffit was my last 'next big thing'
eelpie Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 (edited) Need a squad...guess that's the thought. And he is developing and will almost certainly command a good sell on fee with this contract extension, even if it is a short one. stpedro Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 Agree with comments about him being a squad player only and benefit of him being a UK resident. Bluntly, if he was good enough (at the moment) there would not have been the need to bring in Elia and Djuricic as loans this year. Perhaps the club see him as having the potential to get stronger/quicker/more confident in the next two years, and will not sign either of Elia /Djuricic following the end of their loan deals when they run out
Andy Durman Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 I think players like Isgrove Have an important role in training and as squad depth. He is very quick and would test any wing back we have with his speed. Has made a few good appearances for the first team this season. Shame about his injury. Gallagher looks like he's nearing a return to the first team squad.

Saint Charlie Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 Both the last two seasons he has had a good pre season and then completely faded away. He obviously has something going for him and impressed me in the Bmth and Brighton friendlies but I am a little suprised we are keeping him. Hopefully he can make an impact next year. davefizzy14 Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 Good News. Hopefully he can push on & force his way in the first team squad. The club obviously can see he's got potential. Well done Lloyd.
Saint Charlie Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 Has made a few good appearances for the first team this season. Shame about his injury. 3 cameo sub apps and one Cup start ending after 29mins. Hasn't featured in a league game since August. Pretty minimal. He was only just breaking into the squad, now people see him as the Pelle replacement etc..
Sour Mash Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 Strange move from the club. I don't rate him, there already appears to be better players coming through from the academy anyway.
S-Clarke Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 At 22 you'd have hoped he'd have made more of an impact by now. Reed, JWP, Targett are all younger and they've all made more of a first team impact. Maybe they just feel he's still got a bit of developing to do as he's a bit of a slow starter, it seems as if we're giving him as big as chance as possible. Not quite sure I see it happening for him though. Similar to Reeves, he just seems a tad too old to make it here now.
david in sweden Posted 17 March, 2015 Share Posted 17 March, 2015 He's basically a fast left-sided winger with a real change of pace. He has been hampered by a nad injury , and is still ..on the way back. His age (22) is irrelevent at present, if he's still here as an overage U21 in two years time, it'll be sad, but with a transfer to a lower league club we might re-coup a fee. In the short term ..at best, he will be a good sub. in case of injury to Mane / Elia ....otherwise a Championship/L1 loan-out might improve his game. dronskisaint Posted 18 March, 2015 Share Posted 18 March, 2015 He's looked good in the live and youtube games I've seen him play...fast and tricky. He's had a few injuries that probably explain the short contracts but I saw him at Kettering a few years back before his injuries and he was the best player on the pitch by some distance. Mind you - I also thought Griffit and Yoann Folly were Saints' future a few seasons back!

Redslo Posted 18 March, 2015 Share Posted 18 March, 2015 He and Schneiderlin are our only club trained home grown players for European competition purposes. He was going to be resigned unless he was literally worse than nothing because he will not take up a European roster spot that we could fill with anyone else. As it is our European Roster will have only 23 players--22 if Schneiderlin goes. Plus the under 21s of course. I discussed this in my blog at the end of January. http://redsloscf.blogspot.com/2015/01/southamptons-european-roster-issues.html
